Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Review [Game Revolution]

"Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a restless buffet of fantasy RPGs: a healthy serving of World of Warcraft's graphics, a scoop of Fable III's continuous world, a hearty slab of God of War's combat, a sprinkle of Dragon Age: Origins's loot system, a slice of skills from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and bits and pieces from every other title in the genre."

It really is a fantastic RPG. It's a shame it will likely get overshadowed by ME3 and Skyrim.

Indeed. It has some great designers behind it, though. Salvatore will draw a large audience on his own.

It's good to know such a solid writer is behind the lore, makes me hopeful of future games.

Well at the very least it got my purchase before
FF13-2 did.

I'd never heard of this till like a week ago and now reviews are pouring in. Came out of nowhere.

Part of it is probably how it has this "generic fantasy setting" vibe to it, I think..
I mean, Skyrim has that, too, but somehow was able to get past it. My guess (because this is why it worked on me) was how the setting was very mountainous and snowy.

I mean, I personally don't really know what would make this game worth my time compared to most other fantasy RPGs out there. I'm not sure what it does to differentiate.

Yea..good action RPG combat sets it apart, like the souls series(along with true difficulty, not tedious difficult). Unless you believe Skyrim has good combat

i've sunk about 10 hours into this game and I am definately enjoying the combat system as it is upgraded (at the beginning not so much) - The story has yet to grab my attention but a lot of that might have to do with all the side quests I've been doing. Also saw some comments about the ability to respec ur character to easily and while this is an easy thing to do it does cost gold (which seems to grow as u gain more points) but with all things considered its a solid rent if not a buy for those that have the funds - 8/10 score seems fair IMO
