Sony Should (And Probably Will) Discontinue PlayStation Vita 3G

Chris Buffa (Modojo): It's a safe bet that Sony will sell quite a few 3G enabled PlayStation Vitas when the system goes on sale February 22 in the U.S; February 15 for early adopters.

At the same time, one could argue consumers will only purchase the $299.99 device because the $249.99 model will be sold out.

The story is too old to be commented.

They don't have to discontinue it, they can just produce less units of the 3G version. Some people like having choice.

Buff10442149d ago

Well...they'll begin by producing less...then it'll disappear.

again huh chris lol u crack me up.. any positive vita articles yet?

I don't think they'll stop making the 3G model Vitas until they come out with a 4G-capable Vita. When they make a 4G-capable Vita, we should be able to play online games with it because 4G is aLOT faster than 3G. Though, the internet cap might run out pretty fast.

I hope they come out with a LTE 4G capable Vita next year and allow Verizon and ATT both as options because ATT sucks. lol

If sales of the 3g model are too low they will discontinue it, it's uneconomical to produce if the volumes are too low.

True. Although I must admit, Sony dropped the ball on this one. 1. Adding 3G in the first place instead of 4G. 2. Using AT&T as the service provider 3. Not making it free to use.

If Sony would've done even 1 of those 3 differently, im sure the sales of the 3G model would've been drastically different.

I remember the collective groan at the Sony presser when AT&T appeared on the presentation screen.

Jihaad_cpt2149d ago

it would have costed more with 4G

Sharingan_no_Kakashi2149d ago

To make this a success Att should offer the 3g version of the vita with a sizeable rebate for a 2 year contract.

AT&T is turning a lot of people off of the 3G version here in the US based on the reactions after their announcement. I was always going for the simple WiFi version, but that's just because I was never a subscription based kind of guy (it's why I don't pay for XBL, Netflix, GameInformer, PS Plus or any of that, as much as I'd want to try them out). I know that I'll have to come around to it in the future, but it's avoidable right now so I'm going without it as my option.

Someone told me that 3G versions of devices always sell less the WIFI versions. So I don't see them discontinuing it, just shipping less of them. Chris comes through with another negative exaggerated article about the VITA. We all know you don't like the VITA but do you think you could be a little less obvious next time?
