Skyrim 1.2 Patch Coming Week Of Nov 28th, No Mention Of PS3 Framerate Issues

Bethesda has announced on their forums that the 1.2 patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was submitted for certification on November 18th, and should be live "the week after Thanksgiving" for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Unfortunately, the company did not address if the patch would correct the framerate issues that are making the PS3 version unplayable. (PC, PS3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Xbox 360)

The lag only seems to kick in with some heavy lighting duties for me.

Working fine for me so far on PS3, but my save files haven't reached 6MB yet.

Bethesda's Pete Hines confirmed on his Twitter... "On the list for this update is improved performance for long-term play on PS3."!/dcde...

the first patch was 2.0 (go check yourself) so how come the new one is going to be 1.2?
lastdual  +   1543d ago
According to Bethesda, the first patch was mislabeled by Sony when it went up on PSN (it might only be Sony Europe).

On every other platform, and on PSN in other regions, the current patch is listed correctly as 1.1.

I'm 100 hours into the game and after 1 hours play the game moves like a slide show when I'm around people in cities or more than 2 enemies in dungeons. The more into the game you get and the worse it gets. When I was 60 hours into the game I rarely had any issues. I just hope it doesn't get even worse.

Also sometimes you don't absorb the souls of dragons you kill. They lie dead with there skin still on. The words on Dragon walls won't reveal themself. You hear the music as if your about to learn the word but nothing happens.

Quests also don't finish. Trust me it gets worse the further into the game you get.

Foolish of me for falling for the Bethesda PS3 scam for the third time. There WILL NOT be a fourth time no matter how good their games look and shame on the foolish reviewers who told me this game ran smooth on the PS3. They helped Bethesda hustle me out of 50 euros for a broken game
jrbeerman11  +   1544d ago
wow looks like you got the worst of the worst. sorry to hear that.

I havent had any of those problems, although I am on PC version and I started a new game after my first 40, to roll out a new type of character to keep fresh.

Hopefully the patch will fix your issues as this is really an amazing game, only thing i could say now is to try a new game with new character and just do different quests.
geddesmond  +   1543d ago
Looks like I spoke too soon. The game is near unplayable now. 3 more hours of gameplay after posting that post and my game won't go 5 minutes with moving like a slide show, I contracted the Vampire disease after clearing out a dungeon of vamps and the cure vampire quest bugged out on me. Falion won't respond to me so now I'm stuck as a vampire. I'm gonna loose 20 hours of gameplay because I need to load up an old save and my last one was 20 83 hours of gameplay. I'm pissed off now.

This is the first game I bought from them and I got it on day one. I'm not experiencing many problems right now and I really love the game but this is worrying. If they don't fix it, I'm not sure I can trust them in the future. It's bad enough that I have to wait a month later to pay them for DLC and that I have the worst graphics. Those I've accepted but this, I can't. I hope the government gets on publisher's asses and consider forcing them to recall in case this becomes too common.
slayorofgods  +   1544d ago
Keep the government out of it, especially since you aren't experiencing any major problems, the government has no business to meddle in every single affair that bothers someone. If they did we wouldn't be able to accomplish a single thing in the free market.

Bethesda always releases patches for their games... Just be patient.

"It's bad enough that I have to wait a month later to pay them for DLC and that I have the worst graphics."

Just do the side missions in the mean time. Do you expect to finish every single side mission before the game comes out?

And worst graphics? I'm playing it on the PS3 and it looks pretty damn good for an open world game to me.

The framerate issue is a bit worrying though, although it hasn't happened to me yet, it happened to me with Fallout 3. But my save file is about 9mb and the game has only crashed on me twice so far. It gets a bit slow whenever I go to Whiterun, but it only seems to be that town.
gypsygib  +   1544d ago
You should have seen Fallout New Vegas, that game was worse than a beta, and alot of the problems weren't something testers could miss.
Kick The Ass  +   1543d ago
I agree, it was a mess. However Bethesda was the publisher on that one, the actual developers were Obsidian, so they aren't entirely to blame :)
vikingland1  +   1544d ago
nor does it mention the texture loading problem the 360 has.
fluffydelusions  +   1544d ago
That only occurs if you install the game afaik to HD. I didn't install and everything is fine. But yeah, hope that is fixed as well.

monkey nuts  +   1544d ago
Well I installed to my 360's HD and have encountered no such texture loading issues. Knock on wood so far its been the least buggy bethesda game I've had. FO 3 on my ps3 being the worst, I ended up trading it in for the xbox version.
jthamind  +   1544d ago
it'd be nice if the game was more PC-friendly too. i have two AMD Radeon 6800s, but i can't run Skyrim on Very High and still have a smooth framerate. yet i can put The Witcher 2, which has far superior graphics as far as quality (regardless of which art style is better), on Ultra and the game runs smooth.

not sure what Bethesda's deal is. seems like they know how to create a great game, but they can't code it well.

I am using

and before I used that Skyrim used to crash all the time for me :P I haven't experienced a crash since! If u use this you will enable skyrim to use more than 2 Gb of RAM :) I am using a gtx 460 and it runs very smooth on highest possible settings, 1920x1080, and I have a few mods already^^

Another fix, related to frame rate drops.....

I actually found out my mouse lagged for this game. I'm thinking this is a more common problem then people realize, people blame frame rate drops when its really mouse stuttering.

Found a fix here, tF_X7I&feature=related

I went form med to ultra settings with this fix.

im using a 6850 and am maintaining high at 60fps disablle aa turn fxaa on and af max with everything on ultra you should be more than fine then
a08andan  +   1544d ago
@jthamind hopefully it will work great for you :) How much RAM do you have? I am currently using 8Gb! RAM is really cheap these days :)
iamgoatman  +   1544d ago
Have you tried disabling Crossfire? Until AMD release a new CAP it's still broken, so you could be seeing negative scaling, hence the inability to play on very high when you should at least be able to run it on ultra and maintain 30FPS.

The performance isn't great though even with a single card, I've seen people with high end GPUs drop below 30FPS in some cases. New drivers and a patch from Bethesda that increases performance wouldn't go a miss.
DonaldBeck  +   1544d ago
so basically they do not want to take away the framerate issues on the ps3, and the texture issues on the 360?
fluffydelusions  +   1544d ago
The two most talked about'd think they would be addressed first.
DonaldBeck  +   1544d ago
exactly, im a little worried the issues are going to be put in the dark for a long time. either way, ill just play the game i got, and get the best out of it with the version i have.
BrianC6234  +   1544d ago
When will people learn? Wait at least a month before playing these games. They're always buggy.
GribbleGrunger  +   1544d ago
until i got the framerate issues i considered this game of the year, but since it's beginning to annoy me a little. if they don't fix this then i'm afraid any DLC, no matter how good, will not find it's way onto my PS3

what i want to know is, did the reviewers actually play all the way through the game on the PS3? if not, then how do you review it, if yes, then why the hell not mention this game breaking problem?
#7 (Edited 1544d ago ) | Agree(7) | Disagree(0) | Report | Reply
Yukicore  +   1544d ago
I am sure that for reviewers they shipped only Xbox version, because it's the base version of the game. And because they were aware that PS3 version has this problem, same story as with Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

"then why the hell not mention this game breaking problem?"

Because not everybody has the same problems as everyone else. For some, the game can run perfectly fine throughout their entire playthrough, but for others, it can freeze to the point of being unplayable. I saw a video a few days which showed that this guy had an 8mb save file saying that once it got up to 7 or 8mb, then it would start to slow down and stop working, yet that hasn't been the case for me or others at all.

Not everyone experiences the same problems.
Kenshin_BATT0USAI  +   1543d ago
Exactly, I'm 100 hours in, and the only issue I've encountered was one freezing, otherwise everything is fine.

I honestly don't think it has to do with the game but something else. The problem seems to spread out to say it's the game.
Philoctetes  +   1544d ago
"what i want to know is, did the reviewers actually play all the way through the game on the PS3? if not, then how do you review it, if yes, then why the hell not mention this game breaking problem? "

Because not everybody is encountering this issue. My save file is about 7.2MB, and this game is running almost perfectly for me. No freezes, minimal framerate drops, etc.
Clayman  +   1544d ago
Saying the game is unplayable because of some framerate issues is a bit exaggerated imo.

There are many videos out there and it is very unplayable.
PirateThom  +   1544d ago
Ahahah, no.

I just went to an area, which I won't explain due to main quest spoilers, but there was a lot of people and a dragon and the frame rate was SO bad it was unplayable I, literally, was surrounded by people and it was like a slideshow.

That's a MAIN QUEST.
Akiba96  +   1544d ago
-_- yea @sirdrake, because everyone is out there to get bethesda...
MysticStrummer  +   1544d ago
It's more than a bit exaggerated. Saving, quitting, and restarting pretty much fixes the framerate problem for a couple of hours. It's not ideal, but the amount of time I've put into Skyrim and the fun I'm having mean "unplayable" is false.
sirdrake  +   1544d ago
Enough with the "Ps3 version is unplayable crap". My fat ps3 is full to the brim with games and it's running skyrim fine. People blow sh*t way out of proportion. Framerate dips once Ina while but calling it "unplayable" is just plain ignorant
Pintheshadows  +   1544d ago
I've been playing the PS3 version for 84 hrs. The frames drop savagely if you ride a horse or if you play for 5 hrs straight with a lot of fast travelling. Fixed by reloading from the menu. Apart from that though I haven't had any "gamebreaking" framerate issues. I feel sad for those that do but considering how long i've played it for I thought I would of noticed. My only gripe is that I can't organise chests. I spent an hour organising Breezehome the other day so I knew where items were. I keep my swords in the bedside table now. I also wish I could ride Shadowmere without the game dying.

Just to add I have noticed holes annd tears in the environmental textures but that was like three times.
FuseUnison  +   1544d ago
Agreed. Everyone's been saying that Skyrim becomes "unplayable" after you reach the ~30 hour mark. I just passed 80 hours and after playing for about 5-6 hours straight I start to get hiccups when first entering areas(cities, mines, etc.) and sometimes during dragon fights where NPCs are also taking part in the fight. Other than that Skyrim's running just fine. I haven't had the game freeze on me once! It's not like I and @sirdrake just got magically working copies of the game or something. Some people have to be significantly exaggerating their problems.

I wish they'd make SOME sort of statement about the PS3 issue. I mean they must know about it by now.
arnyftw  +   1544d ago
The 360 version also gets some frame rate dips too. I hope this patch has addressed all issues, especially the texture ones. Otherwise we're going to have to wait for a couple of months for a patch that fixes most of these issues.
Smokeeye123  +   1544d ago
The game is never unplayable and I have the PS3 version and have played it for like 20 hours. It lags once in awhile, but it always goes back to normal after a few seconds.
Yukicore  +   1544d ago
Of course they were aware, it's the same problem that their 2 previous games - Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas had with PS3.

I really hope that they will fix this, but honestly i think that this problem won't get fixed.

To fix it they have to cut off the feature that makes this game so awesome - item and dead enemy position recognition, or if they collaborate with Sony for them to release a patch of a separate modified OS, because this problem is caused of the way PS3 works.

I fucking hoped that this wouldn't happen with Skyrim, I thought they had it all figured out when they said they have a completely new engine, i guess it was foolish of me to buy Skyrim...
#14 (Edited 1544d ago ) | Agree(0) | Disagree(1) | Report | Reply
theDECAY  +   1543d ago
What do you mean its caused by the way the PS3 works? That's just dumb. Every game on the PS3 is subject to how the console works, yet other games are fine.
Yukicore  +   1541d ago
No, i meant PS3 works differently, it caches all from area player plays in, and in Skyrim case it caches also all the data from save-files, which include many objects locations, dead bodies etc. from around Skyrim, everything to the max it can chew from the save-game and the game is lagging because memory which holds the all cache is full, PS3 fills it from where it should only closest item locations from save-file. More there is data on save-game, the more it tries to optimize blocking other processes, thus causing lag.
gypsygib  +   1544d ago
Judging from the comments, I guess I'll be getting the 360 version of Skyrim when my exams are over.
M1chl  +   1544d ago
How long we have to wait till serious issues will be fixed? This doesn't seems like a patch I need : (
Pentumsmart  +   1544d ago
That's faster than BF3. We still haven't gotten a patch aftera month now.
ForROME  +   1544d ago
Buying any Elder Scrolls games for PS3 is a joke - oblivion ran better but had the vampire glitch which ruined your game practically

Go Xbox or PC

Word to SONY if you want your games done right by 3rd party companies dont put together a system that takes 2 yrs just to learn the basics on; listen to devs MS and Nin understand this and you did it with PS1
DanSolo  +   1544d ago
I plan on buying this game but the issues do sound a bit worrying!

That said, I remember a lot of people saying Fallout 3 was a buggy mess but to be honest I didnt experience that many bugs when I played.... I just saved regularly and the occasional freeze I had was easily rectified by a reload.

I feel sorry for the people that have these game breaking issues, but I'm glad to say in previous games I don't seem to have had them myself.... that said I will still wait for the patch to be on the safe side.

I have BF3 and the newly free DC Universe online to keep me busy until Skyrim is all nicely fixed!

And off topic.... if you haven't already downloaded DCU for free... why not?
user3903999  +   1543d ago
Skyrim is a great game, I'm only about 15 hours in and I already have a few lag here and there. As good as the game is, if the patch doesn't fix the issue, than I'm gonna return it or sell it so I can get something else, probably Assassins Creed or Saints Row 3
theDECAY  +   1543d ago
Yeah. Those are by far better games...

"No mention of PS3 framerate issues"
How about no mention on other fixes, not just ps3. This site needs to be renamed N4ps3G.
crates  +   1537d ago
This is very simple. Either this week's patch will resolve the PS3 framerate issues, or I (and many others) will be returning their copy of Skyrim to the retailers that sold them. Whether Bethesda likes it or not, most retail outlets have a 30-day return policy with receipt.
