IGN: Battlefield 3 Post Mortem: What Went Right and What Went Wrong

IGN: Electronic Arts-owned DICE might not have won the sales battle against Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but the acclaimed game studio has won over millions of shooter fans. Battlefield 3 offers a very different multiplayer experience, serving up a sandbox filled with the latest vehicles, jets and technology-equipped ground troops. Now that the dust has settled and the developer has had some time to take a breather from developing new DLC for the game, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach looks back at one of the biggest games of 2011, in this exclusive interview. (Battlefield 3, Patrick Bach, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Like Patrick says: they freaking nailed it, i am so addicted to this game right now. Battlefield 3 & Uncharted 3 are the only to Multiplayer games i play right now.

They could have fixed the single player campaign which was terrible. On the PS3 they should also fix the VOIP.

blame EA for the single player. It has gone down hill from BFBC1 which was awesome but nobody noticed. yet CoD's linear handholding rubbish sold a bunch. so now we have the same linear hand holding crap effectively removing any need to play the campaign before MP. bad company 1 was an open world playground where you could just screw around for hours practicing flying around or whatever. there is now no choice in the game but to follow the leader

*What's something that you would change if you had been given an extra few months of development time?

You can always do a bit more polish with extra time, of course. I wouldn't have changed any significant features with more time, though.

I wish they would have released BF3 a few weeks later to iron out some of the problems it has right now my main issue the VOIP issue i have no input lag PS3 version BTW.

Other than that the game is freaking awesome it's like a prostitute that you pick and she give's you the good stuff:P and you just can't get enoughh of her so you go back for some more xD.

Some guns are a little overpowered, but that's about it, the core gameplay is nailed. One thing that needs fixed? Bigger TDM maps, way too many people on them. Nothing else needs changed for me though, although I really hate the time it takes to do stuff like reload and crouch and get up from being prone and all that, it's so slow.

I have MW3 still sitting in the shrink-wrap. I'm all in for BF3. The biggest improvement I'd like to see is a higher player count (PS3 player). I miss the epic size of the BF2 battles on my PC.

I agree i would be happy if they could at least add 4 more players to each side then sometimes the matches wouldn't feel so dull.Ps3 player also.(Is is it even possible to add more players at this time??).

if its in shrink wrap, You should sell it. I came up on a couple of unopened games back in November and I made a pretty penny selling all of em.

Battlefield 3 = Best shooter of the year!!!

Sorry Red Orchestra 2 but BF3 is above and beyond the Osfront!!

BF3 > RO2 > MW3!!

The game is pretty sweet but i think them not adding battle recorder was missed opportunity and also some offline modes with bots would have been nice.

Post mortem? IGN be trollin, BF3 is very much more alive than CoD ever was. It may not have beat it in sales, but I'll take quality over sales anyday.

In the singleplayer the main guy is one of the worst looking junky characters ive ever seen in a game every other character looks normal and the over use of dust in office cut scenes they are all going to die from inhaling air cotton. But multi is great bfbc1 still has the best story imo.
