The holiday shopping season is upon us, and in the November edition of Pachter's Podium, we talked with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter about the holiday console battle, recent rumors, and the next Call of Duty.
I wonder if Zelda is really enough to enable Wii to once again be the best seller this holiday season. Wii's had a dreadful year so far.
It isnt so much about this game or that. You figure anyone who doesnt have a system will not only buy it for the game that caught their eye but also the wealth of games in the back catalog as well. This is true of the PS3 and 360. People have to get their foot in the door and then once inside, the fun never ends.
PS3 is going with huge numbers of exclusives. Sadly for MS, they switched their tactics from releasing core exclusives to making kiddie games and casual games. MS's selling point now is casual games which just makes me sad
Blu Ray is also a big seller being the only HD format available. Nothing like watching a 1080p Blu Ray.
At $100 the Wii is going to sell no matter what.
But doesn't everybody already have one?
I think its actually getting the gamer crowd now at this price point because before it was hard to justify spending that kind of money but after this years games and the competitions lack of games gamers can finally justify the cost
And come this Christmas season...the Wii will once again outsell all the rest. This seems to happen every Christmas season
recession + cheapest console + something their "friend" has = many people will buy a wii.
except you just described the 360. 360 is going for $199 on Black Friday for the 250gb with Digital copy of Halo Reach and Fable 3 at Best Buy
The PS3 is at a great price this holiday season. It's going for $199 and cheaper at many places on Black Friday. Even after that, the regular price is $250, which is a great value. Tons of exclusive games from this year and years past, as well as many more coming out soon. Starhawk, Twisted Metal, Versus 13, etc. The casual crowd might be drawn to the PS3 more due to the Move being similar to the WiiMote, albeit much more accurate and precise. Everybody Dance seems to be heavily marketed lately for the PS3. Also, many Wii owners might consider the fact that going with the PS3 will keep them with a FREE online service and a wonderful 3D-capable bluray player. Of course, it is likely that the sales juggernaut named Wii might still outsell the other two, sadly. It's the Wii's last holiday season until the Wii U gets here.
Well, with the likes of zelda out, it is very possible for it to get the most sales this christmas as it is a great game. The 3ds may stabd a good chance of major sales aswell with mario and mariokart
$99 Wiis are going to sell like mad. So are $199 PS3s and 360s. Everyone is going to have a great holiday.
Who is Patcher and why do we care?
My nephew falls into this catagory perfectly. He is now 11 & wants to come into current hd gen from his wii & he wants the ps3. I love it, ive bougth him 4 games for christmas from gamefly for $35
PS3 - will sale well, Move = Dead Wii= On N4G Wii is a lame subject Xbox 360 = 2012-Halo 4\2013-Announcement\2014-New Xbox&Halo 5 NA Sales - Wii > Xbox > PS3
Wii is a poor mans PS3/X-Box. Also why get one when a new one is just around the corner.
The Wii is completely different than the PS3 and Xbox. It's not a poor man's PS3/Xbox, it's simply a unique, different alternative. If you're not big on shooters and gaming online, and you want fresh and unique gameplay experiences, you go for a Wii. That's not to say that the HD systems don't have they're unique experiences (cause, they do), but that area is what the Wii specializes in. The Wii is a great 2nd console to own along with an HD system.
The lack of fresh, unique experiences is kind of why I shy away from the Wii, but to each his own.
Wii have best price 99$ if you havent already bought one. Xbox 360 4GB arcade w/kinect dislike the memory not worth it if u really like the kinect. PS3 beats them all blu ray 160gb hdd. I know im working black friday. And on thanksgiving day :(
Wii is like a fruitcake, everybody gets one in the holidays whether it sucks or not. Though Zelda is pretty damn awesome
My wifes word tonight... This is the wordt zelda nintendo has ever made. Together we have played all of them. I'm still giving it a chance though its very different IMO.
If I was a kid with no job I'd get a PS3 because I hate to have to rely on my parents to renew my Live subscription every year. Plus the same content on PSN is way cheaper than on Live. MS price gouging is going to bite them in the eventually.
I think it will be a very interesting holiday season sales wise for consoles. At this point in their respective life cycles, all consoles have a a good amount of public exposure to the point where shoppers are savvy enough to consider all of them. The wii has price going for it, and perhaps the family friendly experience. You can't really claim that motion controls for it are a deciding factor - Kinect has gotten enough marketing and exposure to the point where the wii is no longer unique to the average buyer in that respect. The wii also has some great, unique games, but I hardly see advertising for anything wii related unless it is highly casual focused. The xbox 360 has Kinect, live, and a few big blockbuster titles going for it. Kinect is definitely attractive to some, but I wonder if buyers are wary of motion controls after the wii - has the general public moved on from motion? Live is interesting, as MS pushes the xbox and its service as a very social experience. The 360 doesn't have a lot of exclusives, but has set itself up as the go to place for certain multiplats - I mean, to the average person who doesn't know any better, the commercials make it sound as if COD is almost an xbox exclusive. Then theres the PS3, which has Bluray, move, 3D, and a boat load of games. I own all 3 consoles, but at ths point in the console gen, I will admit that the PS3 probably gives the most bang for the buck. The problem I have is with the way Sony markets the PS3. The PS3 has a ton of exclusives, and yet they have little public exposure other than maybe uncharted. It has 3D and motion controls, but again little marketing makes these features after thoughts, rather than selling points. For the longest time, it was bluray that sold the PS3 to the general (non-gaming) public. However, as there are now ridiculously cheap bluray players available, I doubt the average joe sees this as a major selling point.
someone needs to photoshop a mario cap on this man? hees a dead ringer lol
Amazon was selling the wii for £50 last holiday. Of course it will outsell everything with prices like that.
