Halo 3 Purchased by 52% of Xbox 360 Owners in U.S.

Microsoft's Halo 3 is a monster. When it launched back in September, the game sold a whopping 3.3 million units in the U.S. More recently, Microsoft Corporate VP of Global Marketing Jeff Bell, revealed that Bungie's masterpiece had surpassed five million units sold worldwide.

A closer look at the data from The NPD Group through November shows that 4.1 million copies have been sold in the U.S. With 7.9 million Xbox 360s purchased in the U.S. to date, some simple math indicates that an impressive 52 percent of all Xbox 360 owners in America have picked up Halo 3.

That's an incredible attach rate and proof positive of the importance of the Halo brand to Microsoft and its Xbox business. Halo 3 has given Xbox 360 a huge lift in terms of console adoption.

Halo player is a understatement I see no game ever again beating that ratio. The Playstation brand cannot beat that and it seems sad really that many both the game.

Never has their been a more powerful mascot for a console, maybe only Mario in the early Nintendo days rivals it.

I might also add, I don't give a rats ass about Halo. But 360 is still my console of choice because it has all the games now not just Halo. It's a total take over.

Ps3 is my choice as I hate FPS's and online games. I only have a short time to play games a week about 2 hours at most but over Christmas I will get some time.

I have 8 games unplayed and assassins creed in still in its plastic. So a wait is alright with me.

Xbox 360 destined to sell almost entirely to the very same US based Halo playing demographic as the first Xbox.

yet sky its outselling the ps3 in UK, Canada, South america...ect the ps3 is quite literally only outselling in japan, and some of the region of EUROPE and thats it.

When the combined total of sales in all those lil countries in europe doesn't suppass the UK sales then...yeah it means the 360 is the one outselling.

Halo is a better-that-most game. that simple. If it doesnt deserve good sales what does. It deserves more sales. For my one copy of the game theres been at least 6 people who put in 10 or more hours wirth of live multiplayer (excluding me). There are many who love the game that dont have it or even have an xbox. It will continue to see thorough out the life of 360 and there will always be people playing online as so many people have it already. I went online one night a few weeks after launche and there was almost 1.3 or 1.5 million people playing the game online at tht very moment. Crappy games dont even get ahlf that amount of people to buy the game. At least us [email protected] halo3 owners will always have people to play against and live to play on. Do you think developes will continue to pay for theiir own servers for PSN when they loose money making the games and dont sell enough copies? nope. Microsoft will do all that for companies plus good games sell well on 360. soon we may not have to pay as much for live, if at all, as microsof finds new ways to make money of live everyday(tv, games, movie downloads.)

It's actually a pretty amazing feat for a console with that many great games to choose from. Can't wait to see what else they might do.
