Five years ago today, Sony released the Playstation 3 in America.

Despite having an extremely high price point to begin, the console boasted some impressive specifications, and has managed to shift over 50million units.

I highly doubt that we will see a PS4 next year anyone with half a brain would know this. Sony said themselves that the PS3 will have a 10 year lifespan

Kran2220d ago

Yeah... no point trying to tell this lot that. People just wont listen ¬¬

I mean I know the PS4 is still years away, because I think Sony would want to concentrate on the PS Vita as the 2012 item. Maybe 2013 or 2014? I'd go 2014 more.

Kleptic2220d ago

i'm guessing that PS4 will be announced...maybe...in 2012, but similar to how the PS3 was announced...almost 2 years from its release and almost nothing to actually show of it...

Earliest possibility at a release date I would guess would be very late 2013, but sometime in 2014 seems more accurate...

its probably more up to MS this time...its a safe bet that the next xbox will get an announcement next year, and Sony simply won't let them out the door first again (even if that was the original plan for the PS3 entirely)...

I'm guessing Sony might be a little rushed by MS this time around, much more so than in previous generations...

the PS2 was 6 y/o when the PS3 came out.. but somehow it feels too soon for a new PS.. this gen came and went in the blink of an eye..

This is how I see it, MS and Sony announce next gen consoles in 2012, both next gen consoles release 2013. Next year is kinda too soon for either to be releasing a console imo.

a_bro2220d ago

just because theres a 10 year lifespan, doesnt mean they are going to wait 10 years for the next system to release guys. i think we saw this with the PS2, and its still going strong.

smashcrashbash2220d ago (Edited 2220d ago )

People just don't think about what they write any more. They have a stupid idea burned in their brain and just won't let it go. Sony doesn't have to wait until the PS3 is at the end of its ten year cycle to make a new system. The PS2 was still selling and getting games when the PS3 was revealed.

@ Noticeably_FAT How do you figure? How do you know Sony isn't bringing out their console next year?

tigertron2220d ago

The 10 year cycle does NOT mean there won't be a PS4 before then. Its the length of time that developers (especially Sony) will develop for it.

Why o why2220d ago (Edited 2220d ago )

Ten year lifespan doesnt mean they wont release another console....im not saying they will or wont but going by history sony has announced the newer console whilst continuing the support for the current. Pretty much what kleptic said above

Edit and pretty much what everybody said above me

BuffMordecai2220d ago (Edited 2220d ago )

10 years. lol They would get murdered in sales if they waited that long.

My (educated?) guess is that MS and Sony will make the announcements next year but I doubt we'll see the release of anything other than the PSV and Wii U.

DonaldBeck2220d ago

2 years is the sweet spot.

colonel1792220d ago (Edited 2220d ago )

Why have I been hearing that this is the longest generation ever if PS3 only turned five, and the Wii too for that matter? The Xbox is six, but when the PS3 launched, the PS2 was six years old.

I don't see how it's longer.

Nope, PS4 in 2013. Probably late in 2013, while Microsoft and Nintendo will release new consoles late 2012.
