IGN - Which is the Best Mario Kart Ever?

IGN - Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS marks the (you guessed it) seventh entry in the Mario Kart series, which has been providing gamers with kart-racing goodness for nearly two decades now. In celebration, IGN Nintendo has decided to hand out seven awards in honor of the plumber's latest racer (check out our review of Mario Kart 7 if you haven't already). We're honoring the best items, tracks, multiplayer, single-player and more, as well as the very best in show. (3DS, GameCube, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Nintendo DS, Wii)

Haven't played mario kart since my N64 days....weird.

Mario Kart 64 trumps every Mario Kart since. Hands down

i disagreed.

Double Dash was ahead of its time.

-Best specials
-u can obtain two power ups
-best rainbow stage
-best music
-system link
-2players on both seperate and same carts
-frantic mode

Looking at the comment most agree MK64 was the best but its kinda sad , wasnt that the 3rd mario kart and that benchmark has yet to be passed... but they may do it with 7 just like they did with Zelda Skyward Sword

The first one on SNES. Well thats the only one that I owned, but the n64 one was alot of fun too.

MK64 was my favorite. I really want to play MK7 though. It looks like a lot of fun.

Double Dash and MK64. I didn't like the MK DS because I love playing Mario Kart with friends on a TV

MK on the wii was the worst imo, way too unbalanced. My favorite ones were double dash and ds.

I have such a soft-spot for Mario Kart 64. So many hours spent racing against family and friends.

Mario kart 64. Between that and goldeneye myself and the group of my friends in the neighborhood when we were kids used to play both games with split screen almost daily. Oh the good ole days.
despair  +   1232d ago
ahh split screen...4 player mario kart and Star Fox on a 19" sharp tv...damn that was some good times.

For me it's MK64, followed by the DS version. The DS version was surprisingly balanced and solid in almost every aspect.

I can't honestly judge if Mario Kart 64 was the best one, but all I remember is being so immersed in the graphics and playing with 3 of my friends. Life was carefree those days. Mario Kart, Waverace and GoldenEye, we just played all day.

Mario Kart 64

Can't touch Mario Kart 64. Damn good times with that game when I was younger. I remember laughing so much while playing. Mostly because of the characters' funny expressions when they're hit.

Like Wario's screaming "WAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!! " as I shoot his ass off a cliff XD

Mario Kart 64.....I have so many memories in that game. Me and one of my friends still play it often. =)

I never played the SNES original, so my runner ups would be:
Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart Wii was just crap.

MKDS even though snakers ruined the online aspect.

The "Missions" component just put that MK on a level above every other MK for me. Plus, the blue shell isn't anywhere near as annoying.

I think I like Mario Kart: Double Dash the best. Mario Kart DS had great karts. MK7 doesn't look as good.
LoaMcLoa  +   1231d ago
Mario Kart 64, Double Dash and DS are the best!

Mario kart 64 was the best. Wario stadium is still my fave course to date. Nothing more exciting than getting lighting in that level haha and the shortcuts in that game actually took some skill. Just an overall awesome game, the second best would probably be double dash. I enjoy the wii version with friends but online is annoying.
