With Half-Life 2: Episode Three planned to be the grand finale' of the Half-Life 2 story arc, you may be forgiven for wondering what's next in the parade of constant interruptions for the long suffering Gordon Freeman.
There will also be a Half-Life 2: Episode Four as well.
Are you being sarcastic or serious? Where did you hear there would be a fourth episode?
As much as I love Half-Life I wish they would just let it die gracefully. Great series are always ruined when the developers try to extend them beyond their lifetime. Obviously there's a lot of money to be made off the Half-Life name. I just hope they can come up with a good reason, story wise, why the next game needs to be made.
HL 2 had raised the bar like HL 1. I'm sure the lads from Valve can pull it off again with HL3.
The episodes weren't such a good idea imo. I always felt they needed to move on to HL3 even though EP1 and EP2 still turned out to be pretty damn solid.
That said, I seem to recall Valve stating that making a HL3 would cost too much development time, so that's why they changed the focus to delevoping episodes instead. I wonder what changed their minds on this now.
I certainly hope so. There are obviously cases where a game has had numerous sequels without starting to suck. Metroid comes to mind off the top of my head. It's just that more often than not when a dev forces an unnecessary sequel it sucks. I guess my point was Half-Life 1 & 2 were so well received it could just tarnish the series' good name if the third one sucks. Even if the third one is just average. Anyway, with any luck it will be awesome and all my fears will be allayed.
But the reason I think Valve won't fail is because they will completely overhaul/delay/whatever this game to make sure it's something special.
Valve are one of the few developers that really want to deliver something fresh and special with a passion. They want to drive the industry, not just cash in.
That said, they could fail horribly regardless. But I believe in Valve! :P
Well it looks like some people disagree with both of us. WTF?
i heart Gordon Freeman
Except HL3 won't be out until 2015.
This year from EA games!! Madden 2015 - Vick's comeback tour! now with realistic NFL draft!
yeah knowing how Valve works my children will be probably enjoying HL3 and my grandchildren the HL3 Episodes
great news..hey VALVE you already know that the PS3 sucks right? your boss say that..so why wasting your time with EA for a sucket port to the PS3...make HL3 exclusivity for PC and Xbox
We're not likely to see Half-Life 3 within the 360's lifetime. Valve still has to make Episode 3. Then there will be a long ass delay before it hits PC's. Then we may see a crappy home console port way at the end of the 360/PS3 life cycle. Sort of like Half-Life 2 on xbox.
Hope they make a source engine 2... drools
I'm fully expecting them to release HL3 on Source Engine 2 sometime during the 'next generation'.
I know this doesnt matter but i am so drunk now........................... .............................. . ....................hahhahahah a ha................ What the hell is half-life..................... ..........................hahah ahahahaha...................... .....
Here's a thought for those of us who have purchased/will purchase the Orange Box: Release EP. III on the consoles as an expansion-type game at a reasonable price. No reason console gamers shouldn't be able to finish the story.
Release HL2 and all three Episodes in a single package for PC and consoles.
Release Portal by itself at $20 for consoles and PC. More people need to experience the greatness of Portal.
are you a marketing person for valve???
Nooo....if I were, I'd be richer. :)
Also confirmed is that Gabe Newell will eat 3 packages of twinkies a day until HL3 is released to commemorate HL3. Also confirmed is that he will continue such commemoration indefinitely.
Sorry couldn't resist. The guy is a whiner.
what an imaginative bunch at valve i can just see the board meeting now: "hey guys we need a new ip i think we haved milked half life franchise for all its worth" gabe newell reply's: nah' lets just make a part 3, im too busy eating twinkies to come up with another game.
I thought the episodes were supposed to be Half-Life Three, but I guess they are just the true ending to the game instead of that half-assed deus ex machina ending from the original.
Half Life 1 set the standard for years, then Half Life 2 set the new standard. Half Life 3 with definitely not be out for 5 years and be on a new engine, and they'll probably work with havok to really redefine in-game physics...again.
