IGN - They say you can't judge a book by its cover.
In 2004, while freelancing for food, I was dispatched a review copy of a game I hadn't heard about from a developer I never knew existed.
That game was FlatOut, and the developer was Finnish studio Bugbear. FlatOut, to this day, remains the reason I hesitate to make snap judgements about games I have no knowledge of. Before I booted up FlatOut I fully expected to spend an entire day sailing the seas of mediocrity, begrudgingly navigating myself through an ocean of instantly forgettable, bargain bin racing.
