Kotaku - And, surprise surprise, it's for a HD anthology, in this case the re-releases of the first three Devil May Cry games.
HD collections always look terrible... I'll admit, though, that this one is especially bad.
The HD collection for Silent Hill has a bad ass cover.
Honestly, this DMC one doesn't even look too bad.
I must be the only one who actually kind of likes dmc cover art.
The HD collection for MGS looked good, no complaints on my end.
MGS-HD Collection one, was pretty good, not kitschy but kinda arty :) http://www.pixeljumpers.com...
the covers are always badass! Yoji Shinkawa is the man
I disagree with this assertion. MGS, Silent Hill, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, the God of War collections, and Prince of Persia have all been great... if you're referring to region 1. UK is a whole other story. Those box arts are terribad, that Classics HD banner they've been pioneering over there is hideous. I'd actually print off my own cover just so its shabby design didn't stand out in my collection. They are god awful. Over here in the West, they actually look quite nice. Minus the awful Devil May Cry and Tomb Raider collection.
Xbox 360 version >>> a flaming turd >>> ps3 version. You know its the truth. That giant silver sash is just ridiculous.
I've seen worse, besides idc abou the boxart its the game inside what's important.
Very true. But it' s not that hard to make a great cover! Expecially if you have years of time and a bunch of good artists like the most of the developers teams ;)
True... if only this was said a lot more during (FOR EXAMPLE) the Resistance 3 articles.
Its good idea to have it like this though. People will see it in a store and they'll know it has 3 games in one
It's far from the worse , it's exactly what you expect from a collection , a mash up of all the games included .. It's just efficiently cold . At least it got the collection angle as an excuse , other games however ..
Imagine Capcom putting the new Dante on the Collecton cover... I can see the DmC fans now... would be hilarious. Anyway the box art isn't too bad for the 360, the PS3 version leaves a lot to be desired though, would've been cool if they made some new artwork for it and just had that as the cover, oh well I'll still be buying the 360 version.
They're pretty much the same covers except for that weird gray banner on the PS3 version. I don't think the box art looks to bad myself. Anyway, congrats on getting the 360 version, now here's your cookie.
Am I a bad guy for not caring about cover art. just give me a good game.
ppl do care about the box ? i trow them away after i run the game on console
That's NOT bad cover art. Bad cover art explains nothing about the game and is unpleasant to look at...like most modern art. This author is a complete tool.
"Bad cover art explains nothing about the game" Exactly. They say "A picture is worth a thousand words". If you an uninteresting, boring and dull cover. Many people browsing at the local game store won't even bother looking at it because "it looks stupid". If you have some bad ass cover art, the average person might be like "Oh, that looks badass. What game is this?". They pick it up and read the back. Meanwhile; Ugly boxart collects dust.
it's Kotaku, afterall
Indeed, pretty fugly but it doesn't change its content.
Yes,that's a mediocre cover.But bad...not really.
Simply cheap and awful !
i do not, under any circumstances buy "hd" collections, seeing as; #1 they are not even true hd most of the time the are 720p or less #2 the pc has them all available for free if you own the original and can understand simple instructions on how to set up an emulator #3 said pc versions look better, run in 1080p and support anti aliasing while these console remakes are just bad upscaled ports with almost zero anti aliasing. before anyone says it, emulation is NOT piracy, as long as you own the original game, you make an iso of it, you are within your rights to play YOUR software in any format you see fit, if you figure out a way to play it on your alarm clock, more power to you. #4 with emulation, i do not have to wait for the game overlords to tell me when i can play a classic ps2 game in hd, i just fire up my emulator, make an iso of any game i want and boom 1080p 5x anti aliasing, 60 frames a second, for free!
How many people with emulators actually own the original copy of every game they emulate? I doubt I'd be reaching if I guessed the number was 0. None of anything you said was relevant to the subject at hand.
i do, i own like 75 ps2 games, i keep all my games so i can emulate them later, same reason i still have all my ps3 game i never play, soon i'll be playing them in 1080p at 60 frames!
I prefer the 360 art to the PS3 art - what's with the giant silver strip and 'Classics HD' that takes up half the cover? Why is the 360 ones (relatively) clean yet the PS3 one gets a giant, amateurish 'omg shiny and HD' banner across it that reminds me of those stickers they put all over TVs with the 'SuperMagicVividness Colour TechnologyTM'?
dont judge a book by its cover
The cover does have some appeal.. I mean I consider myself a knowledgable gamer since I've been gaming since the early 90's on all types of systems. Like I mainly buy games that I know I want. Because I have seen something about the game.. whether in a magazine or online.. But not all consumers are game crazy... some buy the games they know are hits.. some buy games they hear friends talking about.. and some people just go in an buy something they've never played before just to play something new or different... that's when cover art is more important I think... the average consumer that shops for games doesn't neccesarily have to be a gamer... it could be a mother, a father, grandmom, grandpop.... whoever.... and in saying that the cover of the game gives away alot of suggestions to purchase... I mean if I was going to buy a game for a 10 year old kid and I didn't know shit about games.. I would see something with blood all over the box art and immediatly be able to see I shouldn't buy that one for a 10 year old. stuff like that comes into play... and I suppose box art does mean alot... because it changes from country to country wherever a game releases... like Left 4 Dead for example... in America the hand on the cover is a decomposing Zombie hand missing one of the fingers.... in the European version the hand one the cover is different.. less gory.
So cry about how the case looks even if the games are awesome and better than the new DMC? -_- god can't people quit crying about the dumbest things?
Why did they even bother putting DMC 2 on the cover? We all know nobody is going to play it.
lol just buy it on PS3, the blu-ray cases look pretty awesome anyway... I kinda miss the spiderman text though lol
do they hire high school students to make the covers or something?
It's a shot of all the games within...I wouldn't consider it bad. ALL HD collections do this.
The first box ever I like better on 360. But both aren't that bad to be honest.
well not to hurt anyone but the skyrim one is really bad imo amazing game though
I don't mind these covers . They are to the point and they tell the consumer whats in the box.
