"Year to Date"

But the year is not over. And December makes up a big chunk of yearly sales.

blaaah2362d ago

YTD is not the same as end of the year sales... Anyway, DS and Wii have totally dominated dominated this generation, reducing the previous generation leader (Sony) to last place dust.

evilunklebud2362d ago

So far.... lets see the numbers in a few years when this generation is over.

WooHooAlex2362d ago

Last place dust?
Its going to be a tight battle for 2nd place, I wouldn't exactly call them last place dust.

lumley666 is not trolling, WTH?

SilentNegotiator2362d ago (Edited 2362d ago )

YTD means "Year to Date"......the year so far up to the current date. So the year does not have to be over.

"reducing the previous generation leader (Sony) to last place dust"
Gotta love how crap like this is never marked as trolling.

I'm surprised that the ps3 is that far behind the 360 in the US and yet still outselling it by almost a million in WW YTD sales. Just goes to show you that while the US is an important chunk, it does mean anything certain. MS better step their game up on selling to other regions.

I didnt realize the wii install base is double the PS3. I knew the wii was a huge seller in the US. The 360 leads the PS3 by 11 million units sold.

Yeah the US does not equal the world but it does equal the single largest consumer territory for video games.

The Wii is the real leader and neither looks poised to surpass it anytime soon. Unless of course, you count the DS but it is still a Nintendo dominated generation.

All 3 companies have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be proud of.

Dante1122362d ago (Edited 2362d ago )

I wonder if the PS3 will outsell the 360 and Wii WW again like last year despite the 360 doing 2 million in Nov/Dec?

Edit: For the future disagrees

darthv722362d ago (Edited 2362d ago )

that would not surprise me. Then again, wouldnt that comment be better suited for a WW numbers story?

Since you threw it out there. It takes the combined sales of the rest of the world to try and negate the numbers a single country is capable of.

I didnt disagree with you by the way.

Agreed that the Wii has sold the most hardware this generation...but if you look at the software sales of the Wii... I am pretty sure it is not doing all that well.

This is the weekly software totals world wide for last week according to vgchartz (yes i know its not 100% reliable but its fine for this comparison)
X360 7,372,192 (-35%) N/A
PS3 6,194,229 (-31%) N/A
Wii 3,939,900 (+25%) N/A

Based on those numbers... I have a very different view of the Wii... I would suggest as a software selling / money making platform it is the least successful given "software" has always been the primary revenue source when it comes to consoles and it clearly is not performing as well.

Titanz2362d ago

The Wii (and DS) is heavily affected by piracy.

750K.... just a wild shot. ; )

user8586212362d ago

Really wana see 3DS sales after Mario 3DS release and Black Friday :P

Dlacy13g2362d ago

Interesting numbers. I actually am surprised the Wii has done as much as it has so far this year. Every month (except Black Friday) they have been struggling in NPD sales...

kneon2362d ago

Don't forget is that for November and December the primary purchasers of consoles is going to be parents, grandparents etc. where price is the big determining factor in a purchase decision. And with the Wii selling for peanuts these days it should do well this holiday season.
