How To Upgrade Your PS3 Hard Drive

Kotaku writes, "One of the neatest features of the Playstation 3, in my book, is that you can swap out the hard drive it comes with yourself using an off-the-shelf hard drive. Sure it may be pretty self-explanatory to some, but not everyone knows how to upgrade the hard drive on their Playstation 3. Fortunately, Seagate was kind enough to send me a little how to guide and kit. The guide walks you through the relatively painless process for upgrading your 40GB or 80GB hard drive to something roomier, like say a 160GB drive."

The story is too old to be commented.

no it does not void the warrenty.
says right in the ps3 manual swaping hard drives does not void warranty.

Well this is certainly handy. I haven't needed more space yet still have around 26 gigs. Also beats having to get taxed up the rear for a larger storage, and a heck of a lot better than the one console that doesn't seem to want to support extra storage space... who will remain nameless but it starts with N. (shakes fist in air)

if you've got a large external drive why would you want to change the internal one, you can save all you stuff on the external drive??

Can you play download games and videos off of an external hard drive.

That would make the PS3 slower to boot up and slower every time it access the HDD. If you got 60GB and up right now then you don't need this space yet. If you got a 20GB like me or a 40GB then you may think about going 120GB. I have the 120GB and it works fine.

im not sure, but if you can play games of external drive i would rather go that route than fiddling about with the internal harddrive (i know i would break something if i started opening up my ps3 lol)
