The Capcom Effect: Are People Criticizing The New Resident Evils Too Soon?

GP: "Throughout the years, many gaming companies have been home to major changes. Rare all but abandoned platforming games to make Kinect games, Konami just started pumping out Metal Gear Solid games like nobody's business, and Capcom found a way to release the same games over and over...and over again. This has led to an obvious problem for Capcom in that many of their fans are starting to despise them.

Of course, you're likely going to be angry when you paid full price for Marvel vs Capcom 3, only to be told you bought the wrong copy less than a year later. But now I'm seeing a different trend. Forums and blog posts alike complaining about the impending release of three new Resident Evil games. While this would make sense if it were Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 6-2, and Resident Evil 6-3, this simply isn't the case."

if revelations is anything to go by then we are in for a treat, the game is a fantastic return to form and i hope more people buy it.

IRetrouk2395d ago

have any of those disagrees played revelations?

aCasualGamer2394d ago

I thought Revelations was superb. Considering it's a portable 3DS game, it's an extremely well done game.

I have personally not seen many people who criticize RE6 and i don't get why someone would do so... It goes back to the old horror roots with more dark and classic zombies while at the same time understanding that the fans who loved RE5 really want action packed scenes aswell.

The game gives all types of fans equal amount of affection. No more "bright horror". This is a dark, gritty and brutal horror game.

It's Leon and Chris, damnit! Who could argue with that? I'm pretty sure Capcom will have part of the game where both characters meet and you get to control them both. Leon and Chris co-op mission FTFW!

dedicatedtogamers2395d ago

Have you SEEN CAPCOM's games lately? Most of them have been pretty terrible. The games that aren't so terrible are DLC-raped.

Some people still haven't accepted that RE has gone the action route. The trailer looked phenomenal IMO. I loved the old REs, but I'm happy with the new approach.

We have to remember, this is like a decade after the Raccoon City Incident. The entire world knows about the virus and its effects at this point. Clearly the government will send a big ass team(6 player co-op), as opposed to one or two people to tackle the problem.

Think about it. If YOU struggled to survive the mansion incident and Raccoon City...wouldn't you want as many people as possible watching your back if you were going to step back into this murky world of monsters/zombies etc?

The only two things about the new RE's that should change are:

1) Make ammo harder to find

2) You should be able to move and shoot. There is NO reasonable excuse for this. It's a b.s. way to add more challenge to the game.

BillytheAlien2395d ago

Why should we accept it, were the fans who got RE were it is today and in return Capcom blow us off for the COD "ACTION PACKED, Big explosions and lots and lots of guns" crowd...

LOGICWINS....this is a video game, not real life

We see video games all the time...even films and think to ourselfs why the hell is he/she doing this again. Look at Aliens for example people wonder why Ripley decided to face a bigger alien threat after what she just been through...but at the end of the day it was just a fun film to watch. Same applies here, there is no reason why Capcom would need to go this route, sending someone alone in a zombie infested area could of been done because we aren't going by realitys rules.

Besides I don't think the whole world knows about the virus, the president in RE6 is attacked because he was ABOUT TO GO public with the truth.

They nearly got it right with RE4 all they needed to do was try to make it a little more horror packed but they went over the top in RE5 and it was ruined.

You might be able to move on but there is a lot of us here who aren't and with good reasons. RE started out as a survival horror experience not an action game, if Dead Space can be a horror game this gen then why can't Resident Evil.

I'd be more inclined to agree if Capcom were adding co-op and action for the sake of realism. But they aren't. They just want to appeal to a bigger audience with a more accessible genre. They'd probably add 6-player co-op even if it DIDN'T make sense story-wise.

Yes they have but i expected this. I don't know if it always been like this but the gaming community has turned into a bunch of whiny complainers.

PamPoovey2395d ago

Ahhh guess you must be one of the people who likes the new look of the dmc....

Oh but going by your logic, me and the rest of the franchises fans are all a bunch of whiners who are complaining for nothing /s

-Mika-2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

Yes that basically my logic. You guys always complaining and nitpicking over the littlest of things. You guys judge and hate on a game before it even comes out. For example devil may cry and RE6. You guys are basically selfish individuals that only think about yourselves and don't wanna accept change.

Not everything stays the same. Just like nature, games evolve and try to do new things.

PamPoovey2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

Pffffft...were selfish

Wow....just wow

Yeah were selfish because we don't want a franchise we love get ruined by Capcom /s ......especialy how greedy they've become and how low the quality of their games have been this gen.

Change is when you change something for the better, you take what you have and you improve it while still keeping that core element in place. RE4 was amazing, it's a perfect example of what I'm talking about, they changed it for the better and could of slowly added onto it by what they already had but then lets fastforward to RE5 and look what happened, they changed to much and it turned to crap. Instead of fixing what went wrong with RE5 and listening to the feedback they choose to ignore everything and go for a bigger audience while leaving their old fan base behind. If they had just went back to RE4 this game could of looked amazing....Leon, Ada, horror, zombies, tense queit moments, gritty and dark atmosphere but no they've went with guns, explosions, action and even expanded on the co-op which was one of the main problems people went on about with RE5.

For dmc.....don't even get me started on that, NT have ruined it and everytime they open their mouth they ruin it even more, not before insulting the fans and the old developers.

So no....I don't see how we are all selfish, in fact your the selfish ones for going along with Capcoms little game, if you take a stand and stick to your guns then they'll take notice.

Mika.....have you actually played the old RE games.

cyguration2395d ago

No, you and your kind are complacent money cows.

Me and many other REAL gamers helped put the big publishers where they are today because WE paid money for products that we liked. We continued to support them with OUR money so they could reinvest into the hobby WE helped turn profitable.

Your logic is about as bad as people defending big government spending, it's like you're saying "All you people complaining about jobs, health care, cost of living need to quit whining and just deal with it. They can blow our money anyway they see fit, that's why we pay taxes."

Epic human fail right there.

Simon_Brezhnev2395d ago

They nitpick because their the ones that supported RE and made it survive this far. I'm pretty sure a lot of them wouldn't mind action but they want it more horror based.

Dont give us that crap about the new DMC. So by your logic every sequel/prequel the main character should change everything about him.

D3mons0ul2395d ago

Yeah but even so, they brought it on themselves.

ninjahunter2395d ago

Leons all ugly! That is all

D3mons0ul2395d ago

If they make him young people call him girly and emo, if he's aged people say he's too rugged looking.

This kind of feedback probably makes it difficult to design a character the "right" way.
