Sony only revealed percentages, Nintendo has released hard numbers

While Sony only revealed percentages, Nintendo has released hard numbers for console sales for the week including Black Friday, showing 350,000 consoles moved during the seven-day period. Outside of the system's launch week, this figure marks the highest one-week sales since the Wii's debut.

Many consumers were unable to find Wii consoles in stores, including Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, who told AP he had been scouting for the console at retailers to gauge its availability. The president said the low supply of Wii consoles is unfortunate and certainly not intentional.

"A shortage benefits no one," he said. "We're disappointed. This was all about how we didn't accurately estimate demand. We need to be more bullish about the potential for the Wii."

Nintendo's portable also fared well, selling 653,000 units during the week of Thanksgiving. The figure doesn't break any records for weekly DS sales

How in the hell can a console sell 653,000 units in one week. I'll never know. But good for Nintendo. Good numbers also for wii.

The Wii would sell more if it were well-stocked.

ohhh well, there goes the video game industry as we know it. :-(

i predict a future full of half a$$ed mini games and crap for years to come. and i hope third parties won't abandon both the 360 and the ps3 for a quick cash in on the so called fad that will end up being the best sold home console in history.

on the other hand. these sales are phenomenal, they should check Nintendo for steroids immediately. usually November is a 5 week month sales in NPD so expect the wii to top the million and the ds to top the billion in sales.

i just can't imagine what December sales will be like.

what the hell is going on, have they druged these people, why on earth is the wii selling this well.

oh well nintendo are rolling in it

Mr Marbles3954d ago

plus non gamers are buying it, that means EVERYONE but us LOL, think about it, of the 300 million people in the country, the Wii is not limited to just the gaming community, all those people are potential customers. I know tons of people who would not even consider an xbox or playstation, but they might try out a Wii. Dont feel bad guys, it is just a fad like the rubix cube, it will pass, then the real consoles will rule.

A year later and still there is shortages. Brilliant marketing I say. Creating false demand by not producing enough. Everyone talks about the PS3 not having any good titles. What does the Wii have? Three maybe four...I call major major. B.S.

Mr Marbles3953d ago

the wii is a joke and always has been, PS3 has far more games then that tard box. Yet no one dares call Nintendo on it.

killer_trap3953d ago

the wii has lots of games. just not really good ones. and after mario galaxy, well there isn't much to look forward to.

wiizy3953d ago

thank you finally someone admit that sony and their fanboys are full of oh yeah sony does uh..did you mean the disappointed lair or maybe the great heavenly sword...haha.. nintendo will have the best games coming bottom line....wii laughing straight to the bank..hahhahahha

I don't get why you keep comparing toy sales to gaming console sales.

"nintendo will have the best games coming bottom line"

ahahahah. I have a really long day full of classes + labs today, but you have made my day.
