As posted on the forums, I've tested this out and am currently playing Metal Gear Solid on my PSP. Key mapping still needs some work but this opens up a huge library of games to the PSP.
this single PS3-PSP feature will sell a lot more PS3s and PSPs
I know! I am the thread creator over at the Playsation Boards (StalkingSilence). They don't normally approve forum posts here, but this is BREAKING NEWS! No gaming sites have picked this up yet! If they want a different link, here is the digg story: http://digg.com/playstation...
I very much doubt this will sell systems TANOD, but still pretty sweet.

Lets see the DS do this -- Not. The PSP/PS3 is the $hit. Now I can play FFIV, MGS from anywhere.
I can play final fantasy vii on psp!
LOL who is going to change your cd at home
I thought this was already possible on a modded psp
It is...that's why I'm not as excited as other people are, but this is really cool if someone wants to play PS1 games on their updated PSP as well in case they upgraded too much. I wonder if they'll make PS2 games functional on the PSP as well. *starts drooling*
That would be nice to play God of war 2 on the psp... If they did make ps2 games play on the psp.
Hell yeah, that would be amazing in Remote Play. The more I think about it, the more I wish the PSP put a right thumbstick on the buttons side...I'd love to be able to fully play Okami as well.
playin ff7 as we type in these fourms. will be playin @ work 2nite as well. ha ha ha
Hey guys, while I maintain this thread over at the playstation forums, credit should go to first-time poster Raynmapym who clued me in to the new remote play feature. Why does Sony keep the big updates on the DL?
ww[dkfsdldl; that's all I can say right now lol PSP is the Best handheld ever.
KABOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!! another reason why the PSP+PS3 is superior!!1
I think Sony just gave us a really nice Christmas present. Thanks! I've always wondered what it would be like to play PS1 games on my PSP. I'm wondering if I should finish Star Ocean: The Second Story on my PSP or not. We'll see. I know I will be taking advantage of this feature a lot. This is really exciting news. I need to get home so I can download this. FFVIII in the palm of my hand. Dream come true confirmed! By the way, I added the Digg article as an alternative source. So, it is taken care of Stalking Silence. Plus, you seem like a pretty honest person, and have gone out of your way to make a very nice detailed thread on Remote Play. I appreciate it. Thanks. Other gamers are confirming the update as well. So as far as I'm concerned, this story equals truth. On a side note, TANOD add your avatar you use from NeoGAF. I like to see familiar faces. :)
Wow that is a pretty sweet feature...I'm starting to get an itch for a PSP, and now with GOW right around the corner for it...
What if the game uses all 8 game buttons??
the nub is what sony use to combine 1 or two buttons lawlz.
But a 1 disc ps1 game is fine. multiple disc? eww. I mean. who is going to magically swap it out for me?
How many PS1 games do you remember using 4 triggers?
You can change your control scheme from the PSP by pressing the home button and edit your settings. It's called "Assign buttons" and you can make SELECT+R = R2 or some other combos. Like others mentioned, you can use the nub in a certain direction to simulate the shoulder buttons. The only thing I don't think you can do is simulate the R3 or L3 buttons.
This is excellent news - I have been pondering getting a PSP since the remote start was introduced and now that I can play PS1 games like final fantasy, gran turismo & MGS on my psp and ........... view whats happening in my house from anywhere in the world by viewing my PS3 Eye from my PSP - now that is cool!!!! Off to the shops now - bye.........
yes !! and it started with Playstation 3!!!!
(possible two that fold out?) and a second analog nub, otherwise Remote Playing our PS2 titles is going to be a pain. But damn, this is just amazing. Yet another trump card that Sony's taken advantage of. You can't even attempt this with a DS, let alone any other console on the market. I'll try out Remote Play again later today. =]
If so every PS3/PSP owner is buying the new PSP when it comes out.
Awesome..i can play my ps1 games around the world with my psp !! Dont forget you need a ps3 to do it!! I know for sure this will sell a lot of psp and ps3 to the people who is really interested in the awesome feature..everyone keep spreading this news around and let people now about it..
this is sweet, too bad I don't think I have anymore PS1 games anymore. They may be hidden in some old boxes of mine. I'll have to find some and try it out.
incorrect comment. I've removed it. apologies.
There is no way to spin this bad for playstation. As an owner of both I can now really look forward to buying up a few of those PS1 gems to enjoy on the go. Kudos to those who discovered this! Does it work for Playstation 2 disc games also?
Well copy it and then lock it for that ps3? [probably would add more time which they don't want to do lawlz] Unless they have a solution for multiple disc games in the future.
This has me pretty excited. What exactly do you need to do this? Just insert a PS1 disc in your PS3 and use the remote feature to play the game on your PSP? This can be done over a home network or anywhere you have your PSP online? I would love to play some of my old school PS games on my PSP. The only thing that would make this better is if you could download your PS games on to your PS3's HDD for easy remote access. -Death
All your questions you answer yourself, you can do everything that you stated. Except the download to HDD (would rock though), would make piracy a little to easy.
Now, someone explain why Sony doesn't shout this news from the rooftops in time for Christmas?
But i use the popsloader ;)
I uploaded a video a little while ago.
Once you are playing the PSone game on the PSP through remote play, do you have to stay "online" with your PSP? Once you disconnect from your network, would you essentially lose the ability to play the game? So in other words, its only available for play on the same network that the PS3 is connected to. In turn, it's only playable in my house. Am I getting this straight?
You do have to stay online with both your PSP and PS3, but what you might be missing is that you can be online from anywhere with your PSP. So wherever you have WiFi, you can turn your PS3 on from standby and access a PS1 disc.
Lets say for example. I start up remote play on my PS3 from home which would then be connected through my home network via wi-fi. I then get to work and connect my PSP through my wireless access point at work. Since both the PS3 and PSP are connected to some sort of network, would I be able to use "remote play" from work? Even though the PS3 and PSP are on two seperate networks? Also, you are saying that I can literally "turn on" my PS3 via my PSP via any wireless network that I connect my PSP to? Thanks for the info!
Since both the PS3 and PSP are connected to some sort of network, would I be able to use "remote play" from work? Even though the PS3 and PSP are on two seperate networks? >>>>> YES! Also, you are saying that I can literally "turn on" my PS3 via my PSP via any wireless network that I connect my PSP to? >>>>> YES!
That's pretty cool! I had no idea that something like this was possible. Too bad I don't have a PS3 as of yet but once I do, I will easily get the most out of this service. Bubbles for the both of you! Thanks for the info!
Great job Sony.
Im playing Battle Arena Toshiden with no problems on the PSP via the PS3 Remote play. Sony please make a new PSP with r1 r2 + l1 l2 and two thumb sticks so I can play Killzone 2, MGS4, and GTA IV on the PSP when they come out.
My PSP has been collecting dust for a while now. (My son dropped it and the UMD drive doesn't work anymore). But now I think I will charge it up and have a go at RE and GT1. Great find everyone. By the way, where are all the Xbots? I think this is the first thread I have read on here about the PS3 where the Xbots haven't made one comment. I'm sure they're plotting something.
give them time. Like most parisitic organisms, the minute the defenses drop slightly, they'll descend and attemp to devour everything they come in contact with...
Dang sony you are on a roll...this update trumps the Microsoft Xbox 360 Fall update...
i've yet to try any remote play features between my ps3 and psp - for some reason i cant get my ps3 accessible externally, even when i stick it in a dmz. I'm such a n00b! :O)
