Square Enix discusses how they've been inspired by Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim while also commenting how they don't see other games in the genre as competition.
I think Square Enix need to stop taking inspiration from Western games and start looking to their back catalog of great RPG for inspiration. Remember FFXIII....they said Call of Duty was a big influence on them and we know how that turned out (corridorgameplay.com)
I agree, but at least Skyrim is an RPG.
Too bad Skyrim is still in beta.
Maybe there saying that it was inspired by those games to make it seem they tried to make the game OPEN WORLD. The truth is....there is really only one big massive roam area (archlytte steppe) in FF13-2!! Do you really think SE would listen to their fans and make FF13-2 more open like past FF's??? FF13-2 is just a quick cash in.
Ranma1 Why does a huge open area matter so much to you? There is clearly plenty of open areas, just because they aren't massive doesn't make it a lesser experience.
Too bad skyrim was the best game to come out in years
*spoiler* In FF13-2, the best ending finishes with "to be continued..." So they are probably making FF13-3 and will claim its to address the issues of FF13-2 (where they have towns, but cant go into any buildings). Lets talk with our wallet this time. Am not gonna buy 13-2. Lets give SE a message !
Then stop commenting on the articles. I can see disagrees coming here for telling a troll to stop trolling.
if you can't even enter the buildings then what is the point of the towns? My god Square, why you so lazy?
Wait...they have towns, but you can't enter the buidings? WTF that's the main reason I love towns! I love rummaging through people's houses and taking to the NPCs. D:
Actually, I don't know about everyone else, but I don't want them to simply "Go backwards". I don't want them to just create a traditional FF in HD--I want them to innovate and surprise me while keeping what makes Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy. Actually, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII are perfect examples of keeping the Final Fantasy experience and evolving at the same time.
Can people stop praising FF XIII versus, I know it's an easy way to get agrees around here.... Quite simply the games not even out yet it could be completely horrible even worse then FF XIV. Lets not pretend you have seen enough of it to decide otherwise. I get that type-0 is already out and you could of played the Japanese important but I find that unlikely also. PS, How is 13-2 not evolved it's basically final fantasy Pokemon with only 2 main playable characters seems nothing like the past FF games... Also don't try to use the exclusive argument to pretend that's why Versus will be good, FF XIV was a PC exclusive and more graphically powerful then the PS3 could possibly handle and that was still shit. Hence why they are redoing the entire graphics engine so it will run on the PS3.
^ Don't get me wrong. I'm not really praising Versus XIII, and I actually have played the full version of Type-0 in Japanese. At times, Type-0 strongly feels like a PSX final fantasy, but with a real time fast paced battle system and cinematic nature. What I said in regards to Versus XIII is that it both changes the Final Fantasy formula while keeping traditional values of final Fantasy like Overworld maps, Vehicles, Summons, etc.
I think the problem is that Square aren't really innovating with any of their recent FF titles, but neither are they creating games that traditional FF fans would really, really adore. They're at this bizarre crossroad where they need to decide what elements they want to innovate, and what elements they want to keep old-school...because right now they keep making weird experimental mish-mash games that have some great ideas, some ok ideas, and a lot of really bad ideas...and it's just depressing seeing a once incredible and innovative company that made some truly memorable title come out with games that are...well...not as great as they could be. At this point, I would gladly take a traditional styled Final Fantasy with no innovation than one that is directly ripped from Western developers. At least then I might get a bit of nostalgia from it. Instead of trudging through the game thinking "this could be so much more than it is". Heck, it has been about ten years since games like FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX and FFX were released and there are gamers who are still wow-ed by certain moments, scenes, character development or elements in those games. Could the same be said of FFXIII or FFXIV in 10 years? Probably not.
10 years ago it was WRPG dev's getting inspiration from FF. Today its the other way round Not to diss wprg's BUT HOW DID MY FAVOURITE SERIES OF ALL TIME FALL DOWN TO THE LEVELS OF A SEWER??? *weeps in sorrow*
this happened. Like the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words" https://encrypted-tbn2.goog...
Sorry I accidently disagreed thehater. Youre right, wada needs to go. If they make a 13-3 then the dug their own graves.
Maybe Square Enix should take their inspiration from Squaresoft.
Wow twice in one day....I never usualy like to use this but Square are trying so hard to make people buy this it's hilarious http://cdn.epicski.com/e/ed... If your so interested in the western market, why don't you just turn FF into a FPS while your at it /s
How could they have been inspired by Skryim if came out only 1 month before XIII-2 was released in Japan?
ever heard of Square Enix time machine? They used the time machine from Chrono Trigger to go forward in time. I thought this was common knowledge. LOLZ
Best comment here! SE is obviously talking out of their ass
As soon as I read the headline, I thought of EXACTLY what you said, GraveLord.
*facepalm* Oh Square... you never learn.
This is why Nomura's going to kill your asses with Versus XIII. He understands what it means to be a Japanese developer. He's been under Wada's thumb for too damn long. I hope he quits and starts his own company. This is bullshit. They do nothing but push his ideas to the side for the sake of trying to hit it big with the masses. YOU CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT. You have to just get in there and make good games. Games that you think are awesome, nothing that panders to ANY specific demographic. Why can't they understand this? Fire that overly monetary minded piece of shit already. It's clear that he won't stop seeing nonexistant dollar signs as they DONT fall into his accounts. He's a delusional nutbag at this point and he's dragging EVERYBODY down with him. Wada is essentially the madman muttering to himself at the bus stop. Anybody who was once a fan of Squaresoft should be pissed about this. Has nobody told him that westernizing games isn't appealing to most fans of JRPGs and the people he's trying to reach out to will just disregard it because it's not a shooter or they aren't familiar with the title at all? I'm sure somebody has told him, he just doesn't listen. And it's Kitase saying this? I hope he's just the unfortunate messenger in this case. I'd hate to believe he's a member of the Modern FF Bastardization Squad. He helped write FF7.
I'm not bashing vs13 but it does look like a game inspired by western developers. I mean one of the side characters u play shoots a gun in 3rd person lol
"I'm not bashing vs13 but it does look like a game inspired by *Kingdom Hearts." *Fixed.
Your logic is astounding.
Actually I take that back. Now that I look at it FFvs13 reminds me of a mix between FF8/FF7/Kingdom Hearts/Crisis Core In terms of story/setting/gameplay I mean
What it means to be a Japanese developer? Lol the hell?
"They do nothing but push his ideas to the side for the sake of trying to hit it big with the masses. YOU CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT." Exactly! The thing is they are suffering from what i like to call "The COD Effect". They want to make a FF that appeals to the masses and gains crazy popularity but they don't know or don't under stand how so they are butchering FF in process trying to figure it out. The truth is COD didn't gain its popularity from IW making some standard cookie cutter FPS, on the contrary IW had to reinvent the FPS genre as we knew it through creativity, innovation and hard work. Squeenix only needs to look back at what made past FF games so great, those games were truly original chock full of creativity and innovation. You can tell that the creators of the original FF games poured their hearts and souls into their games making each one a master piece and if they can only do that again they may be able to attain COD's level of success, basically just make great games!
*sign* square what are you thinking?
Why is Wada still in charge!? Give this guy the boot already!
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm actually really enjoying FF XIII. And to hear that Square-Enix found inspiration from Skyrim and Red Dead (my two favorite games from each respective year) is pretty cool. They both do open world right and hopefully it helped them make FF XIII-2 a better game in the end, because I think from what I've been shown so far, it looks really, really cool. If it's a bad/ok game, then oh well. If it turns out to be a refreshing and fun experience, more or less, then awesome and congrats to them. Pretty much all you can say, besides the age old bashing of the franchise nowadays.
FF-XIII is awesome,can't wait for XIII-2!
You forgot "/s"
Personally I wish it was inspired by what ever made earlier FF games so great. First we hear about how FFXIII was inspired by FPS, and we hear this about FFXIII-2. If red flags weren't already going off in my mind about this game, they sure are now. "Sqaure-Enix, please return to what you know and leave the western games to western companies."
"Final Fantasy XIII-2 inspired by Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim" Lol What!? FF13-2 is nothing like those games 0_o
Agree. I don't see some RDR / Skyrim elements in XIII-2. Look's like Kitase were drunk XD btw, you're avatar is cute (i luv Zelda: Minish Cap <3)
Yeah, im sure they did not follow skyrim, as the game released in november, when FFXIII-2 was already made.
on both Skyrim and RDR you can actually enter towns and evey single house is available to explore... (internal joke *lmao)
HAhahah!! I'm sorry but, WHAT? LOLOL!
