The 10 best Skyrim mods so far

PC Gamer: As good as Bethesda games are, they’re always a little bit better once they’re modded. Amazingly, despite the fact that the game has only been out for a few days, there are already over a hundred mods on Skyrim Nexus. We’ve rounded up the best of the first wave – they’re not game-changers, but some of these are worth taking a look at.

Glad to see the modding community is so active already.

The no spider mod looks great i hate those things.

SilentNegotiator2288d ago

Now for a mod that makes the dragons into informant chickens. lol

That picture reminds me of that old "Badger, badger, badger..." flash video.

LOL I don't understand the hate for spiders. I love them. I kill them one hit with my bow, not even in stealth. Funny how they try to poison me and I smash them against the next wall.

Anyway... holy freaking GOD look at these screenshots.
Gotta try this out at once. Although I am not sure my PC will be able to do this. xD

Are those pics of some mod or something cause that looks like the pc version of the game.

Can't someone tell me if these mods will affect overall game performance? I want to mod but also want to keep a smooth gameplay. Thanks.

I don't hate spiders because of fighting them, they're easy. But I'm a severe arachnophobic and it gives me the chills every time I fight them...It is fun though to watch them burn with fireball

@1.2.1 nycredude:
Those screens are modded, the RAM is expanded (usually Skyrim only uses 2 GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have). You can then tweak it to load more bigger background environments, more details in there, etc. So it will eventually look like those screens. Of course, without a good PC, you can't do it.
Not all mods effect performance though. Night-Sky simply replaces the image for the night sky, and effects the performance 0%.

@1.2.2 Jio:
OOOOH arachnophobia, I TOTALLY didn't think about that. Thank you for clearing that up. I can honestly understand the need for that mod now. ^^

slayorofgods2288d ago (Edited 2288d ago ) has crashed several times because the servers are overloaded due to so much traffic.

There is a lot of mod support for this game already!

edit. According to this site the nude patch is well in the top 10..... I'm just saying, your not going to find that info in a article.

frostypants2288d ago (Edited 2288d ago )

THIS is the kinda thing that makes PC gaming worthwhile And I say that as a person who bought the PS3 version of this particular title. I can definitely see myself downloading the PC version in the future during a Steam sale though, once the modding is going full bore...

The modding kit hasn't even been released yet, has it? But I guess that doesn't stop the modders from modifying some game files.

Johnny_Cojones2289d ago

I installed the improved night sky, tree textures, better faces, and enabled more than 2GB RAM. I also edited the .ini file. I can tell a huge difference. On a nice PC, at a high resolution, this is a beautiful game. It's only going to get better.

Is the 2gb desk space? I saw something out there ....but wanted to let others test it out.

I installed the ps3 button map mod for my PS3 controllbutton motion joy configuration. (Works great!)

Also installed the 'rounder faces' mod.

Enjoying Skyrim so much..... I had to force myself to bed at 3:30 in the AM.

Johnny_Cojones2289d ago

It's RAM usage. The game limits itself to 2GB of RAM usage, apparently. The method detailed up there apparently removes that limitation. I have 8GB of 1866MHz DDR3, so I'm glad it's getting a bit more use than it typically does.

3:30am? PAH!
I was up till 7am and had lectures at 9am! :P

swice2289d ago

I wonder what Bethesda thinks of the work these people have done...

Miths2289d ago

Considering the mods for their games number in the thousands for each - as will no doubt also be the case with Skyrim in perhaps mere months - I sort of doubt Bethesda take their time to think about individual mods, except perhaps for the most impressive, which obviously tends to be those that are huge in scope in terms of what that add to or change in the base game.

Miths2289d ago

Anyone else unable to visit Skyrim Nexus? I guess their servers are likely to be severely overloaded at the moment :).

dc12289d ago

Yep. Their getting crushed. There is a note about the server load on the front page.
