ClickOnline.com - Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

ClickOnline.com writes: "The Metal Gear series is something of a divisive beast. Even in the Click offices alone there are some who love it, some who hate it, and some who remain completely and utterly indifferent to the whole thing. With this in mind, it can be quite tricky to compile a review of a collection like is on offer here without letting one’s prior opinions of the series get in the way."

I'm playing through the collection at the moment, and so far I'd have to say that despite it being a game I loved when it was originally released MGS2 hasn't aged well. At the moment playing it feels more like a chore thanks to clumsy feeling controls and awkward moments. And damn, those bloody camera angles are terrible :D

Here's hoping I find MGS3 has aged a little better.

But then, that's the problem when old games get re-released: it all comes down to whether the gameplay is still fun even in todays market.

Eh, I go back and replay MGS1 every once in a while, if you can do that you'll be fine with MGS2 or MGS3 controls no doubt haha.

Yes the controls are clunky when going back, but it only takes a little while to get used to them again.

Aye, once you're used to them again it's ok, but they never feel that great, even when you are.

The point I'm making, really, is that I just don't think MGS2 has aged well. Not ever classic old game does age well, and I'm certainly not taking anything away from the game, but now it just feels.....bad, if I'm going to be honest.

Yeah, I understand what you're getting at. I bought MGS2 for ps2 about a year back since I never actually owned the game. Tried to play it but kept doing stupid things and dying. This coming from someone who beat MGS1 on the hardest difficulty and got every dog tag on 2 when it first came out. XD

I'm loving playing MGS2 right now. I downloaded MGS1 off the psn store like a year ago and beat that in the run-up to the HD collection's release and I'm probably gonna play MGS4 again when I beat the HD collection. Can't get enough metal gear right now. Mind you, rising can go suck it.
