GR-UK: Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase explains how the company has learnt from Western development cycles in crafting XIII-2, as well as discussing the current state of Versus XIII.
"That is something we need to follow up, because that seems to be the best way to keep our fans interested and attracted to the franchise." Unbelievable. FFXIII was just shi*. Nothing more to it.
You disagree with what he's saying even it took 4 years for FFXIII and nearly 6 for Versus? They did take too long with these tittles.
Most of those 4 and 6 years are new game engine development. Not the actual game itself. But yea... it still is very long. I think they shouldve licensed the engine instead of making one. Not like FF13 was graphically amazing. Either way, i cant wait for this exclusive.
We don't need yearly releases, but we don't need a game announced 7 years before it comes out. Publishers need to find the right balance in order to keep fans interested and most importantly make the game with the most quality possible. I think fans would be happily willing to wait if publishers show interesting bits of the game once in a while. What SE does with their stupid closed theater is exactly the perfect example of what NOT to do, and loose fans. If SE is trying to make yearly releases of FF, then you can forget I will be buying any other game. I don't like franchises being milked, specially ones that have a lot of potential (Assassin's Creed, for example).
Exactly. No one minded waiting for a FF title, never have. Just as long as it was worth the wait. The last thing we need is for them to try n pump out a FF every year or two. Forget about western development and just work on one AAA title at a time. Finish Versus and get it out, restore fans faith in the series. That would be a start in the right direction.
Just give me Versus, I don't care about anything else S-E has right now unless they announce KH3 for a current HD console.
I'm actually quite interested to see if FF XIII-2 can pull off on the things that FF XIII failed at. Though I'm going to wait until the price drops before buying it. Also I'm excited about the FFX remake. Or was it re-relase? I'm confused on that one.
i feel it that it will, the demo they had for it a comic con was extremly fun. I think it will do better but i still want versus more than anything
"When you think of Western triple A titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Assassin's Creed, they seem to work with a lot shorter turnaround" Its working? Really? Most people hate those shooters and this current assasins creed has the lowest scores in the series history "they make a new game in 1-2 years." which isnt always good "That is something we need to follow up, because that seems to be the best way to keep our fans interested and attracted to the franchise" Really? Are people interested now in those games? Assasins creed has the lowest sales and lowest reviews of the series, call of duty is just meh, ect
No, most people isnt hating those titles, only a very small vocal minority. Otherwise you wouldnt see CoD and Assassins creed sell insanely well here on the west.
We had a new Uncharted game every two years and each one proved better than the previous. Since Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced we've had 3 Uncharteds, 3 Assassin's Creeds, 3 Resistances, 2 Little Big Planets, heck, even Gran Turismo 5 was released. SE took 5 years to complete Type-0. A PSP game for crying out loud. So Square Enix does need to up their release schedule and get their development house in order. It's just a shame that it nearly took them this entire gen to realize that.
Are you a dumb ass? You think this entire gen they only released 2 games? Square enix has released over 30 titles this gen on all systems. Alot more than even the summation of the titles you listed. And type zero was confirmed to only be in dev for 2-3 years, even though it was announced earlier. And whatever they did paid off because the title was amazing @troll This assasins creed sold like shit, and was reviewed as shit.
I think he's talking about SE's Final Fantasy team, you know, the ones behind FFXIII and the main games in general. And how spoiled we've become to consider an 80 metascore as "shit"
2 or 3 years should be long enough to make a game depending on the size of the team. The development time for versus is unacceptable. Thing is, they could have just not announced it and wait until within a year of expected release to announce it. Internet hype dies pretty fast.
Shouldn't this read 'how we ruined FInal Fantasy by following western developers?'
Kitase shouldn't really be looking at CoD and Battlefield as comparison to the FF franchise because those two games are played for their multiplayer modes and not for the story or the characters. So looking at a shorter turnaround may not be the best solution for a story driven game. Then again maybe not announcing a game that isn't going to come out for a very very long time could have helped too. So bring on FFXIIIVs and take my cold hard earned cash already! I've been waiting for so long now... D:
Kitase said on another interview something similar. He said because Shooters have a similar structure they take less time to be made, while RPG's usually are done with a concept from scratch and take longer.
I agree, RPGs just take more time to make. Some western rpgs, such as The Witcher 2, Dragon Age: Origins or Skyrim all took at least 3 years.
The battle system was well received,I hated the battle system it was almost as bad as a certain characters voice. That reason alone will keep me from buying FF13-2.Auto battle is just the stupidest idea I can think of.We should get more control not less with each generation.I always liked the RTB system would turn wait off the first chance I got. character development has also been dissatisfying an not just FF13 but all the way back till the PS1 games.Sad when FF tactics has the best character development on PS1 and hasn't been beat yet.It was a great game able to build your characters to be what you wanted. I just hope they continue to take their time with Vs13 and provide something truly grand.I can wait for a great game, not sure why so many want it right now.I will wait until the man in charge believes it worth putting his name on.
Otherwise I agree with you completely, but FF XII had a very good character development system too. The license system and the fact that you could equip anything on anyone was awesome. Throw in gambits and you were able to create many different kinds of teams with it. Going from that to FF XIII's battle system and Chrystarium was a major disappointment.
Your right I always forget about FF12.It was a great game, just wished they had taken the FF name out.It could of been a great new Ip.Imagine If they had just kept adding to the world allowing for saves to transfer. Each disc just one part of a world, could of been great.
I really want VS XIII but they are taking incredibly long time to finish it. I understand they need time to develop rpgs but almost six plus years now? They need more team to speed up the process, i hope the is out next year.
They're busy making the Xbox 360 version of ff vs
FF VERSUS XIII is shifted to a PS4 launch title, fall 2012 or beginning 2013. Mark my words!!
