v1c1ous3781d ago

it's outselling lair, heavenly sword, rachet and clank, uncharted...

but then again what isnt?

TANOD3781d ago

even in 2 years MS couldnt sell 500k x360s in Japan.

LAIR did 22k first week in Japan and 17k next week .

DW6 on ps3 has outsold any x360 game till date in Japan

Resistance being and FPS has outsold all x360 games in Japan except BD

However LO was MS biggest game for Japan this gen and you have now seen its fate . IT couldnt even sell 100k in Japan not to even mention the 300k projected by some MS moneyhatting analysts

Sony fans: "Great the PS3 is doing well in japan"
Microsoft fans: "Japan doesn't matter."

rinse and repeat.

Microsoft fans: "Great the xbox 360 is doing well in NA"
Sony fans: "NA doesn't matter"

rinse and repeat.

Hey both consoles are doing well where they should be. Well Ps3 vs the Wii in japan is really the real fight over there, with both console having a history of over 30 years, eventho the wii sells well everywhere.

Like I've stated not all is born and met with death in japan like history have showed us over he years. sorry dreamcast.

beoulve3780d ago

I think you got it wrong, Bombomb,

Microsoft Fan: Great XBOX 360 selling well in NA.
Sony Fan: Look at the world sales.

Rinse and repeat,

that's how it is now

Looks like Lost Odyssey didn't do what the 360 fans claimed it would do. 360 is still selling like it was 3 months ago. There's no growth at all in fact it's slightly declining

I don't know what some said but anybody who said LO was going to make the Japanese fall in love with the 360 is a fool, NO but it sold well even if it was only short-lived it helps the 360, but to be honest it seems there are very very few games other than DS or Wii games that stay on at the top of the Japanese charts for more than a week, this is Japan remember?? and I won't criticize their taste in gaming but they ONLY trend I've seen is that they like Wii and *DS games especially, seriously the ONLY games I ever see consistently on the Japanese charts every week is DS games, this has happened plenty with ps3 games, besides a few exceptions alot of ps3 games have either debuted with dissapointing first week sales or fallen off the charts very quickly.

Japan has always been culturally sensitive when it comes to the videogame industry, things are slowly changing even in Japan, but its a slow process but like I've been saying for months now; micro cannot and does not NEED to do "win" in Japan, their success will be ultimately judged compared to last gen and they have nowhere to go but up(lmfao) so in terms of sales its obvious they have done better than last gen, but the critical factor of micro's worldwide success for the 360 depends on their ability to keep getting Japanese dev support, higher sales would no doubt be a welcome sight but as you can see with micro STILL outselling ps3 worldwide its NOT a necessity.

btw, there have been some recent comments by long time Japanese devs who recognize that Japanese devs/games are in some aspects falling behind their western counterparts, the latest being one of the Silent Hill devs,

Akira Yamaoka who said:

"There are of course advantages and disadvantages, but overall, I'm really impressed with the American staff and their technology,"

"I look at what American developers are doing and I think wow... Japan is in trouble,"

uhhh guess you aren't up on the numbers, ps3 is outselling the 360 for the past couple of weeks.. if you care about that sort of thing.. oh and in november vgcharts overestimated the 360 numbers by 150k and the ps3 numbers by 22k.. in america, and including canada, vgcharts overestimated the 360 numbers by more than 200k.. and the ps3 by 77k.. you know.. if you care about those things.

JokesOnYou3780d ago (Edited 3780d ago )

No, it is you who are not up on the #'s, and as I said the 360 has outsold ps3 WORLDWIDE according to official NPD #'s (US), Mediacreate(Japan) and Vg chartz (Europe/Others)= if you have some more accurate #'s for Europe then by all means post them, if not vg chartz which estimates high for ps3 is all we have for Europe, therefore 360 actually OUTSOLD PS3 WORLDWIDE for NOV according to the available info, look at the sources and do the math, its actually a little more than stated from this source= NO apology necessary I love to help out sonykids.

SmokeyMcBear3780d ago

ah.. nice forum post.. there.. maybe you didnt READ.. let me quote it for you.... "ps3 is outselling the 360 for the past couple of weeks"... you see that there... WEEKS.. hmm.. reading is good. I just pointed out how wrong vgcharts was for the month of november in the americas. You know it being basically 20% wrong of actual numbers for the 360.. but i digress.. Look at vgcharts for the past couple of weeks, and you will see the trend. Gotta love numbers man.. and the ps3 has NOOOOOO GAMESSS.. haha

Rikitatsu3781d ago

Akira Yamaoka isn't a dev , he is doing the music of Silent Hill series and he doesn't represent Japanese devs at all

JokesOnYou3781d ago (Edited 3781d ago )

but so what?, the guy works in the game dev business, I imagine he made those general comments based on his time working with both Japanese and American dev teams, and therefore he has seen first hand different devs utilizing a variety of game dev techniques and methods, does it make him an expert NO, but he did say after working with the American team he believes they are more advanced, in fact his exact words about the western technical ability was:

"Their graphical and technical ability is amazing. There's a huge leap, actually."

Again I'm not taking his word as gold, this is just one example of Japanese professionals indicating or implying that the western dev community are doing things in some area's where japanese dev's are lacking, its certainly worth a thought when you look at many of the great games available as of late, STILL its a matter of preference, "to each his own", frankly I think western gaming is alot more versatile, but at the same time I love a little old traditional japanese style gaming like Ninja Gaiden, Resident Evil, and I liked Lost Planet too, still although I'm a fan of traditional japanese style games imo japanese games haven't grown much in the last 5, 6 yrs compared to western games.
