Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Review - MMGN.com

MMGN.com: Halo: Combat Evolved blasted onto the scene in early 2002 (late 2001 in North America), setting a benchmark for console shooters and competitive gaming. While this remake of a decade-old classic offers a fascinating look at the evolution of graphics over the past decade, Anniversary presents a rather aged first-person shooter. While its added multiplayer maps are certainly a bonus, this remake is nothing more than a visual treat for diehard fans of the original. That said, Anniversary's ode to a genre-defining classic propels it past many other HD remakes, and co-developer Saber Interactive has added a shot of life to a surprisingly dry and dire 2001 world. Halo: Combat Evolved is still a FPS masterpiece no matter how old it is, but it certainly falters when compared to contemporary refinements in the genre. (Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Xbox 360) 7.5/10

Is the gameplay really that dated? I dont see how it could be. Its no different from shooters coming out now.

Halo CE is my favourite in the whole series, I think hes being a bit harsh, but he has a point about the copy and paste level design, that was always the biggest drawback. Too many levels like The Library and not enough like The Silent Cartographer.

the gameplay is still awesome. They're probably having a bitch because there is no iron sight, no seeing your legs flip to your side when you jump over a wall and no blood splatter on the screen when you get shot.

"nothing more than a visual treat for diehard fans of the original"

That is such BULL! The story if you have never played is better than most games out there. There has to be millions that have not played the original halo and this is a great time to see where it all started.

The gameplay is still awesome and the music and everything just makes for a great game

areed. I've just opened up my first terminal, and it opened up a whole cut scene with...Oh i dont want to spoil, but it was awesome and unexpected. I love how 343 are adding gap fillers to the remake. Honestly i'm f***ing loving it.

really? awsome i thought the terminals were suppose to reveal clues about halo 4 or did i reread wrong?
SixZeroFour  +   1109d ago
@sockeyboy - i kinda doubt you can spoil the first terminal (except for the ppl that "go dark") cause even 343 and waypoint showed the first terminal in a vid

@darkblood - not all terminals are about halo 4, but 343i did say that some will reveal clues about halo 4's story
SockeyBoy  +   1109d ago
I didn't know 343 had shown terminal footage, thats awesome, didn't want to spoil it for anyone anywho. 343i needs to do Halo 2 now. If anyone wants to play online co-op please inbox me.
