Amazing numbers for MS.

Congratulations.

•Xbox 360 is the best selling console in the US.
•66 million Xbox 360′s sold worldwide
•18 Million Kinect Sensors sold worldwide
•Nearly 40 Million Xbox Live members worldwide

I can see MS doing even better this year with a good price cut.

Dante below, You care to elaborate and explain what your getting at a little more clearly?
They are official numbers. It would be illegal to post false numbers.

So 3.4 million was sold from November to December in the US. I guess Microsoft sold 6.6 million total (lol) in other territories, in those same months for their 66 million units sold to be true, huh.

Edit: I guess they're leaders in both Europe and other countries as well last year. Can't wait for the numbers from European countries lol.

18 million shipped on kinect.

@Dante112

I don't know what you are trying to say?

That said, the 10 million includes October as well. MS are lead in UK, which is the biggest region in Europe and on track to best Wii install base.

Pretty impressive if you ask me... without pulling an official price cut out of their hat. I guess they will save it for later.

I do find it interesting how MS stays relevant to the topic of NPD where as Sony (in another article) instead talks world wide numbers.

No doubt both platforms have their sweet spots for sales but lets at least try to stay on topic.

This is what happens when you make two years of great moves despite your detractors..

I called this since E3 in June of last year.

Back when every media outlet claimed that Micrsoft had a bad E3 showing, I've been saying it was the exact opposite.

Micrsoft set up the perfect holiday season and I kept saying by Nintendo phoning it in this year there was literally no competition for Kinect.

What you'll see is the momentum is going to carry the 360 number throughout the first quarter.

Already Microsoft got smart and set up a Summer of Arcade type event for February w/ I am Alive and 3 others.

Then Mass Effect 3 blesses at the beginning of March.

Games will flow until June..which is E3 time

The swan song 7th year holiday will end with Fable leading for Kinect and Halo 4 smashing retail in November.

Wii-U will do great but mark my words, if they still go the nunchuck route and you have a cheaper Kinect which acts like a retail pricedrop on the bundle...then even Wii-U won't beat the 360 next year.

At the end of the day..only time will tell

So, just to clarify - we're now believing that Microsoft sold 10 million consoles in the Oct-Dec quarter? That's what we're believing now? That even though the quarter before saw 360 sales drop almost 20% year over year, suddenly, miraculously, Microsoft shifted that momentum and sold 60% more consoles then they did the year before - their best quarter ever?

Again...let me know if I'm getting what's being said here. 10 million? Almost 4 million MORE than the last Christmas where Kinect was selling like crazy, there was new hardware and they had a Halo game launch? 10 million? That's what some of you believe?

Was there a new continent made entirely of gamers that somehow was just discovered and Microsoft launched there? Take Microsoft's best 360 sales quarter ever, and add 60%. When consumer spending was down this Christmas season...

Ok. Just wanted to make sure. I guess we'll find out for sure next week when MS's financials are out. I guess anything's possible, if not probable.

So are you saying MS is lying?

You know the sort of thing that could get them in trouble with the SEC, and subjected to lawsuits over a silly sales number....

***Almost 4 million MORE than the last Christmas where Kinect was selling like crazy, there was new hardware and they had a Halo game launch? 10 million? That's what some of you believe?***

Sony sold less than 2 million consoles in the US, of the roughly 4 million announced worldwide. That's about double for WW.

MS announced roughly 4 million for the two months, November and December, in US. Double that for WW and add October and you are well within range of 9-10 million consoles sold.

***Was there a new continent made entirely of gamers that somehow was just discovered and Microsoft launched there? Take Microsoft's best 360 sales quarter ever, and add 60%. When consumer spending was down this Christmas season...***

Sort of... casual gamer spending tends to concentrate around Holidays and through friend referral and first hand experience (maybe through a friend) unlike early adopters and core gamers.

As usual the fanboys now claim MS is lying when the numbers don't go the way they expected.

Congratulations Microsoft

Dante1122105d ago (Edited 2105d ago )

Great numbers, how many did they sell in December 2010?

Captain Tuttle2105d ago

Down yoy I think. Not great numbers for MS

Intentions2105d ago

You serious?

1.7 m * $200 (average cost of console i think..)

Do the maths.

Christopher2105d ago

10m from Oct-Dec wordwide is far from bad. This is just U.S. for one month.

GameTavern2105d ago

Yeah a solid number, but it does show a decline of 8.6%, which is odd since thought Nov was up huge.

gamingdroid2105d ago (Edited 2105d ago )

With no official price cuts to boost sale, that is a very strong result. It's hard to top 1.8 million in November.

@GameTavern

Well you have to look at the industry as a whole, so the real question is what is the competition doing?

I expected a huge decline with no price cut in sight with stronger competition ...not 10 million sold in one quarter Worldwide.

edit: Sony sold 3.9 million in about 1.5 months during the holiday season worldwide. That is the best selling time of the year.

http://www.videogamer.com/n...

I don't remember seeing anything from Nintendo regarding Wii... maybe somebody else can enlighten?

Captain Tuttle2105d ago

That's a really good point about price cuts, the 360 hasn't had a real one in years. Hopefully these numbers will push MS towards doing one.

Machioto2105d ago

They wouldn't need a price cut because the 4gig model is meant for the casual gamer and anything above that is to compete with the ps3 which doesn't have a real entry level machine.

ksense2105d ago (Edited 2105d ago )

They do have a second sku that sells for 199 which is less than sony. And those were going on sale with 75 dollar credit during the holidays from time to time which makes it 125 dollars so my guess is that had to be most of these sales. It is like how ps2 sold when it was at those levels. So gamingdroid no need to question the competition when they are doing well for themselves and hitting their sales targets which is 15 million in the fiscal year. ofcourse they would love to do more but hey xbox is popular in US this gen and it will take a lot to outsell them here in the US.

gamingdroid2105d ago

The deals really slowed down in December. I expected some of the Black Friday deals to pop up closer to Christmas, but they never did.

During BF, MS had a $60 GC for a 4GB Xbox 360 S priced at $200 and Sony had a PS3 160GB bundled with a game for $250 with a $50 GC.

It should be clarified that these are US numbers and not worldwide numbers.

ZippyZapper2105d ago (Edited 2104d ago )

Thanks for helping those people with "US" blindness. Just in case they missed it at the top of the page.

_Aarix_2104d ago

But Steve Balmer confirmed that the xbox was the best selling console of 2011 WORLDWIDE and if he was lying then he would be arrested.
