GamesEyeView - Mass Effect 3: Better With Kinect?

GEV says: Mass Effect 3 will soon be upon us. Come March, we will be able to witness the thrilling conclusion of Commander Shepard’s trilogy. Within just two games, the series has undergone a wild evolution. Some bad ideas were nixed: the horrendous menu system of the first game. Some risky gambles were made: eliminating the traditional experience system from the first game to make way for gaining levels per mission. Bad ideas were patched with worse ideas: the mostly boring planet exploration of the first game replaced with the completely boring planet scanning of the second. With the release of Mass Effect 3, Bioware is looking to roll out another new feature.

Yelling at your TV.

No, the correct question is "better with voice commands?" Kinect has nothing to do with it. The only reason why the voice commands are Kinect-only has to do with contractual exclusivity between Microsoft and BioWare. There isn't a single special characteristic of Kinect itself that prevents voice commands from also being done with a headset, the Eye camera mic, etc.

The Kinect sensor's microphone array enables the Xbox 360 to conduct acoustic source localization and ambient noise suppression, allowing for things such as headset-free party chat over Xbox Live.

@kmcroc54^^- The PlayStation Eye features a built-in four-capsule[1] microphone array, with which the PlayStation 3 can employ[10] technologies for multi-directional voice location tracking, echo cancellation, and background noise suppression. This allows the peripheral to be used for speech recognition and audio chat in noisy environments without the use of a headset.[1] The PlayStation Eye microphone array operates with each channel processing 16-bit samples at a sampling rate of 48 kilohertz, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 90 decibels.[1]

seems the Playstation camera can also do- "conduct acoustic source localization and ambient noise suppression, allowing for things such as headset-free party chat"

pretty much any current machine can handle me's voice commands .

And no it's not an issue of built software . Sony has built into the PS3, PSP, and PSVita SDKs voice recognition tools and libraries already.

The only real reasons are obvious . It's a business deal , wich i emphase is fine , just like getting exclusive chars on ps3 in a fighting game is fine .

Either that or they wanted to grace the platform that helped ME become popular , another fine reason too .

Except they shouldnt try so hard to fake tech issues .

If the headset is so capable of this then why has no one pushed it forward or even highlite in sales pitch or in ads .
