Why is Sexuality Such a Big Part of Gaming?

Polian Studios: "Sex sells, it’s a fact. Women buy things so they can feel sexier, and have an easier time attracting a man; and men buy and do things to seem attractive and strong to women. And this huge societal tone has made its mark in gaming, and gaming culture."

No..actually it isn't. Your just a horny person whose mind is stuck in 2009. Munn left G4 a while ago and she honestly wasn't even that hot. She admits herself that she isn't even a gamer. If I want sex, I get it...or I watch porn. Gaming is something totally different that stimulates my mind in another way.

Olivia was only hired becuase she is pretty. She was fired because she embarrassed G4 in her GT5 interview with Kaz. She is a retard. Majority of G4 girls have always been pretty but at the same time smart, like Laura Foy, Tina Wood, and Morgan Webb. Women with college degrees, not idiot models like what Olivia was.

Yes sexuality is a part of gaming, but it's a part of life. I personally don't get the whole asapect of the article. I think sexuality has always been a big part of media. Now a days games are showing women as strong empowered ladies who are sexy becuase of their mind and characteristics. Like the gals from Gears, or Elena Fisher, and even the new NORMAL looking Lara Croft.

And as always Logic makes no sense ever, failing to make a relevant point. And once again having to be the one who disagrees with the topic at hand. That is if his hand is free, since he tells us it's used to stimulate his mind when games aren't doing the trick. Oh good grief.

...ummm, you realize that your agreeing with me right? Anyways, you have the link to that GT5 interview? I'd like to see it. I thought she got fired because she was disrespectful towards Jaffe during the E3 interview for Twisted Metal.

I'm surprised so many sites haven't figured this out yet. If they want to hire pretty women, whatever, that's their choice...but at least hire people who know something about the gaming industry. Don't just hire ex-models or small-time actresses and expect them to know everything about games and/or how to be good interviewers. All it does is piss people off when they get opportunities to talk to some of the biggest people in the gaming industry, and end up screwing it up or looking like idiots.

And sure sex sells...but I'd rather watch an unattractive person with a genuinely interesting interview or news, than an attractive person who has no idea what they're talking about. The latter is just embarassing.

@ NukaCola

Wow, you agree with everything that Logic just wrote and then go on to say that "as always Logic makes no sense ever, failing to make a relevant point. And once again having to be the one who disagrees with the topic at hand."

WTF

i dont know what everyone see's but I dont think olivia is pretty at all, her body isnt sexy, her face is what ever. Faaaaaaaar hotter girls everywhere else, is it the fact that she likes games that people think shes hot?

anyway, Sexuality is a part of life, its a part of art, its a part of games. the men will almost always be buff, and girls will look like bimbo's

What a ridiculous article. First off, how many games sell sex, or use sexuality to try to lure gamers in? Like 1%? Less? Games like Grand Theft Auto come around maybe once every 2-3 years. Games like Mass Effect and other role playing games focus on story and character relationships - and in adult relationships guess what? That sometimes includes sex. Sure there are some games that use sexuality, but a big part of gaming? Says you.

To say sexuality is a big part of gaming is to admit you don't understand gaming, or gamers. Look at what happened to Bayonetta. Great game, yet oversexed and that actually stunted the game's sales. Anyone remember that BMXXX game with the strippers in it? How well did that go over?

In the meantime, games like Super Mario Bros, Gran Turismo and Call of Duty are selling millions without even a hint of sexuality.

Ridiculous and completely off base.

I dunno if you've noticed this but sexuality is kind of a big part of humanity. Hell, it's how we get here in the 1st place.

Gamers are just...less modest I guess?

Hicken2432d ago

They're generally not as bad as movies are, these days, to say nothing of TV, and even books or magazines.

Yet people continue to bitch and obsess over these fictional women as though they are real people to the point of even wanting them to adhere to the same standards.
