Who says the average Joe is powerless against "the man"? From the article: "And now, a cry that could end up hurting Gamespot even more than any of the above. A boycott is being organized, a very, VERY creative boycott."
gamespot might have a little issue on their hands. i have heard a pretty good amount of people saying they are canceling their accounts.
if people don't visit their website, advertisers won't spend money on it. its the best way people can damage GS at the moment.
Wow, geek power. Um...its not going to work. How long is this 'boycott' going to last? 2-3 weeks? IMO, Gamers aren't disciplined enough to boycott advertisers for longer than 2-3 weeks. There has never been a documented case of it happening before (unless someone can give me proof that I'm wrong) and I don't think it will happen here. Nice try but this is America. Capitalism rules (and don't give me that freedom of speech crap because it doesn't apply when a person, like Jeff Gerstmann, is a member of a private corporation writing on a private website).
Just casually glancing over Gamespot's website, these geeks are actually trying to boycott these corporations? -Dell -Best Buy -Mountain Dew -Toshiba OMG, they have almost no chance at suceeding (maybe with the exception of Mountain Dew). Dell and Best Buy are going to see the normal increase in holiday sales regardless of whether this 'boycott' is implemented or not. Good luck geeks.
yeah boycotting those other companies isn't going to do much considering they appeal not only to gamers but other people as well, but gamespot might be screwed. Even if they try to reinvent themselves. The thing is now that gamespot has now been targeted the enemy, gamers might never trust them again. One thing gamers do well(fanboys mostly) is hold grudges. Also this seems to be an extremely big event in the videogame industry.
Mountain dew is owned by pepsi co., so if any of these people/geeks drink pepsi or any pepsi product, then they'll be the one suffering. People are taking this way out of porportion, all the advertisers on the GS webpage has many more sources, GS is just a tiny itty bitty fraction.
they are not trying to go after those big companies they are just trying to get them to stop advertising on gamespot.. they may succeed in that sense.
Do they really think the Advitisers care?, they couldn't care Less about some group that is disappointed at GS, as some people said, they should take all this energy and use it for a much better cause for all of us.
I bet he wasn't even fired for that reason but with the way they are acting and not giving anyone a straight answer it won't be long before they are doomed. Digging a big hole and then engraving the letters on your own tombstone sure seems dumb to me
LOL! talking about team work! http://www.gamespot.com/pc/... http://www.gamespot.com/xbo... http://www.gamespot.com/ps3...
haha I just noticed that you cant submit a review for the game, hmm I wonder why.. lol.
See? All it takes is a common enemy (or a giant crowd of angry peeps) to unite people. lol.
"Kingfire11 "Boring" I'd rather have sex with my dog"
lmao good find. depends on what kinda dog im sure :P
If only people would get this fired up about the real issues affecting the world right now and get involved similarly, things would be alot better. But no... Only a subject involving entertainment sets people off...
that was poetic.
Down with the Demon.
To a reviewer that is not resonable with their scores.
I have been boycotting this website for almost two years now. So I am up for anything against this website
....now does anyone know where one can go to flood the recommend box and get gamespot kicked off of metacritic?? start thinking what else can be done......we need to send a message that wakes people up!!! the review industry is corrupt and it only started with gamespot...
gamespot and meta are both owned by the same company, good luck geek.
I used to visit Gamespot every day. I've only visited once since the news broke and that was to look for the video review(which was pulled). I haven't gone back since and I don't want to go there anymore... ...too bad Gerstmann probably signed an NDA; I'd like to hear what he has to say.
shut down gamespot its the only way to save the gaming community..
for a moment I though Sony+Droids were using this for their shortcomings. Thanks for clearing this up. Now let's "save the gaming community". LMAO
Ever notice it's always prodominate Microsoft 3rd party partnes that Gamespot always puts the go deep gloves on for?? I hate Assassins Creed and tell everyone who comes into my store asking about it what I think about it and then reccomend something else. I do the same with Kane and Lynch and several other games... Gamespot crossed the line long ago and now they're paying for it. Simple as that. I hope they belly up and expose Microsoft while they're at it. Cnet and Microsoft are lovers. Gamespot is the pivot man.
from psxextreme, to the perfect reviews of tony hawk pro skaters 3 sony is just as guilty of doing unethical business practices to push their games as someone like microsoft...... they are all in it for the money, we can't fix the problem by hounding only one of them...... microsoft and sony and even nintendo sink to the lowest of lows, and have a serious integrity problem but that is business remember? who is allowing this to take place because they mainly have no integrity whatsoever? who is allowing them to control everything they do and sink lower than vipers? GAMESPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gamespot and gamespot's management are the cesspool of modern day zero integrity politics, who let the companies with the biggest paychecks dictate everything. does gamespy do it? hell no!!!! does gametrailers do it? no!!! does IGN, you bet and that's why IGN needs a cleaning too but what about others like eurogamer? no!!!!!!!! its always gamespot, and that's why we got to get gamespot and all its shady business dealings out of here!! create a petition to toss gamespot off metacritic, its time. http://www.petitiononline.c... LETS SEND A REAL MESSAGE!!!!!!!!!!! and then send the petitions out everywhere..................
GTFO here dude, no that's not true. No way dude, no. You are talking about Sony dude c'mon, Sony. Sony represents everything that is pure and innocent in this world. Why are you making this up dude?. You must be a Xbot, yeah that must be it. Go fvck yourself dude.
10.2 I almost didn't catch the sarcasm (mainly because of the stupidity of the people on this website)
That's why you don't attack an amazing developer like Insomniac. I have a feeling that if Gamespot had attacked an uninnovative, mediocre title like...let's say...Halo...they would've been in even more trouble. Ratchet and Clank doesn't have the fanbase that Halo has... ...and yet... ...we're pretty mad because we KNOW it's a great franchise and Future: Tools of Destruction was INCREDIBLE!
if halo 3 scored anything under a 9, I think Microsoft would of nuked CNET lol
DOWN WITH THE DEVIL!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA gamespot look at you now
I was thinking the same thing. All these people protesting and organizing, perhaps they can protest things like..human rights or something
Down with Human rights!!
if those idiot gave perfect dark on the 360 a high score they deserve to be boycotted, so at least this should show you guys that developer indeed pay for their review to be good. So Screw you gamespot, what happen insomniac didn't pay you?
i smell the end of GS
The word is out on the street - or - the web. All over their reputation is now shattered. The money they took better lasts, because their core market - the gamers - is leaving the building - accounts. When the visitors to the site dries up, the advertisers will leave - with the exception of the few who thought they might buy the positive reviews. And this should be a warning to the rest out there as well. We can expect a number of other sites suddenly "correcting" their reviews to avoid scrutiny. Which will most probably make it only worse. I expect we will see a lawsuit soon over this review tactics. It affects market share - and represents loss of earnings. In effect it is false advertising. What if a publisher sues them, and under cross examination a reviewer cracks and admits that he was instructed to give low scores to a title and downplay it in every way? That would represent loss of earnings for the publisher due to bribery. The one who paid for the bad review and the one giving the bad review will have to make up for the loss of earnings. Not to say of anti-competitive lawsuits etc that may come out of this. Reviews is a business, and must be held accountable according to business ethics. I am quite sure a few fat little reviewers will sh*te their pants when they see in what kinds of trouble they can be for taking the gifts and inflating / deflating the scores in exchange.
now that's more like it!!!!!!! http://www.petitiononline.c... sign it one and all and let us speak in large numbers! send the petition on to everyone u can, let us speak with one loud voice and flood them!!!!!!!!!!!
haha I signed it and brought up them being biased against the PS3 LOLLOLOLLOL
wake me up when the xbot circle jerk over one of their lieutenants getting canned is over.
xbots rrod together.......errrrr RIDE together;)
even at a non gaming type article your still a fanboy? my god get off your period kid damn
that site sucks anyway people should of been left that crap along time ago
and thier reviews way back in the day were top notch, but it really just plummeted to hell
THIS IS MADNESS!!!
THIS IS SPARTAAA!!!
lol /clap +bubbles all around.
I was on the GS forums last night (haven't done that in a while) and I thought the reader score thing was pretty clever too. People over there are seriously pissed. Funny thing is, at least with the score of 6, K&L probably would have sold enough copies. Now that everyones attention is on it, I'm guessing thats not gonna happen. Probably not what Eidos had in mind.
they are saying to boycott the ads as well as the site, i'm sure quite a few people on here use firefox with ad block and don't see the ads anyway
you go about it is contacting the sponsors to remove there support for the site. If the site loses it sponsors then the site can't go on.
... none of the people posting here know the facts surrounding him leaving. this whole 'boycott' thing is retarded on so many levels.
There needs to be more exposure done on the industry because there are a few more sites which do heavy advertising of games; the spotlight should be done into their policies and inner-dealings. 1UP should be next followed by GameTrailers.
Something is definitely rotten in the state of video game reviews.
I could have told you that... look at EGM/1UP giving games like Uncharted and Ratchet&Clank 8.0/8.5 ratings while Halo 3 gets 9's and 10's (with a mediocre campaign)... I think we, as gamers, need to create some sort of coup against the game-review organization in general. It seems that everyone prefers to take money under the table nowadays and treat gaming as a prostitute rather than an art and entertainment industry as it once was before.
just dont visit gamespot thats the best way, once they see how little the hits are they will have to try something else. as for gerstmann being fired i dont really care. people get fired everyday for all different things this is no different, and it wasnt like he made that much of a difference.
I think I am accidentally part of the boycott, and have been for years, seeing as how I haven't been to their site in years.... :P I don't actually think there has been enough information out about this to make any black/white decisions. Yes the firing was supposedly associated with the review, but from what I understand there are previous offences and the problem wasn't the 7/10 he gave it. The problem was the tone of the article, it focused on all negatives, which a lot of his reviews did. I think pulling your marketing campaign from a company that doesn't even give your game a fair review makes sense. Kane and Lynch is not a terrible game by any means, but by the way that review was worded you would have thought he was going to give it a 4/10.
gamespot needs to learn a lesson ... i hope they learn it and change ... and stop being BIASED
How hard would it be to get Gamespot from contributing to MegaCritics average score?
Gamespot won't be bought down, bit stupid to think that. If they do go down then I will eat my Xbox 360 and PS3. =)
Make sure you film it and put it on youtube if you do lol
GameSpot's articles have been decreasing in quantity and quality since this generation started. I mean, just look at IGN's coverage of Tekken 6: http://ps3.ign.com/objects/... and GameSpot's: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3... IGN have some sixteen news articles and two previews on the game, while GameSpot only have six news articles(one of which only has to do with the Tekken film) and two previews.
And I hope this is a lesson to everyone in the industry. It would be like Titanic or Enron all over again, except in the game journalism "world". IGN, 1up, EGM, Games Radar, GamePro, Destructoid, and so on... they all have some bits of shoddy and shady journalism. But again, I doubt they'll change much... they'll simply try to be "more careful". I'm glad this happened though... it just shows that game scores are taken too seriously by gamers, whereas they are actually skewed by the corruption of the journalists, or simply by the fact that they can't take it too seriously themselves (Mario: 11 out of 10, anyone?).
Hate them since the bad reviewed of Metal Gear Solid 3.
I bet that by this time next week everyone will have forgotten about this except the most diehard of fanboys.
EGM had the same situation; they reviewed a game and gave it low scores and the advertisers pulled the ads...you know what EGM did? shrugged their shoulders and continued to give us the best damn reviews out there. What they gained was credibility and personal reaffirmation that they're the best out there. Had Gamestop given K&L a high score, they'd lose credibility; if you're looking for an honest review, you know not to turn to these guys. Personally, I never liked Gamespot and found them to be tripe and increasingly shallow in their reviews. Now, the more I think about it, I wonder about Cnet.com? I mean, I'd go there to read their "trustworthy" reviews, but who's to say that Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer...etc etc doesn't pay for those reviews? Birds of a feather flock together, maybe.
The petitions are at 311+ and counting!!!! Tell everyone to stop buying DELL, they make horrible PCs !!! http://www.petitiononline.c... Regardless of the system you own you know we can't tolerate biased shady reviews !!! It ruins it for all!!! Time to speak out as one and kick them off the metacritic !!
I say we boycott online petitions.
i think im part of the boycott group accidently that is cuz i havent been going there regurerely for nearly a year:)
Those stores are run by the most pure evil scam artists of all time BOYCOTT!!!
Hmm... I usually don't click on ads anyway. Guess I'm part of their boycott?
