In a word, "YES". Here is my take on the game:

TBM2346d ago

its my personal goty.

NewMonday2346d ago

my personal special game is Catherine, you have to be at a certain part in your life to really appreciate it.

but this year all around i think of it as a tie between:
Portal 2
Zelda SWS
Batman AC
Skyrim(PC only)

VIGGO-OG2346d ago

In a word, "NO". I think Skyrim earned it

Do you feel Arkham City Should have been Game of The Year?

Tanir2347d ago

exactly, I think the game was overhyped, but for the people who loved it why should it matter to them if Batman won on a website? aslong as it was your personal favorite then who cares.

Batman is on the bottom of my list of all ggames played, so much so i couldnt bare to beat it. but again thats opinion.

My GOTY is Dark Souls

Outside_ofthe_Box2347d ago (Edited 2347d ago )

Yeah, Batman: Arkham City is not Game of the Year in my book, but I do believe it is worthy of being nominated.

I personally don't think it's over hyped at all. It's the best superhero game to date in my opinion and all other superhero games should use B:AC as the archetype for superhero games.

I can totally understand why some people might not like it. The combat might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it suits the game perfectly when consider the fact that you are playing as BATMAN.

NCAzrael2346d ago

Meh, I'm perfectly fine with Skyrim winning GOTY. Granted, it doesn't really matter, since it all comes down to everyone's individual opinions anyways, but for me Skyrim was the best game I've played this year. With the exception of dragons obviously being terrified of me, as well as the bookcase thing after the 1.2 patch, I haven't had any real issues with the game.

Aside from Skyrim I'd have to say Battlefield 3 has been my most enjoyed game. Batman is great so far (haven't finished it yet) and I'm really looking forward to playing the new Assassin's Creed, but I don't feel that anything else I've played this year comes close to the scope and immersion I get with Skyrim, despite it's flaws.

DaReapa2346d ago

I thought I was the only one to think that. I got the game as a fill-in as part of a B2G1F deal at Target (mostly based on the praise and hype). I understand that many like it, but I feel that freebie could've been put to better use. It's just not doing it for me.

Nevers2345d ago

Dark Souls for me with Skyrim as runner up... but then again... I've not had the moneeez to buy myself Batman: AC... loved Batman: AA though.

I agree, my game of the year is always the one I've spent the most time playing, so this year it's Forza 4.
I played through the story in AC but had no desire to go back and finish the game, I've always hated the combat, to me it's the least appealing aspect of the game.

am i the only one who preferred arkham asylum over city. city was beast but asylum had a better story, better structure to the game and the boss' were better as well. plus the riddles were a lot more fun to find out and there was a lot more backstory to the story and enemies

KUV19772347d ago (Edited 2347d ago )

I also liked Asylum a lot more. The story and gameplay was tight. In City you always need to traverse the city for ages on end to get to the next part of the story and the city is just as dull as the gliding and grappling through it.
I finished Asylum and platinumed it, because I really loved it. Some of the challenges were really hard but i so wanted the platinum. In City I was just glad that the story - which was good - was over and I could stop the glide-grapple-glide-grapple-wa lk-climb-glide-grapple-annoyanc e.
Also Batman has technology that would get the NASA jealous, but it is not possible to A) have more than one objective in his hud, meaning you have to open up the map for anything you want to do, no matter how small the thing and B) the HUD is not available in detective mode at all, as well as indoors, even though every little item is on the map anyway.
In my opinion it was a huge mistake to turn the game into open world. But most people love it, so i am a little sad and not really looking forward to a third part.

RedHotChiliPepaSpray2346d ago

i also really loved the asylum a lot better than the city. everywhere you go in city feels the same but in asylum there are different settings like the sewers, the gardens etc.

the boss' like scarecrow, croc, bane, ivy felt much better than having a bunch of enemys thrown in for short periods like in city.

the open world in city looks great and it captures the atmosphere brilliantly but there wasnt much reason to explore apart from some riddles which i felt were not as fun. i think rocksteady felt the need to make the setting bigger just for the sake of it and i dont think it worked as well as the setting in asylum

overall i thought it was a great game and worthy of a GOTY nomination but given the choice i would take Asylum > City anyday

Dazel2347d ago

Still got things to do in Arkham City, so much so my Skyrim is still sealed. At present id say Batman should defo be goty, things my change by next year though.

Motorola2347d ago

If it's still sealed then how could you say one is better than the other?

Cosmit2346d ago

@ Motorola

He didn't say one is better then the other. He just said at present. And his opinion might change.
