Sony Racing Simulation Gran Turismo Blurs Line Between Virtual And Reality

LAS VEGAS – When it comes to racing franchises, Sony has gotten a lot of mileage out of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo games. The driving simulation has sold over 60 million copies worldwide since it launched on the original PlayStation in 1998. The most recent version, Gran Turismo 5, sold over 5.5 million copies globally last year. For the first time ever, Sony is expanding the game through downloadable content. The first DLC pack has already sold over 1 million copies at $9.99 per download. (Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi, polyphony digital, PS3, Sony)

I thought this photomode pic of GT5 was real for awhile lol. Makes me want to venture outside of the states. Hope I get a chance to one day.

Edit: @ insomnium

Wow, it does lol.

SPEC II was the best update in a game ever. I love how it fixes everything shady reviewers nitpicked on

They're shady for playing only 2 days to review it. They gave it much lower scores than it should have gotten because of the expectations. Without the unreasonably high expectations, the scores wouldn't have been such crap. GT5 does A LOT of things FM4 can't and hasn't ever done, but FM4 gets higher scores because it's, at least, more of a gamer's game.

"FM4 gets higher scores because it's, at least, more of a gamer's game."

That is the problem with reviews they are misunderstood.

Forza scoring more than GT5 does not mean it is better or worse in the eye of the reviewer. Scores are given solely to the game they are written for and are purely about that game alone.

Thus GT would have been marked down for it's issues, in that it could have been better. Not that it was better or worse than Forza.

Comparing game scores is impossible, they do not match no matter the game.

Who said GT had lost its crown to some other game? I don't see any competitors doing ANYTHING like this.

At various points in time, I've had to sell/get rid of/trade my game collection away for various reasons. My GT games have stayed, and always will.

Sweeet. We got confirmation of that Camaro being DLC. Before DLC was announced, it was supposed to be that the winners will be included in the next GT game.

Hmm, last year's winners aren't in GT5. SEMA DLC car pack here we come. I can taste it.

It wasn't? hmmm... which car won last year? Wasn't it the ford "TransCammer"?
Dee_91  +   1349d ago
no it was a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and they still arent sure rather that car will make it in GT5 or if it will be in GT6 .. same for the car that won this year

Gt will now have all generations of Camaros !! Well the Iroc is a concept version

I just looked it up. I'm starting to think Kaz favors muscle cars; third straight year he chose a muscle car. Then again, he does own a Ford GT.

This is one of the few games I have purchased which I still continue to play a year after purchase. Unlike many games which come out on annually witha few minor adjustments, this game keeps evolving into a new beast. I'm curious to how much extra content the game will have once the last update and DLC have been sent out.

Still waiting for my K.I.T.T, Batmobiles and Ecto 1 DLC for the game. If they do that right there, that would be a dream come true.
