Incoming Battlefield 3 Updates – Red Dot/Holo Fix, M320 Tweak, and Javelin Nerf

Mp1st - Alan Kertz, Senior Gameplay Designer at DICE has recently listed some updates that we can soon expect to see in Battlefield 3.

Seriously. Theo only issue is the auto shotguns with frag rounds. But in all honestly the "nerfs" don't seem too bad, more like tweaks to that they perform as intended. At this point I'm more irritated by what they haven't fix than by what they have.

Dont be a baby, BF has always been about air. This isnt COD, All you need is two people with stingers or javs and the aircraft is down.

Naaah, helicopters could do with a bit more power. They're a bit redundant on the battlefield at the moment. Aerial warfare has always been a large part of Battlefield... A good team controls the skys as well as the ground.

Javelin is a tad bit too effective against air vehicles though, if you have a few friendly SOFLAMs on your side.

However, they better increase the ammo capacity for Javelin if they nerf the damage.

Every game and server I play on people use it, its OP as fuck. Soflam is used ALL the time on B2K DLC, I dont know about you Console kiddies with 24 players, but in a 64 player room a few people have some working brain cells to put a Soflam up.

I like how the people bitching are the people who use the shit out of it. They are upset they will be getting less kills with an OP method.

Javs dont beep when shot, you have no idea when they are in the air unless they are in your LOS. Thats fucking OP for a video game, when all other lock-ons beep for you to flare.

TXonySbox has a point, I don't play on the PC but the chances of having more SOFLAMS deployed with a 64 player game is quite obvious.

On the PS3 with 24 players, you have 12 players on a team taking into account people don't quit. I can count on one hand the number of times ive been fortunate enough to have been able to use a javelin on a jet or heli.

Go on nerf it on consoles and make it completely redundant. i mean seriously, why don't you buff the usas while you're at it, its not like the entire EA forum is constantly complaining about it now is it?

M320 has a timing feature. If you shoot it near u it will only do 50 damage unless direct hit. If you shoot it at someone far away itll do 100 damage. In an attempt to reduce spam on Metro but lol that failed.

edit: BF games can take up to if not more than yr to balance so be prepared for a ride.

Actually they need to stop nerfing and buffing and actually take a look at balance. It seems as though all they are doing is looking at a specific problem/issue and then only adjusting that one thing. They need to step back and take a look at air vs. ground balance as a whole. Javelin's have become "OP" because they made the stingers useless. If they had just done a better job balancing the stingers and helicopters this probably never would have become an issue because people would still be using stingers.

I actually love repairing tanks as an engineer. I just wish my teammates would coordinate better. Normally, instead of waiting for the tank be repaired, they just drive off.

2 hit with soflam kills a tank you know? If they buffed it 2 hits w/o soflam and 1 hit with soflam ppl wouldnt use tanks ever on the maps that spam soflams. if its 1 engineer healing the tank he can heal off the damage of 1 guy with javalins but if there are 2 guys with javalins he cant do it by himself. So thats why having 1 guy in tank + 2 engineers healing is so good and destroys u. Look at that teamwork. They should pound you into the ground with 3 guys working together. You make it sound like 1 guy with a javelin should be 2 engineers repairing and that is wrong.

They need to Buff the G3 and AN94 along with some PDW's... Because they are useless... Also the tanks taking more than 3 RPGs to kill is too much...

RPG can blow a tank in two shots if you get behind it, first shot will disable and second shot will blow it up if you have the distance right.

Combine that with the fact you have the additional explosives squad perk, 2 engineers in a squad = 18 RPGS. And you want a buff on the rpg or a nerf on tank armor? :)

I also agree with G3. It was a great weapon in BFBC2. Not so easy to use but very powerful. Now it's difficult to even engage somebody with an assault rifle 1:1. But it has a great sound though :)

I CAN'T be the only one who thinks the USAS needs some serious tuning. Getting shot at by that POS is like running through a minefield, The earth around you shakes.

And the stationary emplacements could do with some boost that AA gun in the deployments is useless

I'm with you there. I'm still pretty new with BF3 (only rank 19) and I had someone mention how "skilless" the USAS was and I took notice after dying to it multiple times following that.

It's basically an assault rifle shotgun. I wouldn't mind seeing it hit with a nerf.

Lord nerfing the anti vehicles weapons -_-, maybe i have bad luck but usually when a vehicle ground or air attacks i am one of maybe 3 engineers on may team trying to kill it.

Everyone doesn't drop what their doing to try and kill the enemy vehicles, it would be nice but not happening so usually it's 1 engineer trying to kill one or more tanks ect. And the first tier anti-air missile, garbage.

I loved bfbc2, but jesus christ for cod being called the campers game, bf 3 isn't far beyond it, everyone is camping prone in corners, hiding in bushes or waiting hiding somewhere.

But yeah lets nerf a op vehicle killer weapon, nevermind the semi auto shottys with grenade rounds, or the silenced lmg 2nd story campers ect.

On pc with 64 players a anti vehicles weapon nerf is reasonable, on consoles it ridiculous because 1 tank or air vehicle isn't going to have 12 engineers trying to kill it, not on any games i played.

I don't know why they even bother adding some of those weapons they are so useless. What's the point of using the stinger missile when all they have to do is kick out the flares each time. Flares don't always work in real life and they shouldn't in the game either. Stinger missiles are what drove the Soviets out of Afghanistan because they didn't have effective counter measures.

If you are complaining that certain weapons are OP, and NOT complaining instead about broken VOIP, flashing green screens, broken squad system, occationally getting trapped in the respawn screen for the duration of a match, and falling through terrain on a handful of maps while lying prone... then you suck at battlefield. Dont blame "gun balance" for the fact that you get killed a bunch while not killing much.

The gun balance is 99% fine, The glitches are not. (with the sole exception of USAS-12 w/ frag rounds-splash damage should be nerfed a slight bit with those) Weapons that are highly effective also take considerable practice to be effective with. (i.e. Javelin, M320 launcher, etc. even the FAMAS is difficult to be accurate when firing on the move, due to the fire rate and recoil)

In cod, I was more a fan of close-mid range combat.

Tips and tricks for success with BF3:

Ok, whatever you do, DONT GIVE UP ON THIS GAME!! coming from CoD, you will experience a steep learnign curve in BF3 in order to be successful.
Here are the most basic things I can think of that may help you out a bit.

1. Get used to firing in bursts. In Cod, the guns don't have much recoil, so you can happilly lay on the trigger as you pum rounds into your target. In BF3, laying on the trigger will help you miss more often. When using an automatic weapon, once you aqquire a target pull the trigger in quick bursts. (if your target is on the move, be sure to aim the gunsights a bit in front of him to compensate for bullet trajectory in combination with his movement). When engaging a faraway target, it's best to utilize the selsectable fire rate that most BF3 guns are equipped with. For faraway targets use single shots to minimize recoil. (select fire rate with DOWN on the D-pad 1. single shot, burst shot, full auto)

2. Take advantage of the team mechanics. Dropping medpacks, ammo, and fixing vehicles will increase your points toward leveling up your kits and increasing rank... and it's good to be a helpful teammate. AND Dont forget to help teammates keep tabs on the enemy by "spotting them." when you have an enemy in your sights hit the select/back button to call out their position to the other team.

3. When playing conquest (BF's version of CoD's "Domination" gametype), be sure to break the old CoD habit of laying directly on the flag. The area around the Conquest flags where you can position your self and still capture the flag is quite large and often encompasses severl things to take cover behind, or even buildings to hid in. listen for the "beep, bep beep" sound when your near a flag top know that your currently capturing it.

4. Play Smart. As your probably aware of by now, the flow of gameplay is much different from CoD. theres no need to run around guns blazing. grab a vehichle to get to the next objective, and move about the maps from cover to cover, keeping an eye on the radar.
