IncGamers: Don't expect anything like Cloud's hair, Barret's arm or Tifa's boobs anytime soon.
Maybe you can work on your "deformed" stories now. As the graphics got better, the story and overall FF games got worse.
Have to agree with you on the story getting worst. FANTASY (noun) The noun FANTASY has 3 senses: 1. imagination unrestricted by reality 2. fiction with a large amount of imagination in it 3. something many people believe that is false Take that realism crap and stick it.
The characters are so beautiful they're deformed.
I'll admit that the graphics do look great and serah's looking real good... lol, but It's not like there isn't a demanded for outrageous character designs, Square Enix needs to try and get back in touch with their fanbase.
Instead we get guys that look like girls....
what guy looks like a girl in ff13? hmmm maaaybe Hope....otherwise idk what ur talkin about. in other japanese games yes, but ff13 doesnt have any clouds. besides have you ever seen a japanese dude? sorry that a japanese game is well....japanese. besides no matter what you say, sephiroth is still bad ass even if his hair is longer than all of our mothers combined
Umm, hate to break it to you but Final Fantasy is full of feminine looking guys. Cecil from Final Fantasy IV: http://storage.siliconera.c... Kefka from Final Fantasy VI: http://ui25.gamespot.com/22... Cloud, and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII: http://i.animecrazy.net/Clo... Cloud: http://minorsmajor.files.wo... Cloud looks so much like a woman that when he puts on a dress he gets hit on by guys because no one could tell he's a guy! Final Fantasy VIII: http://media.gamerevolution... Final Fantasy IX (this is funny) http://www.videogamelookali... Final Fantasy X http://www.profilethai.com/... Final Fantasy XII http://gamingbolt.com/wp-co...
Lightning is purty
This is Final FANTASY not Final REALITY.
Ehh...Reading your comment made me think about this sentence right at the beginning : http://www.youtube.com/watc... Anyway, you summed it up perfectly. It's up to the artists/developers to make something good out of their imagination. Deformed isn't necessarily bad, Final Fantasy IX's characters were perfect. It doesn't have to be the an entire body that's deformed. It could be an overly long nose, for instance, or huge hands. Physical exaggerations can define a character's personality and change one's perception of it. In my opinion, some of Street Fighter IV's characters can be considered as deformed. I don't see how this isn't compatible with the current generation. FF's developers can try to make the most realistic facial expressions ever but that won't ensure that I will care about the characters they'll show me.
They better stop focusing on cosplayable flashy costume design and improve their gameplay and story. Also, why do characters like vanille and hope exist? Are they supposed to be a contrast so lightning looked more serious? are they supposed to be identifiable archetipes for new gamers? what? why? I'm with Rage_S90; Stop reusing characters, stop making androginous posh gay characters (yeah, sorry, I don't care this claims are not politically correct) I don't want to control a stupid whining girl moving her arms when running like a jersey shore character. I want thrill, drama, action, epicness, darkness, technology, magic, life and death, philosophy, humor, FINAL FANTASY VI, VII. I don't want a fashion parade and fake soap opera frivolous scripts.Damn it, get it already Squeenix.
Lol i actually like Vanille. Hope can just go and die; I found Hope bothersome.
The first thing they need to do is stop listening to the haters. True fans don't want to see FF turned to the path of realism and practicality, that's what the haters want and I guarantee you that they will still hate it no matter what. Listening to a bunch of western RPG loyalists will only lead you down the path of ruin. And following the conventions of western developers isn't working either.
Whatever, but I still think the problem is obviously NOT that "western haters" want a "realist" FF. The problem is Squeenix are obsessed with aesthetics over other assets.
Why can't the characters look like real people? The whole anime craze is making me sick to my stomach.
Because that's the appeal, there's plenty of games going for realism but this is Final "Fantasy".
I gotta admit...I like the more "realistic" look of FF characters (like FFVIII and FFX's characters) than the slightly anime-esque look of the characters from FFXIII. I remember being so amazed at how much FFX's characters looked like real people...with the trademark wacky RPG hair and clothes of course :D
I don't mind realistic look or the Nomura style from the PS1/PS2 days. As long as there's variety between the titles, I'm okay. Kitase, on the other hand, needs to go. He's proven to us that he's incapable of leading development in FF games.
Then don't play it, don't buy it, don't even watch any videos about it. You have the choice to avoid things you don't wish to see.
Your right...when fans of a series have features, gameplay mechanics and series-favored aesthetics systematically being taken away to appeal to a different crowd we should just take it...I get it, we kept the series going for this long but now it's time for the people who haven't given a shit about it to get favored...Thanks btw, my absolute favorite FF is FF8 and none of the main characters or supporting characters were deformed or anything, they were realistic and it is still my favorite but I can see how having characters like cait sith, barrett and Kimari and others can add to the world and storyline and character depth. These are Fantasies and I think we can have reality and we can have fantasy but I hope they can still stay true to FF with FFvs13 and keep a good mixture.
Not all of it.
uhh, no rblaze that's not what I'm saying at all. The person I replied to apparently has an issue with the way FF has always looked. You totally just put words in my mouth. So no...you don't "GET IT" at all. This isn't about rolling over and accepting any new changes they want to make (I have plenty of issues with how SE currently is too, just like everybody else with a brain). This is me commenting to a dude who probably doesn't even play the games yet has an issue with the "anime" styled characters, such as FFVII which happens to be my personal favorite. I've been a fan of the series longer than most. My first FF was the original on the NES afterall.
These guys can go f themselves. Talking sh*t like this yet look at the moogle floating in the back, nuff said. The only FF game that kind of got it right and surprisingly is my favourite, is FF12, where even the moogles seemed like they where some sort of "believable" magical beings in a fantasy world.
Everyone is messing the bigger issue here. Which is, what the hell is wrong with that moogle in the screenshot?
I dont care what the characters really look like as long as everyone looks Final Fantasyish, as in no western style characters. Sahz was cool but he looked like Richard Prior, us westerners dont want to see that we could just go on Comedy Central for that. and yeah FF has become less and less good since FFX. Step your game up SE, fire Wada if you have to.
Yea I hate this whole westernization bullshit...If we want that we will go play a WRPG...More people, especially here in the US, have to have more of an open mind. Why do you guys want everything to be the same. A JRPG is a JRPG, if you don't like JRPG's don't play them. A lot of people here like JRPG games and want to play them. When they want to play WRPG games they play those. I can't stand when Reviewers knock the game because they comepare them to WRPG games. That's like comparing COD to Uncharted cause they are shooters. Stop trying to change the genre, if you don't like it you don't have to play it.
I think he's wrong in assuming thats why western players aren't as interested in their games. Speaking for myself and i'm guessing others, we liked their character design in FF7. We like the exaggerated looks, its fantasy after all and very japanese. What we are looking for is that combined with compelling gameplay and story.
we can all agree FFXIII has the worse story out of all FF games. *cough OBVIOUS CLICHENESS the story is bad because they didnt show it in an interesting way. the pacing of the story made it boring to play. i mean its okay to make a story cliche as long as u make it COMPELLING as well. then us, the gamers will be interested about the story even tho the story is cliche. and if you make a story not compelling and make it OVER-DRAMATIC then you will get an even more shitty story-line. no offence you FFXIII fans i still liked the game because of the character designs (although i hate Snow, Hope and Vanille) the characters (i guess the character development) made me finish the game and even platinum the game. they are interesting nonetheless
Well from time to time I like the deformed character thing. I really wonder how it would look on current consoles as a style of doing things and not because of limitations... (if limitations were the cause of deformed character models...)
Final Fantasy Tactics they had no noses.. Today it probably stands the best FF.
I like girls with huge boobs in games.
Reading the comments in here it must be tough for the devs. They can't appeal to everyone. As for the characters, I have no problem with the way they look. From XIII and Versus to Type-0, they look good to me. Barret had a gun-arm but it looked realistic in advent children so i don't think it means them stopping the crazy designs, it just means that they would be proportionate in size. Barret had really big feet in FFVII for example. One thing i hope they never stop doing is having non human characters like RedXIII, Cait Sith, Vivi, Quina etc.. There's always a sense of excitement when one of them joins your team and they look cool too.
