According to an analyst Doug Creutz, he suspects that Electronic Arts has invested at least half a billion dollars into the massive MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic...
somehow I doubt they spent 500 million dollars on one game.
They needed to get the rights to publish the game, so it isn't out of the question it costed that much.
Having made the critically acclaimed KOTOR, you think it would have been hard to aquire rights? ( A serious question )
There is a difference between making a typical game and making a highly marketed MMO that will be highly scrutinized. MMO's need people to buy in month after month, if the game flops then it won't be forgotten easily by the people who were paying the subscription.
Should have made KOTOR 3. Old Republic series is now ruined EDIT: LOL i guess no one here probably has played KOTOR 1. Story was way better and interesting, much deeper and gameplay was not a generic mission structure all MMO's have which is collect that, kill that blah blah blah and they ruined Revan by giving him a generic face, a generic voice and made him appear all bat shit crazy. Thanks Bioware your ruined one of the greatest RPGs of all time
How is it ruined? SWTOR rocks! It's getting alot of positive attention.
TOR is essentially just that. It's just they added on MMO features and called it a MMO. Nothing that bad about it unless you expected a full fledged MMO.
It's kotor online so how the phuck wa it ruined?
not even close to what KOTOR was. similarity is in name only
Um, its KOTOR + WoW, essentially KOTOR Online, and KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. Don't like it? Go play KOTOR 1 over, over, and over.
that 500 million plus profit could be made long as users continue to support the game
Sure doesn't feel like it.
I guess the voice acting was damn expensive.
Which, might I add, is so damn good!
100% bull. Doesnt even make remote sense. I would be surprised beyond measure if it was 100M
Video game industry execs LOVE to pretend games cost this much when it is all complete and utter bull. This game did not require a dime over 50m to actually make. You could add in 100 million for marketing or whatever as well. Whether they want to charge absurd prices for their salaries at the top is not of concern. This isn't even close to some Hollywood blockbuster in manpower and technology and they require 200 to 300 million at most and take over 200 man teams to make. These guys are so full of shite.
If this is true, damn. I don't even think Titanic or Avatar cost this much to make.
I doubt it because what's in the game that could possibly cost that much. It's not like they bought the right to use Star Wars ought-right, they pay a percentage to Lucas Arts to license it. They'd need a team of 1000 people getting paid like 100 000 bucks a year for 4 years and another 100 mill on marketing to reach that.
Its one great game, it you have not played it you missing out imo.
