A new ad in Home Media Magazine says "7 out of 10 hi-def movies sold Thanksgiving week were Blu-ray.
It may be a dirty tactic but it needed to be done. Anything to end this war faster.
Needed, and fairly well done. Simply facts, followed by a good motto "The Future is Blu." Not genius but simple, and clever.
No, it doesnt need to be done. This is why i hate the Blu-ray association and Apple. They both attack their opposition. Microsoft may do it, but not on commercials or advertisements. And Grassroots - how do you know this is simply fact? Do you have the sales figures? I sure as hell dont.
Where is the insult?? Its nothing but facts written down about blu-ray sales..Business is always rough got to step on your opponent to get to the top..and there is no lies in the advertisement.
At the rate that high-def media is selling, Blu-ray LITERALLY sold 7 out of 10 high-def titles.:)
That ad owns. Possibly the best ad I've ever seen. Plain, simple and in your face.
The ad is concise and direct to the point. Kudos to whoever thought about it.
A little desperate since the real "war" hasn't begun yet. The casual movie watcher hasn't raised their voice yet.
You got a disagree for saying the truth. Silly lemmings =')
Casual Crowd...??..umm are you talkng about ppl who like popcorn blockbusters...?..if so Blu Ray has all the best movies...Disney ,Fox..Sony..MGM..and we get all the horror movies..Lions Gate...so which will the "Casual Crowd" choose..? P.S: Warner Brothers will eventually join the Blu side...RED IS DEAD..!
You use the word desperate when the losing opponent tries silly marketing techniques like giving away movie player for free in order to gain some of the continuously losing market share. However, this article states the opposite, Blue ray is the format that has the upper hand.. Another thing, every time a company starts a new marketing technique or ad campaign some people on this site say its desperate. C'mon. This is marketing 101 you guys should know that, you don't even have to be in college to know this kind of stuff...!!!! And for the guy who said Blue ray is desperate: here is a advice, take that HD DVD player back to walmart, tell them you lost the reciept they might take it back from you.
Why would anyone return a perfectly good machine? So they could spend an extra $200 to get into a different format that still may loose or at least just coexist in the end?
No Blu Ray is telling the COLD HARD TRUTH. That they have WAY to big of a lead in the world and will win. Buy Blu Ray. HD DVD is only prolonging this mini battle.
Bluray is the only choice. My collection is growing quick this past month.
Bluray is the choice. For the poor people, theres HD-DVD & DVD.
it's more like for the poor ppl there's the : 360 HD DVD ad on..and HD DVD players...cuz I still buy DVD's and Blu Ray..!!
yes because spending extra money when you dont need to is pretty brilliant.
Well xbots like buying cheap things..lol..i wonder what other stuff they own ..they probaly got used to buying things that breaks..lol..
WTF is wrong with you ppl? Are you that much up Sony's ass? You think its a good thing that Bluray is expensive? I'm not saying HD DVD is a better format but they are pretty much the same in quality. You make me sick, you tools.
Some of the stuff that you guys (the fanboys on both sides of this little format war) come out with just makes you sound like morons, that is unless you can predict the future. Maybe try the lottery if you are really that good :-P The whole money thing, xbots like cheap stuff? [The guys saying this stuff are probably the ones about to default on their mortgages because of low interest rates climbing and the crappy American economy. Listen to these guys, buy the expensive stuff and just put it on your credit card if you don't have the money, its the American dream!] :-P The way some people post makes them sound like they think everyone and their dog has the money to drop $400+ on a player. The majority of the people that post on this site have their head screwed on tight but some of you just come out with the stupidest crap. I don't care who wins the format war, i would just like to read some intelligent posts regarding these articles. Drop the fanboyism and get a life!
7 of the 10 movies sold over thanksgiving were blu-ray? WOW this hi-def battle is HEATING UP!!!! Ya, I know what it really says, but this whole minute by minute reporting of this stupid battle that will not seem to end is getting damned old. Especially when blu-ray vs HD-DVD always ends up turning into some fanboy monkey turd slinging fight. At this point, even though I'd prefer HD-DVD I'd rather just see one format come out on top so this will finally end.
I seriously contemplated not cutting the upc outta my ps3 box for the crap a$$ selection you have to pick from. I ended up doing it and I will just trade them into blockbuster for store credit towards some decent titles. I want to get surf's up that movie is so great i gotta have the hi def version.
What's a blu-ray?
That argument is weaker than your 360's heatsink.
even weaker then the PS3 games library and online network..
@razer ur argument is weaker than M$ 1st party studios combined..!!
if bluray is winning so much then why resort to a "dirty politics" tactic such as that? If you think it makes yourself look good by trying to make others look bad, it just makes you look bad too.
needs to quit while there ahead or behind either way they need to quit because this is embarrasing.
I don't see how its embarrasing. HD-DVD is still fighting, and the format war hasn't even begun. The lower prices drop the more peopl will buy HD-DVD. Blu ray has the lead in movie sales but I think it would be very different if all movies were available on both formats. I really don't care which one wins. I have both right now, I just wish it would end soon, but I think it will be going on for at least another couple of years..
If this is an insult, then every time the NPD posts the monthly sales Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft is insulted. Please, there's nothing wrong with the ad, damn fanboys.
PS#3 has 16% video game sales Xbox 360 has 54% video game sales. Should Sony just quit? Edit : I love how fanboys disagree with facts.
Last time I checked the PS3 has been outselling the 360 worldwide for weeks now...not to mention that the 360 sales slowed a lil this year.. Sony has the PS3 , PS2 and PSP which are all doing well...so why quit..? and remember that unlike this fomat war a consle war last's for 5 years..!! @below I find it hard to believe you have a PS3...and by including the PS2 and PSP shows tht Sony won't be exiting the console industry anytime soon.....what you lack the skill of understanding what you read..? I think Blu Ray beign in the PS3 is mostly for games ..and we also have the option to watch Blu Ray movies..Sony didn't put a gun to my head and say support Blu Ray..!!
How you have to add all the gaming machines together now to get a win for the PS3. lol ahhh.. typical.. Where did you get that the PS3 is outselling the 360 worldwide?? And what does this have to do with cheezy HD format wars?? MS isn't forcing a movie format down anyones throat that's Sony business..
Now what? Whining about a commercial gets approved ? It is an advertising, for gods sake. What do you expect ?
the rebirth of those old classic "genesis does...." ads but tuned for bluray? bluray does...full hd* bluray does...50gb discs* bluray does...sony, fox, disney bluray does...bluray does...BLURAY DOES..... what hddvd don't! *although, hddvd does all that too but bluray wont say that in an ad.
sounds like a good commercial. Blu-ray does what HD-DVDon't Do want. @above, except hd sound and superior storage capacity, right?
like kicking a dead guy in the nuts...
the audio format war.... hd-radio vs ....... blu-radio.
would cheap Blu-ray players come out for the masses the month after? I don't think so. Sony needs to maintain rather high licensing fees to maintain cash flow and recoup the front end outlay of the tech. Further, they are going to have real problems when Spec 2.0 comes out. My bet is that this is much more complicated than just one die and the other pick up sales. HDTV penetration is still just not that high yet. Granted the prices are coming down to more of an afterthought. But to be truly successful (where the $$$ is!!!) they all want the average consumer....you and I are a foregone conclusion. :-) I'm sorry but we really won't matter and no matter how hard you or the next guy or I type we won't affect the outcome $$ and cents will.
of players will of course be a factor, but having two formats doesn't help either side. Also, content is king, bd has less dedicated players but more software sales, also more expensive console / players all around compared to hddvd yet still selling more. if the war were to end tomorrow not only would bluray benefit from more sales, but so would hdtv's. I also think ps3 sales would see a significant gain, this war is affecting that machine more than you think.
is pretty much existing to stalemate the hd dvd wars, do you think hddvd would have had a chance without microsoft? no. You can argue about MSoft's motives for joining hd dvd all day but at the end the fact is; MS did join hd-dvd and it wasn't cause of their stellar lineup of movie studios, it was just used to stall the war and buy them time, we are just pawns in their chess game. Oh and the war ends when Warner Bros. says it ends, and seems to be soon by the looks of it.
next gen starts when they say it starts.
Its not a dirty tactic. It simply gives the consumer facts. Loads of companies do it.
there was no insult there, unless you are an HD fanboi. Cry.
Is it not true?
Got the spiderman collection, surf's up, ratatouille, cars and die hard....I buy blu ray because I got a PS3 and it's the best deal when it comes to my needs...I want HD content and my PS3 is giving it for free without having to spend money on a standalone unit....Both formats are good but Blu ray has disney which is a big factor when it comes to family with kids
this is business and you take NO prisoners. They're only pointing out what we already know.
Blu-ray never mentions any other format (there are like 10 other formats competing (lol) you know, so hd dvd is not doing so bad). This is simply showing that Thanksgiving is a huge shopping week and consumers chose Blu-ray. Consumers purchased the movies, not you bench sitters. This is no insult.
Whoa! Only 10 High-def movies were sold Thanksgiving week? Hooray for compulsive literalism.
One week sales only and they brag. lol look what happened this week. I wonder if they will put a add saying we sold about the same against HD-DVD this week.. lol BDA, is looking more desprite to me
whatever suck our bluray balls.
