How much did you spend on video games this year?
about $300 ... next year im waiting on mass effect 3 hitman hopefully gta5 and borderlands 2 so i think 300 each year is enough for me once i have the platinum i sell them or change them for another game to my friends ...$5,705 sounds crazy
I'm thinking less than $300 myself this year as well. The least I have spent in a long time because of other financial obligations I acquired this year. I used to keep a spreadsheet for this generation, and it was around $4000 total back then, and I'm probably closer to $5000 now. That's lifetime this generation. That's a lot of dough.... let alone for one year. Even more crazy is 1200 hours playing games and that is only one platform. That's on average 3+ hours a day.
As someone who isnt fortunate enough to spend couple hundred dollars a year on video games, i have to sell/trade games to get new ones. With this recent online pass crap, its becoming harder for me to get new games. Hand it to sony and EA for starting this online pass crap and hurting the lower budget gamers.
then again it can be done on a budget. Among the bills and expenses for the family and home I still muster up some spare change to get a game here and there. I have to say though, I have taken advantage of the used market more so this gen than the last or any prior (buy 2 get 1 free). Maybe thats because there has been such emphasis on the used market where as before it was a little hole in the wall place that traded games. Now its a way of life for some. If I had to try and tabulate my overall expense into gaming...it goes back to the days of the 2600 (which I still have) and progressed from there. I cant think of all that $$$$ that could have been spent elsewhere but if I had to do it over again I would probably leave out the jaguar and 3do systems. I will venture a guess and say its somewhere in the double digits maybe tipping the triple mark. I must admit though, i have a star wars collection that is just as expensive. Some call it a waste i call it an investment.
I usually don't spend too much since I get most games used or from friends unless they have the name "Halo" "Gears of War" or "Elder Scrolls" in the title, in which case I get them brand spanking new. I did buy myself a PS3 this year though so that brought my average up significantly.
an easy $1000 give or take.
Counting a few pieces of hardware, such as the new PS3 Wireless headset, new 42in 3D plasma for a monitor, and the Gears 360 I hit just over $5200 total.
This year I've only spent about $275. Killzone 3 Infamous 2 Uncharted 3 Elder Scrolls 5 Star Wars Force Unleashed II (used) Next year will be much, Much, MUCH worse. Of the top of my head. Final Fantasy 13-2 Soul Calibur 5 Dead or Alive 5 Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Ninja Gaiden 3 Metal Gear Solid..err...Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance All these are guaranteed purchases for me. Then there are the other games that I have been anticipating with less concrete but still possible due dates. The Last Guardian The Last of Us FFvsXII And I'm sure there are a lot of other games that I can't recall right now.
what the hell?! The guy bought more than 300 games in just one year?! 0-O
I just spent about 750$ on a Fanatec racing wheel, stand, shifter, and pedal set with clutch. Money well spent.
games alone ?
Prob around $400 - $500
I bought a wheel and a xbox and kinect so in all about 900.
Without gamefly and .coughcoughcoughpiratingcoughc oughthesimsexpansionpackscough c oughandother pc gamescoughcoughcough. I would be over the 1k mark
I wonder how much i spent on clothes and shoes this year .. dear god.
you sir, have a cold :D
I'm trying to figure out how you spend that much money on video games. I buy a ton of games and I still spent less than $2k this year. That's with the KZ3, Infamous 2, and U3 CEs as well as more than a few limited editions. That also includes my PSN purchases (though, they were mostly 20-70% off).
This. I buy a lot of games, collectors editions and etc. I've probably spent in the 2200 range, and that pretty much picking up every major release on every platform. The guy in the article is defiantly doing something wrong.
"The guy in the article is defiantly doing something wrong. " Yes he certainly is. He bought 148 PC games this year and played for 52 hours, just over 21 minutes per game. He spent over $15/hour for PC gaming. On the PS3 he's at $6.35/hour, Xbox $3.38/hour and $0.61/hour on mobile. He seems to be buying for the sake of buying, not to actually play.
$5705?!? I think who ever wrote that is lying. You would basically have to buy a new game every 3-4 days. If your counting TVs and Stereo systems sure, games..no way.
I do buy a new game every few days. I hate buying used games, especially if they are from Gamestop for I like to support the developers for the work they have done. All the games I do buy I play. I don't have many expenses throughout the year so I can afford to put money into gaming. My wife doesn't like it, though...
It wouldn't be so difficult, you could buy game every day and still wouldn't be able to buy nearly every game. And most games can be played through within 4-5 hours, shortest games in less than 2 hours (especially if count DLC but even some full games are so short) if you are good gamer. So you can even play through all those games if you only have time (and money). You only need relatively good income to use that much money. A lot of people with mediocre (or even low) income use more on cars every year while there are rich people who don't even have a car. Remember, thousands of games are released every year even if you only count full-priced games. So even $5705 will only get you very small portion of the games.
I personally spent probably in the ballpark of.......$600 on games. Would've been far* less if I'd have figured out that I could get 3 months of Gamefly for about $18. Did that twice so first half of the year was $560 and second half was about $40. And I played more games the second half than I did the first half. If anyone cares to know how to get it for $18 (it's a legit trick you gotta do), pm me. I'd be glad to help out.
Money well spent, sir.
I've spent 64.48 cent on ONE!! game this year,
other bills more important.
DINNER DATE ETC....
You may have 1 bubble but at least you have your priorities straight. Cheers to that.
i spent a fraction of that..or people or saying I rented everything...only purchased Skyrim this whole year..LoveFilm is awesome.
I only game on my PS3 (<---- Sony fanboy) and I spent like 250 this year, LBP2, Uncharted, BF3, next year will be crazy, The Last Of Us, StarHawk and others, LONG LIVE TEH GAMINGZORZ
Rule #1 Don't buy games day one, prices drop mere months after a release. Rule #2 Enjoy the games that you already have, or if you're a ps3 gamer like me, there are alot of free options. (If you have problems doing said rules, then there is more likely a bigger problem at hand. You probably need therapy, and need to find another hobby.)
Wow... I'm still below 2000. Would have been lower, but... ya know... eBay...
I've spent about 400 I got LBP2(Special with the plush :P), Portal 2, Tekken 6, Sims 3 collection (Steam bundle deal), Uncharted 3 and Skyrim I think thats it..
I spent about 4000 with all the pre-order for next year included the psvita with games is like 600, and thats what i can remember it maybe more than 5000 but whatever.
It has nothing to do with, "T&A,Gore, or cursing" (those games are just mature themed titles).
I don't have a clue lol I just know I bought a lot of games. I'm pretty sure this year so far I've bought: Little Big Planet 2 Killzone 3 Castlevania Lords of Shadow Resident Evil 5 Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition Cosmo Black 3DS Console Ocarina of Time 3D LA Noire Alice Madness Returns Fable III Modern Warfare 2 Batman Arkham Asylum Forza 3 Muramasa: Demon Blade Dissida 012 Duodecim Persona 3 Portable Agarest Zero Arcana Heart 3 Rayman 3D Rabbids 3D Dark Souls Uncharted 3 Sonic Generations Gears of War 3 Batman Arkham City Battlefield 3 Disgaea 4 Super Mario 3D Land Mario Kart 7 Tales of Abyss 3D Eternal Sonata Ar Tonelico Qoga Super Mario Galaxy 2 Skyward Sword And I've been given Skyrim as an early christmas present. Not played it yet though. It's been a good year for gaming. Not sure how all of that comes to as some where old games from 2009-2010 that I bought at discount price.
OMG dude. I felt guilty for buying the 10 or so 15 or so games throughout the year. I prob spent about 500 this year. Thanks you made me feel better lol.
Why the disagrees?, people mad you got so many games?
I've pretty much gotten like $400 dollars of free steam games from trading TF2 items Best idea ever valve, thanks. Only game I paid money for all year was Human Revolution.
I was pretty tight on money this year so I bought Uncharted 3: Collector's Edition and Battlefield 3: Limited Edition for my PS3. $180 I'm saving up for my PC rig and entertainment set up. :/
If u need pc advice message me. Mine was 800 (Canadian $) and I max bf3 at 60fps at 1080p. (80fps with SMAA). :)
I have plenty of help from friends. Thank you for the offer though. :)
Lolwut? Why'd I get a disagree
Just a small reminder... Most PC monitors can't even in theory show more than 60 fps. And even most of those monitors who claim to be 120 fps don't actually show more actual frames because the connection can only deliver 60 fps signal. Yes, those monitors shows 120 fps but it is using artificial frames just like TV's. Remember, none of the movies made for theaters are more than 24 fps. Not even Avatar.
Not sure how much I've spent but I've saved 100s thanks to CheapAssGamer :D
Never heard of them. I need to look that up =D
I'd guess about $AU1500. No hardware.
3D Dot Game Heroes - $30 Arkham City - $80 Battlefield 3 - $80 Catherine - $60 Fallout NV - $80 LBP2 - $70 MvC3 - $80 Mass Effect 2 - $30 MK vs DC Universe - $30 Portal 2 - $90 Saints Row 3rd - $90 Socom 4 - $70 Skyrim - $90 Uncharted 3 - $90 Just under a grand. Games in Aus are too expensive.
Can't you just import from elsewhere? PS3 is region unlocked.
ozgameshop.com for Australia and nzgameshop.com for New Zealand.
The ones that I got dirt cheap are imported. The rest I bought day 1 though, cause I couldn't wait to play them.
Steam FTW. Spent maybe 500 and got every big release and well almost everything this year lol. Can't wait for rising. Halo4. Last of us. Diablo. Heart of the swarm. Etc. I'm an everything gamer so bring them games ON!!!
$0 I pirated everything. /trollface Just kidding. I haven't done the total yet because I'll still be brutalizing my wallet during the winter, but I think it's only ~$500. Mostly due to digital sales and savings from GMG. I still haven't had time to play all the games I've bought. =/
Probably around 600 or 700 CAD.
This year i spent less than ever as i dont think much was worth the full price plus im saving for a new pc the consoles are just verging on geriatric status that said i still had fun with friends online.
Around $500 this year, wimped out this time. I buy my games new so I don't have as many games as most other gamers out there. But I'm 25 now and have a job and still gaming and having an income. Damn prob will game until I'm a grandpa lmao. For everyone out there try to support developers as much as possible. I think that there are to many games coming out imo. Have a steady flow and put more spazz in each release. If only games were easy to make by one person we could all be making games and sharing our created worlds with each other. Somewhat like the older days of gaming.
i think roughley 4 grand nearly australian i brought killzone 3 lbp2 marvel vs capcom ultimate marvel vs capcom3 sonic generations singstar dance singstar guitar super street fighter 4 arcade ed mortal kombat 9 wwe 12 neeed for speed the run yakuza 4 uncharted 3 infamous 2 tekken hybrid baze blue cont shift time crysis razing strom la noire to many to list
Where in the heck do you did you find the time and money to do all this? I have played maybe 75 games this gen for pc, wii, 360, 3DS, and PS3, and maybe half of them were gifts. I buy like 5 games a year for myself, the rest is presents and such. Even if I had the money I wouldn't have the time withi school and a full time job. 2011: Sonic Colors No more Heroes 2 Bought a 3DS with Ocarina of Time 3D Pokemon Black Dragon Age GTA IV Assassins Creed Brotherhood (Gift) Mortal Kombat (Gift) Bought a 160gb PS3 Slim Uncharted 1 Uncharted 2 God of War 1-3 Final Fantasy XIII Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Kirby return to dreamland Skyrim (Returned it) Still under $1000 lol 2012: Mass Effect 3 Final Fantasy XIII-2 The Last of Us Wii U
Let's see, I bought a new: Wii Xbox 360/Kinect Dragon Age 2 Portal 2 LA Noire BulletStorm Brink Gears Of War 3 Modern Warfare 3 Gunstringer Kinect Sports 2 Dance Central 2 Rise Of Nightmares Fruit Ninja Kinect Child Of Eden Rage Halo CEA Forza 4 Arkham City Assassins Creed Revelations Madden 12 I bought used: Killzone 3 The Darkness Madden 11 Metroid Prime 3 MadWorld and a bunch of other games I cant remember, I also got like 5 free games from Sony for that hacked PSN business, I have like 10 PSN accounts and since some were Jap and some were British and some American I was able to get all the free content! So I didn't spend 5 grand this year, I still spent a ton.
Unless your 12, I wouldnt admit to buying a Wii, just saying
I guess 90+ million kids under 12 have bought one then /s The Wii is fun and it's a console in this generation, so I bought my 2nd one, since my first broke. I also bought the new Zelda recently which is AMAZING.
Thanks to Gamefly, probably no more than 300 dollars.
I don't remember everything that I bought this year.
Below $1000 but definitely over $500. I say around $680 would be a good estimate.
Did a rough count and I guess a spent about $300 this year. However,I also built a new PC this year costing me about $800.
The guy is pissed because the amount he's spent in games could buy a half-decent used car? Or is it the fact that he hasn't even played most of the games he's bought? Either way, that's pretty overboard.
$300 approx here. I don't buy many games, but when I do it's the collector's editions usually, since I like stuff like artbooks and figurines. Next year is shaping up to be another rape on my poor uni wallet. Need a new job >_>
probly a little under a grand, bought all my games from amazon for less that full price.
I think I spent around $100 on videogames this year. Most of that is Battlefield 3, the rest is stuff from Steam sales.
$500-$600 at least for me.
my 3930 intel build alone was 1800...and ive played most popular titles...about 1 game a month...and im ready to stick another 450 in a 3d package. next year :)
I can't even list the games that I bought this year. Too many to list. I am a smart shopper so I got my money's worth. I purchased every game that mattered this year and then some
That's exactly what I do. I use amazon credit, buy from ebay, etc. I just love the feeling of opening a new game =)
People buy too many crappy games, I only buy 2-4 games a year.
