Following a rough E3 reception and 3DS's launch struggles, Nintendo might be going back to the drawing board.
I think that would be a good idea. Don't see it happening, but I would definitely be on-board with a name change.
i thought the best name for it wud of been the 'Wii HD' SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE
The unfortunate thing with "Wii HD" is it's still confusing. Is it a Wii that does HD or an entirely new console? I think they should go with something a little new. Or if they absolutely have to use the Wii moniker, at least add a subtitle that more than certainly differentiates it from its predecessor.
i think everyone would like a name change but its not gonna happen.
this is the best wiiu news all year. i hate the look and name of the wiiu at the moment. they need to redign the entire thing. the reveal at e3 last year was a disaster. they need to distance wiiu as far as possible from that disaster, or else wiiu will always be remembered in that way
The "disaster" that was the best selling and most profitable console this generation?
The disaster he's referring to was the reveal at e3. If I remember correctly, didn't people groan when they announced the name? He didn't say anything about the wii.
ah yes, looking back you are probably right, my apologies
they should kill the "wii" thing all together.
i found some new pricing info on this vid
How about Nintendo WiiEvolution LOLZ!
-Maybe they will actually call this one the Nintendo Renaissance since it appears that Nintendo is finally getting their act together for decent online... we shall see.
Yeah..the Wii prefix needs to die.
i hope they rename, because PS4 should be called PS4U PLAY STATION FOR YOU.
Wii was already bad but the Wii U feels like an april fools joke. Scrap the wii name.
WiiU sounds fine every1 i told didnt seem to care much on the name but what it does plus the WiiU logo looks modern. They could call it the Nintendo Revolution Nintendo RS (revolutioary system) Nintendo Stream~ Rename 3DS Nintendo-Nitro 3DS is a good name no need to change Nintendo 3DS/RS looks good RS revolutionary system logo RS looks good next to 3DS/RS and RS is what Revolution was to be called on the actual console bk in 2006.
I think that they should keep the Wii U name for the following reasons: 1. It plays Wii games 2. You can use Wii controllers 3. Anyone on the planet can pronounce and remember the name WiiU (whether they want to or not). I am so tired of the lame "people will get confused argument". Why cater to someone that is too stupid/lazy to do 5 minutes of research before they shell out hundreds of dollars on a console. That makes no sense to me. And why distance yourself from a successful product brand name, that's foolish.
In all fairness, the Wii could play GCN games (just as the DS could play GBA games), but that didn't mean they necessarily needed the original monikers. Another issue is that they're marketing toward a core audience this time and the Wii may drive those gamers away. We've seen the ignorance of this console's potential all over the internet. Nintendo needs to make this appealing and more importantly they need it to sell. The Wii name isn't selling much anymore, if at all. I would be wise to either retool it or abandon it altogether.
Good points all around. However... 1. I loved the Gamecube... but imo it was far from a success (from a sales standpoint), so I can understand discontinuing that brand name. 2. Not all versions of the DS could play GBA games (DSi and DSXL). 3. Imo "hardcore gamers" care about... "hardcore games", and not too much else. Nintendo could name their console "The Virgin's Best Friend" and I would buy it... as long as the blockbuster 1rst and 3rd party games were available (a rose by any other name... etc.).
