Xbox 720, PS4 are a gamer's dream, but a developer's nightmare

GameZone's Matt Liebl writes, "From a gamer standpoint, everyone wants Microsoft or Sony to announce a new console. Whether it be an Xbox 720, or PS4, actual gamers are ready. Now developers on the other hand, aren't quite so eager for the switch. Depending on who you ask, there's always a different answer. Some say there's more left to squeeze out of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, others say it's time for a new console."

Yeah I'm content with what I have now. I think its stupoid people demand more right now

I don't demand more right now, but I look forward to more in the future. It's a good time to be a gamer.

I’ll take gameplay over graphics, but if you look at a 360 game and the same game on PC side-by-side, I don’t think it’s stupid to demand the 7 year old hardware to be upgraded. The graphics gap is easily big enough to merit an upgrade.

I would say these are just excuses about next gen development being expensive. If anything is expensive these days its the marketing and the advertisement which in the end adds on to the cost.

Considering the rumors of the next gen consoles i would think they would be able to play a game like Crysis at medium to high settings at 1080p. Hence if a game like Crysis can be considered next gen. Then i dont think development of such a game is too costly as Crysis only cost about 24million usd to produce. Lolvision spends 8 times that amount just marketing their latest release. Hence i dont think development cost is much of a issue. Its just excuses to make fans think that cost is the reason why new consoles are being delayed.

In truth the reason why next consoles are being delayed is because MS and Sony have barely profitted this gen, hence would like to make some money before getting into another loss making gen.

The only reasons I want new consoles isn't for more dense visuals but more for stable visuals. I want games that run at my TV's native 1080p, at a solid 30/60 frames per second, with no screen-tearing, texture pop-in, poor field-of-view, or other annoying limitations.

Maybe I should just buy a PC...

Adapt or Die.

Well it's not that serious, but you can catch my drift ;)

I hope most devs adapt. A good variety of games is always better than the same thing over and over.

I suppose it depends on the devs....

Some may dread having to learn how to develop on a new system while others may be eager to rise to the challenge and enjoy the new power that enables them to do better things!
