GamerZines runs down five gaming series they fear might do overdoing it with yearly releases.
Need For Speed
problem with halo is there is really only one halo game released on the 360 so far. That is halo 3. the other games are more spin offs but are being considered guilty by association. COD and Madden and Guitar hero...those are more akin to "annual". Halo 3 came out in 07 and halo 4 is slated for 12. 5 year gap hardly constitutes as annual. Having read the list it is more like Halo was used in place of Guitar Hero (for example) because the author knew it would be a hit generator. Because something shares a similarity of naming does not make it the same thing. That has been the argument for Final Fantasy fans for years. I always thought they were continuations but they are associated in name not story (not all of them anyway). I guess its unfair for me to say Madden as that being a sports game you will always have an annual change to the roster. My problem is....why does EA have to charge for the player changing teams each year.
I used to love NFS... back in the day. Hell, I still have my copy of NFS2:SE for PC... I grew up on the franchise so I have plenty of good memories (: Unfortunately, constant yearly releases tend to turn me off... So I've quit purchasing them. Maybe if another good NFS pops up, I may consider buying it.
First of all, you're starting to worry about Professor Layton? Really? This franchise is freaking incredible and I loved every one of the four games that were relesaed for the DS.. I will be getting the fifth one without even blinking.. Secondly, Halo is not an annual franchise.. Halo 1 was released in 2001, Halo 2 was released in 2004, Halo 3 in 2007, Halo 3 ODST was released in 2009.. From ODST to Reach it took one year that's correct, but that's only because ODST wasn't even a full game.. Same with Anniversary.. It's just a remake
I know right, this author has no idea what their doing. Especially when there are franchises like Dynasty Warriors that make up to FOUR games a year with literally NOTHING new.
halo 3 - 2007 halo wars - 2008 halo odst - 2009 halo reach - 2010 halo anniversary - 2011 halo 4 - 2012 not to be mean but .. its pretty much a annual franchise. EDIT: I hav halo 3 we can play tonight if u want. and its a great game. but its still annually coming out.
Those are all made by different studios. So it ain't surprising that it is an annual release. Just wait till halo 5, then we will know if Halo is truly an annual release or not.
Halo Wars wasn't even developed by Bungie and Halo Reach had been in development for years. Also, wasn't it revealed that Halo 4 had been in development for at least 3 years?
But.... Halo 3 in 2007 - BUNGIE - FPS - Main Story Halo Wars in 2008 - Enemble - RTS - Spin off ODST in 2009 - SMALL BUNGIE Team - FPS - Spin off Reach in 2010 - Main Bungie Team - FPS - Spin off Anniversary - 2011 - 343i/Saber - FPS - Remake Halo 4 - 2012 - 343i - FPS - New Story Now to more facts. Halo Wars was made entirely seperate from Bungie. Halo ODST was intended to be a budget priced expansion/spin off made by a small group at Bungie in just 1 year! MS forced them to price it at full price. Reach was Bungie's last Halo game with the normal 3 year dev cycle we've come to expect from Halo games. Anniversary was made by 343i and Saber. Halo 4 will be 343i's first real full blown Halo experience. Dev cycle likely close to 3 years. So yes, they may have been annual, but that doesn't hide the fact that they were quality releases and not forced out the door (well maybe ODST, but MS did mess with Bungie's plans for that)
In that sense Uncharted is just as bad as Modern Warfare... Modern Warfare comes out every 2 years Uncharted every 18months-2 years!!!
obviously trolling for fanboy hits when you put halo as the picture, knowing youll get the sony fanboys in here bagging halo. Halo is as far from an annual release as you can get.
Did they really get a bunch of Sony fanboys bagging Halo here? Because all I see is a lot of the opposite...
And all the 360 fanboys will be in here defending it. Seriously, realize what you're saying. Halo IS an annual release franchise, even if many of the games- such as Wars and ODST- were not part of the primary story. The keyword is "franchise." That being said, I don't think that's something to worry about.
you hate yourself? HA! What a fanboy.
Halo is not an annual release...ODST wasnt made by a big team and CEA was done by 2 third parties (Sabre and Certain Affinity)
People are just misinformed or ignorant these days. Example, people still believing that Bungie is making Halo games when in reality they will all be handled by 343 industries now. Also, people thinking Bungie is a mobile dev now because of Bungie Aerospace, when that is just there was of supporting indie devs financially. OFF TOPIC, but things that definitely get under my skin.
-Halo(yes, it is an annual release now) -Call of Duty -Need For Speed -Assassin's Creed -All Sports Games
Assassin's Creed? Really. Sure its exhausting buying one evry year, but with each iteration comes complete innovation over every game, compared to the other games.
Where's the complete innovation? I see abput 3 minor gameplay additions in comparison with (For Example) the tens of new gameplay mechanics and improvements to be found in the three years after its predecessor Gears of War 3...
