No its just a series trying to rip off gta's glory and call it their own.

It depends on what you like about Grand Theft Auto. If you play Grand Theft Auto style games for the serious story, then steer clear of Saint's Row.

However, if you play gta style games for the go anywhere, do anything, f*ck sh*t up sandbox mechanics, then as of now, there's no question about it that Saint's Row is the better choice (since GTA4 that is).

I prefer all the wild, crazy, unrealistic and fun things you can do in Saint's Row over GTA4s good story but boring sandbox.

GTA was far from boring. Its atmospheric city, more realistic physics and better shooting makes it a much better game than any Saints Row. I like Saints Row 3 but I absolutely loved GTA IV and it wasn't because of the story. SR3 is too over the top. There is a line and SR3 crosses it to the point where you just can't take it seriously. The city is dull and sure the game delivers with quantity but not so much with quality. The fun factor to a game reduces for me if the game is just loony and not intelligent. I like to get lost in a game world and no SR game world achieves that sense of immersion. GTA V will blow it out of the water.

when was we supposed to take games seriously? its about fun remember? anyone?? anyone remember the fun part? ...no?

LOGICWINS2162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

"when was we supposed to take games seriously? its about fun remember? anyone?? anyone remember the fun part? ...no?"

A relatively serious/mature story can add more immersion to a game...therefore making it more "fun". If a story is too silly, then chances are that the player will lose immersion because he/she doesn't care about the plot and/or characters' struggles...hence diminishing the fun you have with the game.

EDIT: Also, not all games are about fun. Dark Souls for example isn't necessarily about having non-stop enjoyment...its about the satisfaction you get for surpassing seemingly unbeatable odds after hours of trial and error.

"GTA was far from boring. Its atmospheric city, more realistic physics and better shooting makes it a much better game than any Saints Row."

I haven't tried Saint's Row 3 just yet (still waiting for it to get delivered), but GTA4s controls were awful. On foot, you felt like a 700 pound obese man with an anvil tied to your foot, and the car physics were way too realistic that it just completely took all the fun out of driving.

"I like Saints Row 3 but I absolutely loved GTA IV and it wasn't because of the story. SR3 is too over the top. There is a line and SR3 crosses it to the point where you just can't take it seriously."

I was psyched as hell for GTAIV, I even bought the collectors edition. One of the biggest mistakes I've ever made game purchase wise, I should have just got the regular edition.

True, Saint's Row is extremely over the top, but that's why it's fun. It doesn't need to be taken seriously, it just needs to be extremely fun, and every Saint's Row game I've played so far has been able to do just that, and there's no doubt in my mind that SR3 will do the same.

GTA is about realism. If you don't like that then don't play GTA.

I agree that GTA4 didn't have the replay value(what you guys call 'fun') that SA and VC had, but GTA4 is far from a BORE fest like so many saints row fanboys like to make it out to be.

GTA4 went slightly too realistic by removing planes and the tanks, but I think R* has realized this and GTA 5 will be more 'fun', but don't expect the stupid absurd silliness that saints row has.

vickers5002162d ago

"GTA is about realism."

San Andreas wasn't, Vice City wasn't, GTA3 wasn't. The only GTA that was about realism was GTA4, and it was a massive step down from its predecessors.

"but GTA4 is far from a BORE fest"

I had absolutely no desire to play the game after I finished the campaign. I will admit, the story was good and it was one of the few stories in gaming I actually kind of liked, but running around the city destroying things and causing havoc is what makes a grand theft auto game so great for me.

GTA4 pretty much took that whole element out: no infinite ammo/lives cheats, very few cheats that were entertaining, you could pretty much only enter cheats into the game before you start your rampage or if you're lucky enough to find a blindspot where the police can't even shoot at you.

It had the most heavy controls I've ever played in a game (unrealistically heavy, nowhere close to realism), the most generic weapon set in a game with nothing unique in the slightest (the only fun one to use was the rpg), and annoying unfun driving controls.

All those things ruined what I originally loved about Grand Theft Auto.

You can call me a Saints Row Fanboy, but the reason I love Saints Row is because it's so much like the old GTAs, the good ones, and the SR games fill the void that GTA4 created.

Outside_ofthe_Box2162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

You're complaining about lack of cheats and how after the main story of the game there wasn't anything interesting left for you to do. I actually agree with on this. There was no fun cheats. And after I completed the main story I didn't play GTA 4 either. BUT I did enjoy the time I spent playing the game. For me to say it was a bore fest best because I couldn't smack people with dildos is stupid.

You also said that GTA 4 was the only GTA about realism how so? If GTA 4 remained the same, but had all the cheats SA and VC had would the game no longer be about realism?

Realism has been improved with each iteration of the series. Each GTA has always been more realistic than the last. So yes GTA has always been about realism. I do agree that GTA 4 went a bit too far though. I want to be able to fly planes, use tanks, buy mansions, etc. As long as they don't cross the line like the idiotic Saints Row.

vickers5002162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

"For me to say it was a bore fest best because I couldn't smack people with dildos is stupid."

I don't want to smack people with dildos, in fact I never even used that weapon in San Andreas.

"If GTA 4 remained the same, but had all the cheats SA and VC had would the game no longer be about realism?"

It would still be about realism, but it would at least be fun.

And the realism I'm talking about (that I hate) is the controls, the driving physics, the mundane and downright boring mini games/side missions like darts, bowling, virtual tv, virtual web browser, virtual stand up comedy (that was okay at first), being called by friends to "hang out" or going on virtual dates with virtual women.

GTA4 might as well be the f*cking sims. If they would have had an infinite ammo and god mode cheat, I would have had a better time with the game. It would still be a disappointment as a gta game, but I would have enjoyed it quite a bit more.

"Realism has been improved with each iteration of the series. Each GTA has always been more realistic than the last. So yes GTA has always been about realism."

No. It HAS gotten a LITTLE bit more realistic with each iteration (aside from gta4 of course), but it has never been ABOUT realism until GTA4.

GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas were always wild and crazy fun, and that's what those games were about. Fun, not realism. The driving controls never got more realistic until 4, and neither did character movement. Up until 4, you never felt heavy in the slightest, you were always quick, responsive, and agile. With GTA4, like I said, you feel like an obese man whenever you even try to move.

GTA4 was about realism, but previous gtas were about fun, so no, the franchise has NEVER been ABOUT realism.

"As long as they don't cross the line like the idiotic Saints Row."

What line? Silliness? Fun? I know the franchise can be downright f*cking ridiculous, but I'd rather have something silly and annoying than something boring and pointless. If you're honestly going to sit there and tell me that you prefer bowling, darts, virtual dates, (etc.) to stuff like driving a flaming atv around and blowing stuff up, or driving a car that sprays crap onto peoples houses, or strapping c4 to someone and watching them flail around before detonating it, then I'm sorry, but I have no respect for your taste in gaming if you prefer those boring games to the crazy stuff you do in saints row.

If you think it's too idiotic, then maybe you should lighten the hell up and take the game for what it is: silly and fun.

Outside_ofthe_Box2160d ago (Edited 2160d ago )

umm yeah, you should never buy a another GTA game ever agin. You should stick to SR and I'll stick to GTA.

""What line?""

Ok, since there isn't a 'line' they might as well make you fly and shoot beams in saints row, Am-I-Rite? As long as it's fun who gives a hoot?

vickers5002160d ago

"As long as it's fun who gives a hoot?"

You're implying fun is bad in any sort of way? Wow, just wow. Maybe you should pick another hobby. If everything you play requires some sort of seriousness, then you are really missing out on a lot of fun.

I'm glad I don't have your outlook on gaming, otherwise I'd only buy 3 or 4 games a year.

Man In Black2162d ago

It had the potential to be, but this one's a lazy POS, blatantly rushed out. SR2 was much better.

Me-Time2162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

Dayum. That's a shame. Either way, why does everything have to be a "killer" of something? How about "good competitor"?

Fuck articles with titles like this. Yes, I'm not reading shit. I think the people who say, "They just want the hits.", should start ignoring those articles. They don't deserve the read. They deserve the protesting though. FUUUUUUDGE those lazy "journalists".

farhad2k82162d ago (Edited 2162d ago )

I got the game earlier today, and it felt so.. scripted! At the beginning anyway..
I got bored of it in about an hour, I really thought it had potential. But this will be the last Saints Row game I am getting.

Year in, year out, they claim to have made a GREAT game, but it just isn't.
It will never beat GTA, because GTA is just.. so well constructed, and they put effort in to making the game.

I know ALOT of people hate GTA IV, but I LOVE it.. on the PC anyway. With my graphical mods, and other mods, it's just an endless game, just like Minecraft.

I also don't like the driving physics and gun physics of SR3, I don't want it to be realistic in any way, but the physics are just so.. 2004? They just don't feel right.

I'll be waiting for GTA V, and get back to Skyrim. Good by Saints Row.

EDIT: I think I prefer San Andreas to the whole Saints Row series. Honestly, San Andreas is an EPIC game, and it was made in 2004!

NYC_Gamer2162d ago

silly question?saints row will never ever be huge/successful as grand theft auto.

AronDeppert2162d ago

I think it is! I mean, it has a dildo bat in it after all. How can GTA compete with that??!!

Mac is OK2162d ago

San Andreas had a dildo weapon 7 years ago.
