CVG: Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review

CVG: Final Fantasy XIII had such a one-track mind it was practically a monorail. And because it was a mere shadow of the games that had come before it (minus XI, of course), Square Enix gracefully did what few other developers have been brave enough to do: they held up their hands and admitted their shortcomings.

FF games didnt use to get scores as low as that.

SE plz go back to your roots, concentrate on story and gameplay over graphics

Trolling N4G Final Fantasy XIII / XIII-2 articles isn't really going to get your thoughts across to SE.

I get where you're coming from but you do realise Square Enix will never see your comments here right? I suggest if you feel that strongly about it that you make a petition or send them an email.

All you're doing here is complaning like a child in every FFXIII post.

This 7.7/10 made you hard didn't it Ranma?

Nice review. Really hit the nail on the head.

Well, with respect to gameplay.

But RPGs (and, you know, almost every other genre in the gaming medium since 2005) have a lot more factors that need to be weighed. The main plot, sidequests, game structure, writing quality, voice acting, music, etc., etc. are all very important aspects of the game and this review failed to mention any of them.

Basically, the guy just (very appropriately) pointed out that A) FFXIII's biggest flaw was the passive battle system, and that hasn't been changed in XIII-2, and B) there are a lot of cut-scenes in the game.

Which, to be perfectly honest, won't do much to sway the minds of anyone here.

The general consensus from all the reviews I've seen so far are that the gameplay and graphics are great while the story and soundtrack are...well, flawed. Lower scoring sites seemed to placed more focus on the story(telling) being bad while higher scoring ones seemed to focused on the gameplay improvements.

True enough , but then again , as bonafide hyenas and expected , they are sniffing out for blood and flaws , they wouldnt be usually looking for in other genres and for other games

no_more_heroes2511d ago (Edited 2511d ago )

My biggest issue was that most peoples' reactions just seemed irrational, over-the-top and childish.

It's as if, after a while, it became a competition to see who could bash the game the worst.

I'm not saying they shouldn't complain: they didn't like the game. They have every right to complain. Hell, I didn't like everything about it either (I'm looking at you, Vanille...) but Christ-on-the-cross, people, grow the f*ck up!

"So... many... cutscenes..."

This review is a joke.

FF XIII-2 is a jrpg. Of course it has many cutscenes.

Neckbear2511d ago

Legend of Mana, Crystal Chronicles, SaGa, Crystalis, Pokemon, and many more JRPGs kindly say hi in disgust to your illogical generalization.

wolokowoh2511d ago

Having too many cutscenes is only a flaw if both of the following are true.
A. The story sucks really bad.
B. The cutscenes can not be skipped
If these are true you can complain that there are too many and the story sucks. Without the second one, you can only say the story sucks.

abcd2511d ago (Edited 2511d ago )

You're right but the majoriy of jrpgs of this generation have many cutscenes.

I can't really see why people complain about the cutscenes. I really like games like MGS and FF and other games with a lot of cutscenes.

Outside_ofthe_Box2511d ago (Edited 2511d ago )

MGS is not an RPG though I do like their cut scenes. :)

MGS is in the top 2 gaming franchises ever, in my opinion.
