Sonic’s Road to Redemption: Picking Up the Pieces

SEGAbits: "In February 2007, Sonic the Hedgehog was still fresh in the memories of Sonic fans. Yet they already had a new game to play in the form of the Wii exclusive Sonic and the Secret Rings. Secret Rings was a radically different kind of Sonic game, featuring on-rails play and a heavy emphasis on motion controls. Secret Rings had been championed the previous year by journalists as a Sonic game that was actually good, that took a radically different approach to the formula to solve the franchise’s problems. What gamers actually got was a mixed bag of great and poor design decisions that was still a huge step up from Sonic 06, and would start Sonic on his slow, winding road to recovery." (Nintendo DS, Sonic Team, Wii)

SEGA just look at Rayman Origins a true 2D oldschool platformer learn with that.

Its really nice to see these colorfull games.

If they could make a sonic game on par with rayman origins, that would be amazing.

Don't get why everyone wants 2D sonic...maybe it's cause my first sonic game was adventure 1 followed by 2 but if its based off of which ever you started with, then its personal preference. I liked the Modern parts in Sonic Generations WAY more than the 2D parts. The Modern parts feels more like Sonic, who is suppose to be fast.

I'm a huge retro fan and I have to agree. I reviewed it and enjoyed it. But I was shocked at how much I liked Modern Sonic (outside of Planet of the Wisps level). Modern Sonic in itself has been pretty much perfected outside of little things that I hate. (like homing being its own button. I'm used to double taping jump!)

I played Rayman and Sonic will never be like this due to what Sonic is. Its hard to make a Sonic game, the speed aspect is what kills it. Its hard for gamers to know when to go 'fast' and when to platform. I think Generations did a pretty good job! You should try it.

Though I agree, Rayman is great. I wish Sonic Team would bring back Ristar in the same vein as Rayman Origins!

Um...actually in Sonic Generations homing IS double tapping jump...lol
