The 10 best Skyrim mods so far

PC Gamer: As good as Bethesda games are, they’re always a little bit better once they’re modded. Amazingly, despite the fact that the game has only been out for a few days, there are already over a hundred mods on Skyrim Nexus. We’ve rounded up the best of the first wave – they’re not game-changers, but some of these are worth taking a look at. (PC, PS3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Xbox 360)

Glad to see the modding community is so active already.

The no spider mod looks great i hate those things.
SilentNegotiator  +   1546d ago
Now for a mod that makes the dragons into informant chickens. lol

That picture reminds me of that old "Badger, badger, badger..." flash video.
Coffin87  +   1546d ago
LOL I don't understand the hate for spiders. I love them. I kill them one hit with my bow, not even in stealth. Funny how they try to poison me and I smash them against the next wall.

Anyway... holy freaking GOD look at these screenshots.
Gotta try this out at once. Although I am not sure my PC will be able to do this. xD

Are those pics of some mod or something cause that looks like the pc version of the game.

Can't someone tell me if these mods will affect overall game performance? I want to mod but also want to keep a smooth gameplay. Thanks.

I don't hate spiders because of fighting them, they're easy. But I'm a severe arachnophobic and it gives me the chills every time I fight them...It is fun though to watch them burn with fireball

@1.2.1 nycredude:
Those screens are modded, the RAM is expanded (usually Skyrim only uses 2 GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have). You can then tweak it to load more bigger background environments, more details in there, etc. So it will eventually look like those screens. Of course, without a good PC, you can't do it.
Not all mods effect performance though. Night-Sky simply replaces the image for the night sky, and effects the performance 0%.

@1.2.2 Jio:
OOOOH arachnophobia, I TOTALLY didn't think about that. Thank you for clearing that up. I can honestly understand the need for that mod now. ^^
slayorofgods  +   1546d ago has crashed several times because the servers are overloaded due to so much traffic.

There is a lot of mod support for this game already!

edit. According to this site the nude patch is well in the top 10..... I'm just saying, your not going to find that info in a article.

THIS is the kinda thing that makes PC gaming worthwhile And I say that as a person who bought the PS3 version of this particular title. I can definitely see myself downloading the PC version in the future during a Steam sale though, once the modding is going full bore...

The modding kit hasn't even been released yet, has it? But I guess that doesn't stop the modders from modifying some game files.
Johnny_Cojones  +   1547d ago
I installed the improved night sky, tree textures, better faces, and enabled more than 2GB RAM. I also edited the .ini file. I can tell a huge difference. On a nice PC, at a high resolution, this is a beautiful game. It's only going to get better.

Is the 2gb desk space? I saw something out there ....but wanted to let others test it out.

I installed the ps3 button map mod for my PS3 controllbutton motion joy configuration. (Works great!)

Also installed the 'rounder faces' mod.

Enjoying Skyrim so much..... I had to force myself to bed at 3:30 in the AM.

It's RAM usage. The game limits itself to 2GB of RAM usage, apparently. The method detailed up there apparently removes that limitation. I have 8GB of 1866MHz DDR3, so I'm glad it's getting a bit more use than it typically does.

3:30am? PAH!
I was up till 7am and had lectures at 9am! :P

I wonder what Bethesda thinks of the work these people have done...
Miths  +   1547d ago
Considering the mods for their games number in the thousands for each - as will no doubt also be the case with Skyrim in perhaps mere months - I sort of doubt Bethesda take their time to think about individual mods, except perhaps for the most impressive, which obviously tends to be those that are huge in scope in terms of what that add to or change in the base game.
Miths  +   1547d ago
Anyone else unable to visit Skyrim Nexus? I guess their servers are likely to be severely overloaded at the moment :).
dc1  +   1547d ago
Yep. Their getting crushed. There is a note about the server load on the front page.

Im glad im not the only one who has a hate for spiders in the game.

Im an arachnophopic and i have a small panic attack whenever i see one. Having one fall from the ceiling of a dungon in Skyrim does not help. I just wish that Bethesda add an option at some point to remove them from the console version before its to late.

I feel your pain. I dislike rats immensely and Bethesda loves putting giant Skeevers in their games. Talk about skeeving me out!
frostypants  +   1546d ago
I am arachnophobic, but I have the opposite reaction...I am far more aggressive with spiders than other enemies in the game. They must die! They ALL must die!
R_A_LEE20  +   1547d ago
It would have also been better if they had not added them in the game altogether. I dont recall giant spiders being in Oblivion.

The spiders remind me of a level in Dark Messiah where the enemies are just spiders.. still are having nightmares.

Do I need to play the past game to enjoy this one? I really have not followed this game but seeing all the great reviews I am thinking about picking it up (pc). Is it single player only and server based maps? Or do you the maps sit on the hard drive and I download the new maps that are mods?
Rowland  +   1547d ago
no, but play Oblivion first anyway - it's brilliant !
DudeJets  +   1546d ago
No and tbh oblivion was absoloute trash. It was very hard to get into and personally id rather play kinect all day.

However skyrim grabs you very very quickly and the story seems alot stronger.

Its a normal 1player game install and enjoy.

If you are new to the series go ahead and start with Skyrim. It is the best at the moment, and the one you will most likely get into.

Morrowind, is a really good game.... But the graphics are out dated, you can mod them but not to the degree you get in Skyrim. Morrowind is one of the best games for people really into the series, but not one I'd recommend to start with at this stage.

Oblivion, was a big graphical improvement. But, a lot of people will tell you Morrowind is the better game.

Skyrim, has the graphics and gameplay. I'd say it's the best in the series, but I'm not through it yet. You won't find a better experience.

Going to get faces, blood, ram, trees, stars, and spider mod tonight i think.

Then on my evil save i will destroy everything......
capcock  +   1546d ago
This is just one out of many reasons why I prefer to game on PC :)
veChuy  +   1546d ago
There will be a patch for the physics of the game? cause right now is not fun I can go to the top of a mountain just pressing W and jumping thats not cool for a AAA game.
Canary  +   1546d ago
Where's the mod to add in all of those textures Bethesda "forgot" to put in the game? Western Skyrim looks awful.
