Screwdriver needed to open PS Vita game card and accessory slots

PSU writes: "It's good thing we have a flat-head screwdriver handy at PSU towers because without it we wouldn't have been able to open the PS Vita game cartridge and accessory slots that are nestled on top of the unit." (PS Vita)

I'll keep one nail extra long just for this. The perfect solution.
KeiserSosay4788  +   1484d ago
That's what I'll tell my friends and family. "I don't have a coke problem! It's to open my Vita slots!"

I can see the meeting with the head editor now.

"Johnson! What was your thoughts on the Vita we got?"
"It's pretty cool! A sweet little gadget, feels great in my hands, love the screen, dual joysticks were a long time coming!"
"Excellent! Headline it, 'Sony's Vita, better late than never?'"
"Not exactly sir, I did have one gripe"
"What was that?"
"The game cover took a bit of extra effort, I broke my nail, I just had them done!"
"So what did you do Johnson?"
"I just ended up using something flat nearby to prop it open, had a screwdriver on my desk, no biggie"
"Excellent! Headline it, 'Screwdriver Needed to Open PS Vita Game Card and Accessory Slot'."
"Great idea sir! We're sure to get lots of hits for a sensationalist title like that!"
"Print it!"
*Both laugh hysterically like idiots*

That's my thoughts.

That was an entertaining read XD.

Just make sure it's on a nail, the girls wouldn't mind. Because the ladies don't like those rough nails!
Blaze929  +   1484d ago don't need a screwdriver to open the game card slot etc. It's called using your nails. Oldest kind of slot cover style in the book.

MAiKU  +   1484d ago
Try all you want to deter me media, but i'm still buying a vita.
matt801  +   1484d ago
Totally agree bubbles for u!
LOGICWINS  +   1484d ago
Why would a Playstation focused site want to deter you from buying a Playstation product? I know this is N4G...but you ARE allowed to use your brain once in a while ya know.
MAiKU  +   1483d ago

Because the hype right now with the media is to post articles like this with hit counts and lemming following. "oh maybe i should think twice then" "oh maybe it's not that great after all"

Screw you and your thinking, your brain didn't get you far did it? Just because a site has a brand doesn't mean it's never wrong, not every book can be judged just by it's cover. AND i'm getting sick and tired of reports just like this flooding the news feed.

Did my logic play fair now? You could have figured that all out without me explaining if you used context clues. Guess your brain wasn't used.

You should really change your user name.

Those port doors will soften out after a couple of uses, you wont need a screwdriver.
tarbis  +   1483d ago
Actually, they're already soft
metsgaming  +   1484d ago
These kind of slots are nothing new get over it.
ronin4life  +   1484d ago
Some are hard to open, and some are not. It is hardly worth troubling oneself over.
I completely agree.
ps3dude44  +   1484d ago
nice and sturdy
Optical_Matrix  +   1484d ago
Nice try. I've used my friend Vita plenty of times and even with my short nails taking games out/putting them in isn't a problem at all. Straws....stop grasping at them.
ronin4life  +   1484d ago is a PlayStation focused site. Why would they complain in order to make a PlayStation product look bad?
Although, the title is misleading. I would hardly consider this news or anything worth focusing on anyway, and it doesn't seem like they are trying to make it out to be a big deal.

Let them see what they want to see. Either way...PSU gets hits.

Someone is exaggerating.
Tomonobu Itagaki  +   1484d ago
I don't see what's wrong. I use a sledgehammer in order to switch on my Xbox 360, sounds pretty normal.

ronin4life  +   1484d ago that really you, Itagaki?
If so, when is Devils Third coming out?
@below reply:
Not really, though I should. You mean "seven falls, eight getting up", right? Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm not really good at Japanese...(I had heard of that proverb before, but I still had to look it up to make sure I was remembering the same one.)

Is that really you, ronin4life?
If so, do you follow the shichi ten hakki proverb?
ronin4life  +   1484d ago
Ouch, who gave us the "disagree"? Guess I should have stayed OT. Sorry.
Ok, how about this: if this were an actual, existing problem in any scope, we would have heard more of it after the Japanese launch.
TheGamingArt  +   1484d ago
This article has already been posted. The title is also miss leading.
kaveti6616  +   1484d ago
I needed to buy a Torx screw driver head in order to take apart my PS3. It was a harrowing experience.
Foxgod  +   1484d ago
Must be bull, because theres clearly a little crack visible in those slots where you can put your fingernail.

So unless you bite your nails for some reason, you should be fine.
1Victor  +   1484d ago
well I'll have my atomic laser screw driver handy in pocket
pythonxz  +   1484d ago
Better yet, a sonic screwdriver!
brettyd  +   1484d ago
damn really? thats a deal breaker for me..
Abriael  +   1484d ago
"*I* had trouble opening the slot on *MY* Vita, hey it's news!"

Seriously what some would do in order to get some hits nowadays...
LOGICWINS  +   1484d ago
Whats even funnier is that its working. 130 degrees and counting.
Outside_ofthe_Box  +   1484d ago
You do realize you are contributing to the degrees as well?

I find that pretty funny.
Hicken  +   1484d ago
Of course he realizes it. That's the only reason he's doing it. That way it gets more time in the spotlight, and more people get the chance to bash the Vita. It's all in the hopes that LOGIC will win.
ziggurcat  +   1484d ago
oooooh.... so *that's* why the vita is "doomed"...
Tony-A  +   1484d ago
I know people have emphasized that the slot doors are a bit fidgety to work with, but I realize they don't make a huge deal out of it (aside from smaller gaming sites), probably for the same reason I don't. I think we would all prefer to have to work a bit to open it up than to have it loosely flapping around in the air and allow dirt and other particles in the compartment.

Just a safety precaution by Sony's manufacturing team, I presume. Better to hear stories like this than the opposite of the situation.

the more i think about it, the less i am interested in swapping cards in a portable system. so now i decided i'm just getting a 32gb card and downloading all my games (at hopefully a lower online price)......with the exception of uncharted. that's because i already had it pre-ordered for 39.99, and also i can just permanently keep it in the vita card slot, and it's like getting an extra 3.3gb of memory space free.
MasterCornholio  +   1484d ago
Strange how the article makes it seem that you would have to use a tool that could potentially damage your device in order to replace the cards

A creditcard or your fingernail will do but using a screwdriver not only is it unnecessary but it's stupid as well.

Bathyj  +   1484d ago
I need a screwdriver just to get out of bed in the morning.
MasterCornholio  +   1484d ago
I used to need a screwdriver just like you, but then I took a bottle of jack. With lots of bacon.

Bathyj  +   1484d ago
Jacks good for afternoons, or late mornings, but I like the OJ first thing.

Its good to stay healthy.
tarbis  +   1483d ago
My thumb's bigger than that person's thumb in the picture and had just recently cut my nails. But, I had no problems opening the ports whatsoever, even the smaller memory card port was easy for me to open.
I strongly think that he just have a terrible eyesight.
