Sony Partners With Playboy Cyber Girl Jo Garcia To Make PlayStation Vita More Sexy

Sony Computer Entertainment has been receiving positive buzz from its mainstream showcase of PlayStation Vita hardware and games at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012). With its February 22nd U.S. launch fast approaching, Sony is rolling out hands-on PS Vita showcases in major cities across the country. In addition, the game publisher has partnered with Playboy’s 2008 Cyber Girl of the Year Jo Garcia to host eight parties in eight cities between January and March. Garcia, who owns the Gamer Next Door site that runs on Playboy.com, talks about the PS Vita and how she’s working with Sony in this exclusive interview.

The story is too old to be commented.

Maybe i'll attend the NY show for a first look. (Not of the PSVita) ;)

killerhog2101d ago

wow sony... wow... thats not a good sign if sony has to resort to that, it only portends a bad future for the vita...

-Alpha2101d ago

God forbid they advertise.

GraveLord2101d ago

yeah. Sony is advertising now. wow how low will they go!?

jujubee882101d ago (Edited 2101d ago )

So no company in the history of anything has ever used sex to sell . . . until now?

Yeah, that does portend ill /sarcasm.

Hollywood and pop culture as a whole is built upon sex, did you not know this?

Whether or not that is morally bad has very little to do with marketing the PS Vita at this point. The demographic the PS Vita is aiming for is adult and teenage males. What do they like besides a gaming device? Sexy woman! What else? Fast food (in the PS Vita's case, Taco Bell).

So, all in all nothing is portending a bad future. It is just marketing and right now Sony is targeting a specific demographic with the PS Vita. Marketing is two faced, and can change.

@jujubee88

where do i begin...

1. outside of Japan Sony never (that i can recall) used pornstars or strippers to advertise their products. sony outside of Japan is perceived as a more family recognized brand.

2. the demographic ALL competitors are aiming for is kids and casuals. you would think the market is adults but it really isnt. in fact, most teenage/adult gamers are bashing portable gaming as "not hardcore".. so, if majority of this market is out, then who's left? thats right, KIDS/CASUALS.

3. only a small percentage of people prefer tacobell. just because tacobell is sponsoring this sweepstakes doesnt mean the WHOLE demographic likes tacobell

4. growing up in the gaming/anime scene, most people in this hobby prefer asian girls/women over white or other races. why do you think most (if not all) western cosplayers get bashed and even the worse japanese/asian cosplayer gets praised?

really, this decision Sony made is out of their usual character. it raises eyebrows, especially with ps vita so-and-so reception in Japan.

jujubee882101d ago

@killerhog3:

Do not prefice a response with "where do I begin". Otherwise you just come off as an a**. Yeah, I do realize I was being an a** but, two wrongs do not make a right! lol

1. I doubt you would know about what SCEJ's advertisement is like unless you are some kind of historian and/or have lived in Japan since the PS1 days.

2. No, you do not understand the difference between the population and a sample. The population is the at large audience. The sample is the demographic. That is literally the definition.

3. Taco Bell is a pretty large and well known fast food chain (at least around where I live). It is part of the American culture POPULATION to eat fast food. Again, not saying Americans eating fast food like Taco Bell is good or bad. It is just a fact that lots of people do eat there.

4. What kind of backwards logic are you using? You are imposing your fetish of Asian woman on others you claim to be in the "gaming/anime" culture and for no reason. You do realize the demographic of male gamers can be sexually attracted non-asian woman as well, do you not?

The PS Vita is not so-so in Japan. In any poll that gets pulled, the Japanese audience (be it gamers or non-gamers) does want a PS Vita however, the recession in Japan and cheaper competition does play in impact in obtaining a PS Vita. Please, use logic and research your facts.

killerhog32101d ago (Edited 2101d ago )

@jububee

1. No, im not a historian but sex there is a norm, over here not so much. for sony to use a pornstar (which they never did outside of japan) raises eyebrows on why they are using that tactic to advertise the vita for the West.

2. Dude you tried to justify your comment and Sony's action as "catering" to teenagers and adults until i shattered your argument. now you want to come up with that reply? the demographic is kids not teenagers or adults.

3. are you forgetting about Mc'Donalds? tacobell is not as big as burgerking or Mc'donalds. just because tacobell is sponsoring one sweepstakes with the vita? all americans/gamers are tacobell fans? really? i dont know one person who likes tacobell. so dont try to rescind your statement because thats exactly what you were implying.

4. anime and gaming (anime especially) is more synonymous with the asian culture. before it started blowing up here in the states (wii with the casual). it was more common to run into an asian than a white girl or hispanic girl in this hobby. thus why most gamers (from MY experience) prefer asian girls/women, they relate to our hobby. you know, meet people who have your interest? also theres no "fetish" here just common sense.

5. really back to the poll? really? you do know that a poll does not get answered by the majority right? just because 1,000 people say "they want a vita" doesnt mean the rest of the population wants it for example

you have no idea what you are talking about, but then again this is N4G and people like to pretend they do, like YOU.

p.s i knew you werent going to use common sense too, i was looking forward to your reply.

killerhog32101d ago (Edited 2101d ago )

more on the pornstar spectacle.

in japan sex is a norm. sony advertising with pornstars or strippers there, wont offend or have people raising eyebrows. here sex isnt a norm and MOST Americans (Caucasian families) would rather not talk about it. sony pulling a stunt like this in NA, would have families burning Sony products.

and also

more on my comment about gamers/anime fans preferring asian girls. im 23 years old. was gaming since the super nintendo. loved anime since i was 8. growing up real life and online (especially online), it was super rare to meet a girl (outside of being asian) who was into gaming and anime. i dont know how it is now, with the nintendo wii introducing casuals, but i still here and there run into more asian girls than any other race when it comes to games and anime (especially in my age group). so again no "fetish" here dude just common sense. all of these hobbies (anime, gaming, Pc) were geek/nerd hobbies, not the cup of tea of MOST white girls, hispanic girls, black girls etc. unless they were geeky/nerdy and still that percent was overshadow by asian girls as they perceived these hobbies differently than other girls from other races.

i can meet thousands of asian girls easily who at 23 and older can share my interest of anime/gaming but finding a white girl or hispanic girl (my age) who also does, is still super rare.

@ killerhog3- Dude,we're talking about a Playboy Model, not a pornstar, there ain't nothing wrong with a playboy model, there's even female celebrities that appeared on playboy magazines, all naked, but its not like they're doing inappropriate things.... BTW, they're likely targeting the teenagers & adults to buy the device, cause this isn't about Nintendo & 3-9 year old kids, it's Sony, their main demographic is teenagers & adults, whether you like it or not, gaming is a lifestyle, not a kids's toy!!!!! BTW, let Sony do their thing, because the device is only out in one market, give it a great amount of time to see how it progresses, then we'll see the outcome, & please don't be such an obvious fanboy!!!!!!

On the girl's subject, I could careless where she's from as long as she's attractive, if she doesn't like videogames, that's her problem, she can watch soap operas for all I care, listen to Lil Wayne, I still don't care, as long as she lets me enjoy my hobbies, we both good!!!!!

Cant wait for the hands-on.

Convas2101d ago

Heh heh, I see what you're doing there ...

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2101d ago

The irony?

The Vita actually makes HER look more sexy...

Majin-vegeta2101d ago

*This is how I feel about that. If you’re a gamer, you don’t really play hardcore videogames on tablets.*

Oh she knows her stuff alright:D.

Undeadwolfy2101d ago

I follow her on twitter. She is a gamer. :)

killerhog22101d ago

everybody is a gamer. my cat is a gamer. she watches me play at times and even plays around with my ps3 controller.

AscendantX2101d ago

@ Majin-vegeta
Sony wouldnt want a repeat of the Rainie Yang incident, so they likely told her what to say and when to say it.

killerhog22101d ago (Edited 2101d ago )

@vegeta

i been playing games since the super-nintendo to pc and everything in-between (handhelds to be specific). im fit, not bad looking, met girls, and ill admit i own an ipod and game on there proudly. i can tell you there's a lot of great games that should be put on the consoles, and would work well on tablets, if youre on the train or on lunch break. really, only little kids would think tablet or ipod gaming is useless. if youre quoting her, that was just an ignorant comment on her part, because same could then be said to the vita.

i also agree with ascendantx. what she said, looks more apposite to what sony would say, to take a stab at their competitors.

-Mika-2101d ago

Ugh she not even cute and she just looks trashy.

gamingdroid2101d ago

I'm sure her standing right next to the PS Move will make it look that much more hardcore! :D

rataranian2101d ago

Bad move Sony. She looks like she could be Aria Giovani's stunt double.

Urrakia342101d ago

I think Sony should launch a $500,000 marketing campaign for the Vita.

Marketing > Games
