Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's Job At Risk?

The news that Nintendo will lose money this fiscal year for the first time in its history as a publicly traded company wasn't entirely unexpected, but that didn't make it any less shocking. It was a rapid fall from the top of the gaming hill for the company, hastened by weak sales of the Wii and DS and the tepid reception to the 3DS. Investors weren't happy, raising some questions about whether president Satoru Iwata's job might be at risk.

Iwata is the reason why Nintendo's online sucks. I'd trade Reggie for Iwata any day.

Reggie is the reason why we haven't gotten Xenoblade,The last story etc in the state side so i say keep Iwata and fire Reggie.

Yeah but Majin-vegeta you have to think Iwata is the reason why we have all this casual crap going on now and why the company is relying on gimmicks to keep them at number 1 instead of that good old Nintendo magic which made past consoles like the NES, SNES, N64 and even the Gamecube (I know....but I loved it) so great.

If he didn't exsist them maybe those games would of came out from the start when they were supposed to instead of Reggie stopping them.....he wouldn't have a reason to stop them if they came out when they were supposed to, you really just need to look back at what started the chain of events off that lead to those games being held back in the first place and since this casual approach is more importent then letting these amazing core games come out (because there afraid to loose more money instead of what customers want)...then Iwata is the problem.

@ White I see but still it would be nice to see those come here.

@ WhiteLightning. It's not due to lack of Wii software sales that's got Nintendo in trouble though. Wii sales are slowing, but it was the DS that buttered Nintendo's bread, just like it was the Gameboy Advance that made them the bulk of their money before. A changing handheld industry and touch foreign exchange rates are to blame. The 3DS might do well in the long run, but right now it's not in any position to replace lost DS revenue.

@ Jacksonmichael

Truer words haven't been spoken.Reggie is the reason behind all this casual nonsense, and the reason why Nintendo is struggling to keep it's good name.I personally hate his patronizing tone aswell, though that might just be me.Iwata may be behind the online debacle, but atleast he's willing to take some help from third-party companies and rectify the issue.

In business, there are always up and down phases. Not every new product is guaranteed to be a big profit maker immediately. But the investors don't want to deal with. It's all about more profit every quarter and year. Any drop is bad. Also, Nintendo did so well when they introduced Wii. And of course, when you are up there, you must stay up there or you are considered doing poorly.

That's the real problem, investors only care about how much the Nintendo profits them today. Whatever success Nintendo did in the past has no meaning.

They are in it for the money, where is the surprise, if your leadership is currently screwing up or performing poorly they need to do better or else someone else will take over.

Happens all the time in the corporate world. The fact that iwata still has his job proves your last statement false.
