The two things that bug me the most are the sign in controllers and the format lock in, because for SOME REASON we can't upgrade our Media Center 04 to 05, so I can't stream when my friend is over.

With Banjo Kazooie 3 nowhere in sight, even the most bullish Microsoft shareholders must be asking serious questions. Specifically, about what the heads of the Xbox division think they’re doing.

Well, there you have it. It’s not a pretty picture.

3. Noise
Let’s not forget those noisy, noisy fans, firing-up as the tasks given the machine get more complex. We are constantly surprised when users tell us that they don’t notice the sound, or don’t find it an issue. Clearly they haven’t enjoyed the blissful serenity of the console’s competitors.

While the machine can, technically, play DVD movies, it’s one of the worst possible ways to do it. The noise generated can drown out the dialogue. The same is true for games, detracting massively from the whole experience.

Similar to a dripping tap, the noise of the 360 is a splinter in the mind’s eye. And nothing is worse than an itch you can never scratch.

My only concern is the crashing, the noise can be there if it wants. Why? Because i have the sound up in the game anyways! Why would i hear my console if the games sound is up? By the way, these are not things that make or break a console (with the exception of my concern). These are just nit-picky things.

Someone said earlier that they like the controller sign-in, and so do i. I also like the UI and paying for Xbox Live.

I have to agree with some of those points the article makes. The lack of an HDD in all models really hurts what developers can do with the system. They have to support the lowest common denominator, namely the Core and now the Arcade SKUs. What where they thinking when they came out with the Arcade unit, never mind the original Core? Caching data onto a hard drive was a great step forward with the original Xbox, why take that away from the newest version. And if I want to upgrade, I have to go with Microsofts versions, unlike sony where I can take pretty much any 2.5 inch drive and throw it in there (with an adaptor, any 3.5 inch drive. Hello terabye).

Yes, they are noisy, and the old ones are unreliable. How long did it take them to figure out the solder was bad, the heatsinks ineffective and the bracket holding said heatsink and GPU down to the system warped when heated? Many a dead 360 can be brought back to life when these are replaced with aftermarket parts. Even the aftermarket guys figured it out first. Jeeze.

Over a hundred dollars for the Wi-Fi dongle. Even the used to be cheap (though now overpriced) Wii has built in WiFi, and don't tell me it costs Nintendo 100 dollars to implement that feature on every Wii. I'll just stay wired thank you.

And no, I will not pay money for crappy looking gamer pics and themes. Those should come free with the 50-70 dollar game. Or at least as a free download or something.

Some of the other stuff, I think it's just fanboy ripping on the 360. The menus are fine, don't give me that bull crap. And you don't need to buy faceplates, so who cares. And you don't need Windows Media center to steam media to the 360. All you need in Windows Media Player 11, which is free. Get your facts straight. And it streams a fair number of video formats now too.

Anyway, it still has the best and most games, hands down.

- The 360 at launch were loud, that time is long gone. The new models with all the new guts are very quite. But then again, I will take a little bit of spin up noise for nice fast game loads.

I really am sick of the thumbstick placement on the duoshock. I have never liked it. I MUCH prefer the weight and thumb stick position of the 360 contoller. I also rather the feel of the triggers.

My friends B Day party, we had ten controllers and 3 xbox 360's in a system link party in one room. When we turned off the consoles, the next morning when nobody knew where the controller was, we had to spend ten minutes signing out, signing in, messing with it, finding the signed in controller, and more. It's a pain when all you have to do on the PS3 is press the middle button.

1. XBL ( it is a killer online experience and is well worth the low cost of $50 for 13 months. Most of us can afford the $4 per month)

2. KILLER LIST OF GAMES (exclusive and not exclusive)

3. I use mine as a media hub and especially now with the new update I love it even more.

4. Most of my buds have a 360 and XBL .... "FOR ME" that is huge. You may not have that same case.

5. XBL Arcade is fantastic to get my wife involved since she is not into the more complex games.

6. Demos up to ying yang. Nice to try before I buy. Having been in on the COD4 beta which only XBL and PC offered.

7. If you are in the USA, you can download tons and tons of free HD TV shows. Look into the media blade.

8. I love being able to talk to my MSN contacts with my 360.

9. I love being able to have private chats while playing games. Also having multi chat channels to switch from.

... the list goes on.

Some things I mentioned also applies to the PS3, however, I would not see a point in selling one to get another when you are getting very similar features.

As i said, BOTH are great machines. I just am not sure with what you described, you would find what you want with one more than the other.

10. I love the fact I can play well into the hundreds of original xbox games. But the best part is I can play with them on live as well. And If I play an original xbox game on my 360, as long as my buds have the same game, even if he is on an original xbox, we can still play on XBL together.

The one thing i can't understand is why people take time to tear things apart until they're completely unenjoyable. To me, i don't classify these people as true gamers. Instead of sitting down, actually playing games and enjoying the new generation of gaming that we have, these guys make time to tell everybody that everything's wrong with everything. I personally still have a launch 360 that's never had an issue. I will admit to the system being a little noisy; but lets face it, when you have a nice home theatre set-up, i hear enough gunfire, explosions, and killswitch engage to drown out any buzz(even the woman telling me to come to bed).

Lag with the guide menu and freezing with it as well. Even after the fall update I still find myself turning the system off because it freezes when I'm trying to load up my friends list or access something else from the guide. Another scenario is when I'm playing UMK3 and it freezes for over 2 minutes or more when I'm searching for a game and I have to wait or turn the system off. I also lose sync with the console when I'm playing BioShock. Anyone else have that problem? Or is it the game?

Yes the guide is faster but today when I was looking at my friends list it frozed and I had to shut down the system again.

Oh yeah and with BioShock when ever my guy would die and I would get teleported back to that thing my guy would come out just shooting and going in circles my its self for like 3 seconds. I have had the same problem with the PS3 controller as well and it seems like interference with the 360 as well but it only happens in BioShock.

It is very easy to slave a controller to what ever 360 you want to play on and your gamer tag ins't attached to a controller. It's on whatever console you last left it on. Attaching a controller to a 360 console is easy.

I dont think the comment about signing in with the controllers is fair because you have to do that with any console's wireless controller. With the PS3 you have to actually connect a new controller via the usb wire or it wont get recognised.

now before you guys jump on me, i don't mean because of the space on the disk (even though that can be argued).

i mean because of how easy it is to bootleg games for it. if they used HD DVD or Bluray it wouldn't have completly stopped this problem forever, but it could have bought them some time before all their games got pirated.

Lets face it. The 360 has alot of issues. But in my opinion the worst decision they made way before it came out was the decision to not include a hard drive in every 360 when the original had one. This is a decision that they are going to have to just live with until the next Xbox. They can correct the other issues in the future but they should of addressed the storage issue before launch. I have a Ps3 and 360 and it is nice to play a game all the way through on the PS3 with no loading screens at all because the files are cached on the hard drive. I wish Microsoft would also do it but that means if you have a core 360 with no drive you cannot play the game. Bummer...

i've had 3 rrod failures and one dvd drive failure on pro 360's, but my mates have had none whatsoever.I do resent the whole paying for themes thing, but i've gotten a few ltd edition games which have them thrown in, so never buy them. Faceplates? Screw that - my elite looks smart alongside all my other black A/V kit and i dont want to make it look like a kids toy. The menu system, as much as its not quite as smart as the xmb (i sometimes think it looks a bit like a fisher price toy) is very easy to use, and after the recent update, lightning quick. I certainly dont like the external power brick - thats infuriating as it just clutters up my a/v racking. To be honest tho, as games consoles go, can't say i've been a lot happier. I never use it as a dvd player (i always buy a standalone dvd - its just a habit) so that doesnt really bother me. Also reckon they should fit built-in wifi, at least to the elite (if not all models) but i prefer wired anyway as its just inherently more stable.

The no hard drive thing (as much as i've not experienced it) is a bit of a drag, but i dont see why games companies cant just make a hdd mandatory for their games and clearly say so on the packaging...

compared to other systems, MS is doing really well. Sony has always been the number 1 what comes to popularity or at least expectations. Currently 360 is wiping tables with PS3, yep a hard fact, but true. Wii seems to play with "hard to get" status and it seems to work. If it is as good as media makes it feel like, dunno.

Anyhow, Xbox360 is doing damn fine, it has great games, huge user base and so far the future looks more than promising. Of course RROD is damn evil mark on xbox360, but it does not seem to matter and is pretty much fixed I guess.

So, there's 10 things (I know there's more) that MS does wrong with 360, but I really wonder how many wrong things there are with PS3 then ;) ...maybe less but surely worse than RROD it seems.

The UI IS vulgar, the 360 dashboard looks like a dog munched on a packet of crayons and vomited on the screen. I don't trust people on here who say the PS3 UI doesn't look as good because those people don't have an eye for design.

Unfortunately I agree for the most part with the article. I just really can't take the hardware failures, increasing scrooginess of XBL, and the GESTAPO-esqu mentality that Microsoft enforces over it's products anymore.

Anyway, im realy happy with my Xbox 360, loads of great games with great hardware now the technical issues have been ironed out. I cant really relate to people attacking the console for it being loud etc. This, along with a few others, really arent issues and it only makes me switch off from any valid points. Im all for criticism; from my point of view, itll make Microsoft strive to take the comments on board and produce an even better system next generation. It cost $80 for 1 year of XBL in Australia because their dollar is worth less than the american dollar. Depending on where you live in the world pricing may be different due to the currency of that region.Australias dollar is usually around 85 cents Canadian.

In Canada we used to pay more here than in the USA, but because our dollar is worth more than the American dollar Sony made all of their pricing equal accross North America. Sony is the first International company to recognise the value of the Canadian Dollar and to be fair they lowered the prices to be equal with the USA.

Microsoft has not made Canadian prices equal to American prices which on top of all of the other problems the XBOX 360 has, is another reason for Canadians at least, not to buy a 360.

I wouldn't mind having a Wii or a 360 but honestly I don't have the time to play anymore, I mean my PSP is dusty right now because I have been playing so much COD:4. If people want to play other consoles then let them play and be happy with what you play. If the people here played games as much as they bash they might be #1 at what ever game they are playing.
