Strange Xbox signal suspected of jamming wireless LANs

Microsoft's popular Xbox 360 game console can create a strong and strange signal on wireless LANs, according to IT staff at Morrisville State College.

It's not clear whether the signal disrupts the college's WLAN access points or students' wireless notebooks. There is some anecdotal evidence, however, that it at least affects other radios in the same 2.4GHz band.

So now RROD goes wireless?!...........don't shoot, I'm just kidding!

LOL, I was thinking. Is there anything this BEAST can't kill. I won't be surprised when the final report comes out on this thing in 10 years or so that it caused unsafe levels of something.

I hope MS is training their QC monkeys better for the next round.

Seriously though with the controllers operating on the same 2.4Ghz signal it "may" cause interference to other devices operating on that same frequency.

i actually believe this ...my 360 is under my wireless router and everyday i lose connection, and when i say lose connection i mean everyone connected to the router wirelessly except for my 360 which is lan and I have to reset it atleast 2-3 times a day...and it only happens when i use my 360 ...if this is true then i think i'm gonna have to move it..but i;ll do it anyway just to test it out!

No problems here. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Why do I get the idea Sony is behind this crap, first we read about the Wii emitting a signal that attracts roaches now 360 screws with wifi connections? rrriiight, and this is discovered on both consoles at the same time, just before Christmas, nice try Sony, you should be ashamed.

My 360 is inches from my router and my signal is excellent.

I'm sure every student on that campus has a wireless phone, PDA, blackberry, etc. that their bluetooth headsets may be interfering with. Do you blame all those other devices? No. Blame 360. I guess even if your going to college, it does not mean that your very smart.

ravinash3539d ago

thats probably why the teachers are blaming the console.

the only device you listed that even operates in the same frequency band are bluetooth devices and they are very short range.

If Nintendo roaches "news" got approved this need to be approved too.

It already does, see Sony fanboys.

2/3 console signals have powers that are from UT3. Wait, wasn't the PS3 used to drive a car? That makes 3/3
