Nostalgia Boner: My First Game Ever

"If I could turn baaccckkk timmmmeeee! *ahem* So, let’s set the scene… Flash back eight years or so, young I was given a second-hand PS1 with a copy of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone. You may scoff (how dare you!), but being the book nerd I was (and still am) and having just seen said movie, my hype meter was through the roof."- Darthspud

Quidditch World Cup above the EA Harry Potter series? Are you clowning me, Peeves? That game held up about as well as Nagini did to Neville Longbottom's sword slash in the finale to the series, for me at least. If I had to put it on a certain page, it would be page three-hundred and ninety-four. I would rank it pretty low. So low, in fact, that you could probably gather some gillyweed from it.

The EA Harry Potter series, on the other hand, has held up remarkably well, like the invisibility cloak left to Harry by his father. I haven't played all of them in recent years , but I've played enough to see that those games are about as well done as "p-p-p-poor st-st-stuttering P-professor Quirrel's" performance at Hogwarts.

Strange title for a Harry Potter book.

Hoping for a new Harry Potter game soon that's actually good. Hasn't been one in awhile. Really enjoyed the 2 Lego Harry Potter games though.

SegaGamer2268d ago (Edited 2268d ago )

It doesn't even need to be Harry Potter. Just make a massive game about Hogwarts and you play as kid that has to work his or her way up through the years. If done right, it can be a really great game.

Memorable Music in Gaming #10

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:

This edition of Memorable Music in Gaming pulls from several different sources. A couple tend to be the usual suspects - well-known Nintendo titles for example. A pair of PC games and an arcade selection round things out nicely, however.

Darius (Arcade) - Captain Neo

Darius has always been ahead of its time: at time of release and even now, more than 20 years later. Its philosophical, bigger-than-itself feel and atmosphere is just as relevant as it was back in the day when games were just beginning to incorporate 'heavy' storylines in their pixelated playgrounds. An early example of avant-garde in video games, the original music composed for this game - titled Chaos - may perhaps be the well-remembered, but it's nothing compared to the powerful and hypnotically epic Captain Neo. If you've ever wondered how a Roman soldier would be in audio form, here's your answer!
