GameZone's David Sanchez discusses exactly why Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World stand tall among the platformer genre.
Personally Mario World is the better game. Probably the best in the series.
SMW is a SNES game. SMB3 is an NES game. The fact that they're even compared in a "which one is best?" contest makes me think that SMB3 is the better game. Both games have awesome level design and perfectly-tuned controls, but SMB3 is actually a challenging game whereas SMW is pretty easy (yeah, even including the Star World levels).
The SNES version of SMB3 I believe is on par with SMW. Both are my favorite Mario games Give each one of them a visual upgrade(as in NewSMBWii style) and just see how much it holds up. Make it happen Nintendo!
Super Mario World. Wow. That game is my sweetheart. One of two games that will forever be perfect in my eyes. I love SMB3 almost as much as the next man, but no game (aside from a certain RPG on the PS) comes close to being as timeless in my opinion. If I could buy a brand new SNES again I would. The game I would buy for it is Super Mario World.
Super Mario World will always be my favorite Mario game; more so than even the Galaxy games. It was just so fresh for its time and the feather/cape and multiple types of Yoshi's were a blast to use.
Mario Bros 3 is still my fav Mario game but I remember playing Mario World as a kid and that game was like crack for me. lol
It's really hard to say what's better but I would really like a Super Mario Bros 3-II because I played that the most when I was a wee lad. These "New" Super Mario Bros games while good can't compete with the old school Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario World is my favourite game of all time. It's as close to perfect as it is possible for a game to be (Tubular can go to hell though) and I would pop it in and play it any time. It holds up, like SMB3, because the control and level design are amazing, they can still challenge even when they make it easy for new players to get started.
They hold up better than 99 percent of the releases this year
super mario 3 world 8 can kick yo ass if you dont have a P stashed, or a Juglem's Cloud . more challenging than any other mario out there. There iz a 75% chance that you will receive an old school nes ass spanking
Super mario bros 3 & super mario world still have solid re-playability & uniquely stand out from the rest of the mario games!
Cheers Gamers & Happy Gaming!
Those are two of the greatest games ever made. That's all that needs to be said about them.
Very close call. Very close. SMB3 is far more challenging, and the last world is the height of any mario game, design and challenge wise. And unless you know how to get lots of 1ups this game will kick your ass. (unless you cheat with a P float). Super Mario World is easier. No doubt. It would be much harder if the 1ups werent so easy to get. However the addition of yoshi and my personal favourite item of all time (the cape), plus the Hub of the world being so "mysterious" and constantly changing especially in the forest..for me brings it ahead of mario 3 barely. Both games are the best of the genre and mario series, even better than mario 64 in my opinion. While 64 looked great..the "platforming" was much better in the 2-D iterations (for me). As 64 felt more of a zelda quest exploring and solving lots of puzzles mixed with platforming. I truly wish nintendo would make another mario 3/world retro type game again. I think they would be surprised at how well they would be received by gamers.
I liked SMB3 a lot better than SMW. I love the giant land :) I am glad I have them both on my Wii through VC
Everybody loves the world with the giant enemies because it was the first time anybody saw so many sprites that big in just 1 game. I heard those stages pushed the Nes to its limits. ;)
smw is one of the best games i have ever played i wish they would do it over for the 3ds
The 2D Super Mario Brothers is coming to 3DS Virtual Console next year (same as Ambassador title). Now, given that Kid Icarus NES got a 3D make over, and Kirby NES got one, i don't see why the All Stars Quadrilogy won't. Personally im more excited for LTTP 3D update, but damn it to hell if SMW doesn't get an awesome 3D release. It might just be the perfect market bumper in a year or two, when 3D Lands sales slow down.
For Platformers. I enjoyed World more, but you can make the argument for which is the better game either way. I read a lot of people asking for 'remakes of these games, but I'd rather Nintendo actually make a 2D Mario game with the kind of love (resources) they used to make these. Imagine a 2d Mario game in the vein of these classics, with the production values of say the Galaxy games?
Would make sense to release on 3DS first and then a console version to bring in the Wii U..But I doubt this will happen. Nintendo doesn't give a crap about 2d Mario anymore.
My personal favorite Mario side-scroller is Super Mario Bros. 3. I still play that game any chance I get. That said, I won't take anything away from the awesome Super Mario World.
