MediaKick's Staff Game Of The Year 2011 – #1 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

MediaKick: "What more is there to say? Naughty Dog created a title that not only wowed the staff more than any other as we declared it our Game of the Year, but swayed the public vote of our community, to see it romp home with four awards. It’s not only the Best PlayStation 3 title this year, or just the Best Action-Adventure game; Uncharted 3 brought a visual punch worthy of the Best Visual Appearance award before walking away with the top prize – the Community’s Game of the Year."

I don't think you even believe that crap.

Not seeing what the big deal is in his statement, to be honest. I agree that it's the best game this year (though not this gen), but does that make me (or you) any more correct because of a disagree? Not so.

I believe it. And I've played a shit ton of games this year. I'm starting to consider Uncharted an art-house game. It's not for everyone. The main draw of the game is its narrative. The character development is subtle. You have to dig a little. More than you would in Portal 2, but not as much as you'd have to in a game like Catherine. The setting has been inspiring to say the least upon each iteration.

There is no other franchise that has done what Uncharted has. I regard Drake's Fortune, Among Thieves, and Drake's Deception as some of the best games of all-time. Literally, they are in my Top 10, along with Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Digital Devil Saga 2, Persona 3, Mass Effect, and God of War III.

Is this the first goty Skyrim didn't win?

CGI-Quality2552d ago

No. Uncharted 3 won Cheat Code Central's and Batman?Zelda have won others. Skyrim has the most, but it's not a clean sweep (like Uncharted 2 was).

Skyrim lost a lot to Arkham City and Portal 2. UC3 is starting to win quite a bit recently. IncGamer's will likely give UC3 the nod later this week.

In other words, that is a surprisingly ignorant statement.

The only game I consider toe to toe with uc3 is my other goty Dark Souls which literally took weeks out of my life and 150 plus hours. But yeah uc3 def deserves it.

I'm sure I am going to get a lot of disagrees here but I'll say it anyway.

Firstly Uncharted 3 is a GREAT game don't get me wrong, but the first half of the game is average at best. It takes half way through the game to get good. Second half, starting from the boat yard, absolutely AWESOME!. If only the first half was like that.

Secondly, the gameplay is incredibly basic and the climbing well, very limiting. You know you're climbing the right way simply because the game limits you to climb the correct path. Theres no freedom. Very basic. Not to mention you know where to start climbing, since the game helps you out by highlighting ledges. They clearly stand out compared to the other objects.

Overall like I said a GREAT game, but overrated. The gameplay needs to improve and offer more freedom. Feels to limiting, like they are just quick time events and don't get me started on how poor the AI is.

If you take the away the awesome characters, story, amazing set pieces (second half of Uncharted 3), and give the game a name other then "Uncharted" - it would be a below average game. Gameplay is just too simple and limiting.

Of course I am going to get disagrees, in regarding the gameplay, but it's a fact.

3rd fave game this year, behind Skyrim and Deus Ex HR. Next game to play Batman AC
