EA and G4 TV's Mass Effect 3 Ethics Issue

WorthPlaying writes, "To paraphrase the character of Ricky Ricardo from "I Love Lucy," EA and G4 TV have "some 'splaining to do."

Yesterday morning, EA sent out a press release announcing the voice actors cast for Mass Effect 3. While most of the names are returning actors, there was one new addition that should stand out for anyone in the gaming industry. It was revealed that G4 TV correspondent Jessica Chobot is lending her voice and likeness to the character of Diana Allers, a reporter in Mass Effect 3.

While this is no doubt great news for Chobot, as she's getting a chance to contribute to a top-tier video game from one of her favorite developers, the way the announcement was handled presents a bit of an ethical quandary for both EA and G4 TV."

I really don't see what the big issues is. It's not like she's going to review the game. Even if she does, or doesn't review it, ME3 will still get a 9.5 from G4TV. Yup I'm callng it now!

Ethical quandary ? let's not pretend those are even actual journalists , just hosts from tv show about games .

Nothing against her , but even look at the linked ME3 preview , is that actually journalist work ? Or just something like an infomercial ?

"let's not pretend those are even actual journalists"

I don't know how to say it any better than this

I don't see why a gaming journalist should have to explain herself.

We have mainstream media outlets spewing information that can literally swing about people complain about something that actually matters.

Games are a hobby, I don't think EA/Bioware stocks are going to go up or down based on what G4TV says.

I didn't even know she was on G4TV until all this B.S, I only know her from IGN.

I don't think it matters.

Both G4 and IGN will definitely benefit from some additional insight to the game through Chobot, but to say that either of those outlets will skew their review scores is probably pushing it a little. She doesn't necessarily have a vested interest in how the game does financially, just how her own performance is viewed. I'm sure both outlets will go out of their way to not mention the voice acting at all, just so they don't get bias claims.

Actually i have no doubt at least one of them will have no issue talking about it , or at least giving it a proud nod .

IGN is afterall a place that had no issue reviewing titles they officially sponsored .

They were even the place that would dare gives great scores to PES 2008 , despite evidence of it being crap and badly optimized , while running its ads .

I think you guys are seeking for ethic rules that simply werent there , not at G4 and ign at least

So what? If she's not reviewing it then I don't care. Am I missing something?
