Gamer Talk.tv: Is Japan’s Game Industry Falling Behind?

We all know Japan as being responsible for some of the most memorable video games in this industry’s short history, Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Metroid, and Final Fantasy to name a few, but in the last few years there have been fewer and fewer critically acclaimed games coming out of the Land of the Rising Sun. There have been no new blockbuster successes to rival current western masterpieces like Mass Effect, Fallout, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim or even Portal, only weird and mediocre games appealing to a select few. And that, as some have pointed out, is precisely the reason they have fallen behind. Japan doesn’t aim for a global audience. It is too embedded in it’s target audience- the Japanese gamer.
