Sony Nixing Vita's UMD Support: The Best And Worst Decision

Chris Buffa (Modojo): A few prospective Vita owners have a new bone to pick with Sony. The Japanese company originally flirted with the idea of letting North American PSP users transfer their UMD games to the sexy new handheld.

You are using too much common sense mate. i would have rather sony continue with the same negative aspects that hindered the psps success with the ps vita. being able to remove the battery so people can hack the system and copy games for free and hurt devs sales so less devs will want to develop for it. they also should have had only one analog with the old psp screen. they also should have had a umd port so as to make the system twice as big and heavier contributing to drainage of battery.

Dang Jean D Arc isn't digital yet huh? That game was the best on PSP for me, I hope I can get it again on Vita.

I can't say for other regions but I know in NA it has been available on the PSN for quite a long time.

Soldierone2020d ago

It isn't on the list of games the playstation blog just released though. Hopefully its just a missed game.

I have heard from some Vita users that they have been able to play it so you are likely in luck!

Baaawww my new hardware doesn't play software of a different type of physical medium a piece of hardware I already have designed for that medium does.

I'm glad, I hated UMDs. The things were way too fragile and got dirty all too quickly. And I'm a person that's very careful with my belongings.

Same here, the top cover of the disc would always press in and mess up the disc. And if the disc itself got dusty or a finger print, it was a pain to clean. I had UMD towers and cases and everything, and this still happened and I didn't understand it.

I didn't hate UMD's, just glad they are gone. Taking care of a chip will be a lot easier than those. Let alone I won't have to carry a suitcase around just to have a few extra games with me.
